This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is experiencing issues with automatic string translation in WPML, where the translation process is stuck, showing only the cog symbol. Despite attempts to delete the automatic translation jobs in troubleshooting, they are not being successfully removed.
Solution:
We recommend trying the beta versions of WPML, which include changes to the string translation process. These beta versions can be tested on a staging site or a separate copy of the site to avoid affecting current work. You can download the beta packages from https://wpml.org/account/downloads/.

If this solution does not resolve your issue or seems irrelevant due to updates or differences in your case, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If problems persist, please open a new support ticket at WPML support forum for further assistance.

Background of the issue:
I am working on a site under development and trying to add several strings to the automatic strings translation in WPML.

Symptoms:
The automatic string translation is stuck, showing only the cog symbol. I deleted the automatic translation jobs in troubleshooting, but they are not deleted.

Questions:
What can I do to ensure the automatic string translation works reliably?
How can I delete the automatic translation jobs successfully?

Hi,

Thank you for contacting the support. Meanwhile this ticket is attended by one of my colleagues, please go to WPML -> Support -> Troubleshooting and click "Cancel in-progress automatic jobs", to cancel and delete currently automatic jobs.

Then please try sending again a smaller batch with a few strings and see if it still runs into the same error.

Please let us know and we'll try our best to help you further on the matter.

Additionally I 'll request for the debug information of your website for an overview of your setup. See https://wpml.org/faq/provide-debug-information-faster-support/ for more information.

I've enabled the debug information section for your next reply.

Additionally you can also take a look at https://wpml.org/faq/checklist-before-opening-a-ticket-in-wpml-support/ and cross-check for a few initial fixes.

See https://wpml.org/purchase/support-policy/privacy-and-security-when-providing-debug-information-for-support/ for details on privacy and security.

Regards.

Hi,
Thanks, ok, I cancelled the automatic translation jobs, and had still the cog in some languages at a test string. I deleted it and then added it new with autoregister, and try it again. This time it works.
But this is unfortunately not the only case, from time to time it stucks.
Can something be improved, so that I don't have to care for this and only add the strings an set it to automatic translation and it works reliable?
Thanks, kind regards
Eric

Hello Eric 🙂

We will be changing the way we translate strings in the upcoming releases so there is no need to perform the steps as of now.

If you have a staging site you can try those beta and see it in action, you can download those packages from here: https://wpml.org/account/downloads/

Let me know it if this helps.

Thanks

Hi,
OK, good to hear.
I am working on a developing site, should I use the new beta already or should I wait? I don't want to disturb my running system. Then I only could see the new version one in a separate staging as a preview.
Thanks, kind regards
Eric

Hello there,

You can try the beta versions by create a different copy of a site or after a backup. I would suggest a different copy as it will not your current work.

Look forward to your reply.

Thanks
