I found out that the wrong translations were caused by the string translation. Automatic string translation was turned on and it identified Elementor widgets and ACF post types and taxonomies as strings without translation in German and translated it. What I don't understand is: Those strings had content in German but WPML identified this content to be English language and tried to translate it again. Another point is, why did it try to translate anyways because my source language is German and it's not supposed to do anything with that language automatically... Please advise how to work with automatic string translation in a right way. Thank you |

Hi Florian, Welcome to the WPML support forum. Before passing this thread to my colleague, I would like to share some suggestions and possible solutions for the issues you mentioned. Sorry for the late response because of the holidays and the high support load. It is not normal here. Thank you for your kind understanding. We can change the source language of a string or a string domain from WPML>>String Translation. But as per the following screenshot, you are trying to use an Elementor widget for adding the text content to a post. Normally, it will be translated using the WPML Translation Editor. https://wpml.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/16894996-Screenshot%202025-04-04%20at%2008.47.06.png So please check it and let us know your feedback: https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/ -- Bigul |

Hi Bigul, Thank you for your answer. Yes I was also wondering why the strings were detected automatically because normally the WPML Translation Editor should be used for this. That's exactly my question. Why? Thank you |

Hi, this is known. You can find a workaround here: https://wpml.org/errata/elementor-strings-registered-as-a-widget-strings-in-wpml-string-translation/. Best Regards, |
