This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: You are experiencing issues with mixed languages and incorrect link redirections on your multilingual site using WPML. Changes made in the main language (Danish) are incorrectly reflected in the English and Spanish versions, causing a mix-up of languages and links on the front page. Solution: We recommend deactivating and then reactivating all your plugins to reset any potential cache issues that might be causing the language mix-up. This approach has resolved similar issues for other clients. If this does not solve the problem, it might be related to a server-side cron job that is rewriting the links and content. In this case, contact your hosting provider to request the activity log to further investigate the issue.
Please note that this solution might be outdated or not applicable to your specific case. We highly recommend checking the related known issues, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the issue persists, please open a new support ticket.
This is the technical support forum for WPML - the multilingual WordPress plugin.
Everyone can read, but only WPML clients can post here. WPML team is replying on the forum 6 days per week, 22 hours per day.
Background of the issue:
I am trying to edit my front page individually in each language using WPML, as they are different. I have created a support ticket and followed the guidelines from the supporter: https://wpml.org/forums/topic/wmpl-automatically-translate-a-layout-part-it-shouldnt/. My main language is Danish, and I have translated versions in English and Spanish. The issue can be seen at: hidden link
Symptoms:
I expected the translated sites to be in their respective languages, but there is a mix of Danish and English/Spanish on the front page. All links are changed to Danish. Every time I change something on the Danish page, WPML changes the front page to Spanish and English, mixing Danish and translated headings. All links to my versions in both Spanish and English are changed to the Danish links.
Questions:
Can you help me with a solution so I don't get this mess of mixed languages and links pointing to wrong versions?
Hi, I deactivated all plugins and the visualization issue in the front end disappeared.
I did a test and it seems the links are not changed if you edit the Danish homepage. Can you try it as well to confirm? You can use the same credentials.
Thanks for your reply. I have tested, and if you look at the version in ES, the links still points to the Danish versions in the layout part with the headline "Storbyguider" which also still are in Danish and not Spanish.
So there are still mix of DA and ES on the front page.
Hi Hanne, please understand I'm managing multiple tickets so there might be a few hours between replies.
What did you do exactly?
On the Spanish homepage, I just changed the link to hidden link to hidden link and saved.
Then I edited the Danish homepage, and I can still see the same link on the Spanish page.
I am so sorry - I understand. Got a bit unpatient - sorry for that.
I understand, what you did, but the issue is not, that the language change on the post. They remain translated in the posts.
The issue is, that the links that points to the post on the front page in ES like this in the layout part "Storbyguider" with the headline like
"10 experiencias sostenibles en Madrid"
points to the danish version and not the spanish hidden link
The same goes for all the other images with links under the same headline in ES.
So every time I translate and points the links to the translated posts, WMPL changes the links on the front page so the direct to the posts in Danish version.
So the issue appears on the links on the front page in both ES and EN as well as the headlines changes from the translated to DA.
I have attached a screen shot so you can see the layout part I am talking about
I don't see any screenshot (notice you can't upload images bugger that 1M) however I still doesn't see the issue.
I didn't change *all* the links in the Spanish page since this is just for testing, but the ones I changed under the Storbyguider section do not change.
Please check hidden link">this video. If you do something different, let me know.
I'm not sure what the issue is on your site. I reactivate all the plugins (if you noticed, I disabled everything except WPML) and the issue is still not there.
You can try the same (deactivate and reactivate) to see if it was some kind of cache that reset on reactivation.
However, if it doesn't work the only thing I can think of is that there's some kind of cronjob on the server causing the rewriting. You'd need to ask the hosting for the activity log.
