This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is attempting to translate their site using WPML and wants to export an XLIFF file of the translated content for review by a professional translator. After translating the homepage and exporting the XLIFF file, the translator returned the file with modifications. However, upon importing the updated XLIFF file back into WPML, the changes are not visible, despite following the steps in the documentation and receiving a successful import message.

Solution:
We recommend a simpler method for allowing translators to review automatic translations directly on the site. To do this, the translator should be made a local WordPress user and assigned to review the automatic translation jobs. Detailed instructions on how to review automatic translations can be found in our documentation:

Hi,

we want to translate the site with WPML, but the client wants us to export an xliff of the translated site so it can be checked by a translator. So we translated the homepage using WPML, exported an xliff file and the translator sent us a translated xliff file back to test this (with TEST: in front of every changed sentence so we can easily see if the upload works). However, when I upload the xliff file (through WPML > Translations > XLIFF import/export), the changed text isn't visible.

Are you following this guide?

It is also important that you send it to the translator. If, by mistake, he changes anything other than the translation, then the imported XLIFF file might not work. Please also see the following article.

You must also pay close attention to the following, which might be related to the problem. The debug info you attached shows that your server WP Memory Limit is 40M. Our recommendations are to have the following as minimal requirements:

- PHP 7 and above (this OK with your installation) with a WP Memory Limit of at least 128MB while 256MB is recommended.

MySQL 5.6 and above.

Is it possible for you to change those to the minimum requirement?

You may need to contact your hosting provider for that. Meeting those baseline requirements is most critical before debugging and sometimes solves issues you experience. The most important thing is to raise the WP Memory Limit. Please try to raise it before you contact your hosting company. You can do it from the wp-config.php file in your WordPress installation. Insert this code in that file:

/** Memory Limit */
define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M');
define( 'WP_MAX_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M' );

Add it before this line:

/* That's all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */

Could you please perform that procedure and see if it helps?

Hi,

I upgraded the memory limit to 256M.
I get no error when importing (only green box with succesfull import message).
I follow the steps in https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/using-desktop-cat-tools/configuring-xliff-file-options/

Still, the update isn't visible 🙁

FYI: what we want to achieve is to automatically translate the content and then let a professional translator check our translation. So I translated the test page, exported an xliff file and sent it to the translator to check and make changes. But uploading this checked file isn't working. Or is there an easier way to let them work on this?

Hi,

Yes, there is a much easier way for you to let the translator review your automatic translation jobs. You need to make the translator a local WordPress user and assign him/her to review your automatic translation jobs. Please read about it here.
