This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
You are experiencing an issue where the English version of the 'portfolio' section on your WordPress site automatically redirects to the Italian version, and these pages are not accessible.
Solution:
We recommend checking the translation settings for the 'portfolio' slug in WPML > Settings. It appears that the 'portfolio' slug was not translated, which is necessary as you cannot use the same slug in both languages. If you find that the slug is indeed not translated, please proceed to translate it to ensure that each language version of your site uses a unique slug.

Guide: https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/translating-page-slugs/

If this solution does not resolve your issue or seems outdated, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the problem persists, please do not hesitate to open a new support ticket with us for further assistance.

Background of the issue:
I am trying to resolve an issue where a section of translated pages on my site is no longer visible. The site uses WordPress 6.6.2, Impeka 2.0.4 theme, WPML 4.6.13, Elementor Pro 3.25.2, and Yoast 23.8. The original language is Italian, and all pages are translated into English. The issue is specific to the 'portfolio' section.

Symptoms:
The English version of the 'portfolio' section pages is no longer reachable and automatically redirects to the Italian version. This issue occurs only for this section, and the pages are not accessible even in editing through Elementor.

The pages in question are:

Questions:
Why are the English pages in the 'portfolio' section redirecting to the Italian version?
How can I make the English 'portfolio' pages visible again?

Hello,

Please go to go to WPML > Settings > Post Type Translation and verify that the "Portfolio" type is set to "Translatable".

Also, please verify if the translated portfolios have been saved as "draft".

If this will not clarify the cause of the issue, please let me know.

Best regards
Andreas

Hello,
In "settings" porfolio items, categories and fields resulted locked. They seemed already "translatable" but in doubt I clicked on the padlock icon and then saved. (attached: screen 01 shows initial status, screens 02 and 03 show the final status)

I also scanned the translated links for a further check (screen 04).

Portfolio items (pages) result all published (and so they are from a long time).

Thx in advance for a deeper investigation.
Tommaso.

Hello,

I would like to offer to have a closer look at the problem and request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to the website to investigate this issue further.

You can find the required fields below the comment section when you log in to leave the next reply. The information you provide is private, which means only you and I can see and access it.

IMPORTANT
Please be sure to make a backup copy of the website and database before allowing us access.
If you can't see the wp-admin / FTP fields, your post and website credentials are set as PUBLIC. DO NOT publish the data unless you see the required wp-admin / FTP fields.

I may have to install a plugin called "All In One WP Migration" to make a copy of the website where I can investigate the issue further.

However, I would also be very grateful if you could provide a staging site or copy of the website from your server yourself for this purpose. This step would only be required if the issue is replicable on such a staging site.

If you have any questions about creating such a staging site, you can consult your hosting provider. Just take note that WPML should be registered on this site again.

If you are unable to provide such a copy of the site for testing, please let me know on this ticket.

The private response form looks like this:

Next time you reply, click "I still need assistance."

Please note that we are obliged to request this information individually on each ticket. We may not access any access information not specifically submitted on this ticket in the private response form.

Best regards
Andreas

The "portfolio" slug was not translated in WPML > Settings.

Further, you can sadly not use the same slug in both languages.

Thx Andreas, all seems to work correctly now!

Good to know the slugs need to be different, i thought the "insertion" of /en/ in the address was enough. Probably something changed as it was working in the last year in that way.

Anyway happy the problem was solved!
Thx again for your support!
