Background of the issue:
I am working on a site under development and trying to manage translations using WPML. Over the years, I have found the 'Translate independently' feature to be unnecessary. The goal of duplicating a page in another language is to translate it, not to keep the same content.

Symptoms:
When I duplicate a page and translate it, I receive an alert box telling me to translate the page independently, which results in losing all my modifications.

Questions:
How can I disable the 'Translate independently' feature by default in WPML?

Thank you for contacting WPML support.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to disable or partially disable the duplication feature in WPML. However, you can display untranslated content by showing the original text when translations are unavailable if that is the reason you are duplicating it first. Whenever you need to translate content, you just translate it without duplicating it.

For more information on how to use fallback untranslated content to the default language, please visit: https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/displaying-untranslated-content-on-pages-in-secondary-languages/#fallback-content
