Problem:
The client is experiencing an issue where changes made to content in one language are incorrectly reflecting in another language, despite using Elementor and WPML. This synchronization error prevents maintaining distinct content for different languages.
Solution:
1. Ensure that all WPML plugins are updated to the latest version. Instructions for updating can be found here: http://wpml.org/faq/install-wpml/
2. After updating, apply the workaround described on the WPML errata page: https://wpml.org/errata/wordpress-6-7-mo-files-not-loaded-and-leading-to-missing-translations-on-front-end/
3. Edit the content in the original language and use the 'WordPress Editor' to ensure changes only apply to the intended language. This can be done by selecting the scope of the changes to apply only to that particular post or page.
4. Make a small change in the original language, save these changes, and then update the translation.

Background of the issue:

When I make adjustments to one language, the changes are also reflected in the other language, reverting to the same content as the first.

Please update your WPML plugin and add-ons to the latest version, 4.6.14, to benefit from the latest bug fixes and improvements. This may not necessarily resolve your problem; however, we need to work on the newest code available to troubleshoot the issue best.

You can check the latest released versions under "My Account -> Downloads" on this site. Instructions to update can be found here: http://wpml.org/faq/install-wpml/

If you do not see the updates, you might need to click the Check for updates button in the Plugins → Add New Plugin → Commercial tab.

Remember to backup your database before you proceed.

If this is still the problem, please upload any relevant screenshots that would help illustrate the problem.

1.- If you updated the WPML plugins to the latest version I kindly ask you to apply the workaround described in this errata page too: https://wpml.org/errata/wordpress-6-7-mo-files-not-loaded-and-leading-to-missing-translations-on-front-end/

2.- Regarding the issue described in your first message. Please edit in the original language one of the contents (post, pages) where the issue appears -> Go to the right column -> Language block -> Activate 'WordPress Editor' -> In the popup window select the scope of the changes (I recommend to apply the changes only for that particular post/page) -> Save the changes
- Then make a small change to the content in the original language -> Save the changes and update the translation

Does the issue disappear?

Dear,

We are using Elementor, so I don't think this is a solution. Since when we go via WordPress Editor -> add translation, the editor is blank.

Could provide an example of "distinct content for different languages" so I can double-check if the solution I described is the correct one?

Dear Carlos,

Thank you for your response and assistance so far.

To clarify the issue with an example:

In the original Dutch content, we have a title like “Fijne Boontjes met Ui en Spek”. WPML auto-translates this into French, but the result is incorrect. We manually edit the French translation to reflect the correct meaning. However, when we later make changes to the Dutch version—such as updating other parts of the content—the French translation reverts to the original auto-translated version, overwriting our manual corrections.

Our goal is to:
1. Create the content in Dutch.
2. Use WPML’s auto-translate feature for the initial French translation.
3. Manually adjust the French translation where necessary.
4. Prevent any future updates in the Dutch version from overwriting the manually corrected French content, so both languages remain independently editable.

Currently, the synchronization between the two languages causes the changes to reset, making it difficult to maintain distinct, accurate translations.

Given that we are using Elementor, switching to the WordPress Editor is not feasible, as the content does not display in that editor.

Could you please guide us on how to configure WPML to achieve this behavior? Alternatively, is there another recommended workflow for maintaining independent translations when using Elementor?

Important note: The WordPress Editor is the same interface you see when editing the content in the original language. So you will be able to edit it with Elementor 🙂

The trick is to:

1) Create Page
2) Create Translations
3) Perform the switch
4) Seperated pages.

Could this be better documented somewhere because this is totally not clear.
