My wordpress is Multisite install and on the main site, I set the permalink as %postname%
Please confirm that WPML will be running well on my website.
Thanks,
Hi Nam,
WPML works with WP Multisite installs as well. In case you are not satisfied with our product, we have a refund policy: http://wpml.org/purchase/refunds-policy/
Hi, thanks for the answer.
What about %postname% matter? In the Minimum Requirements page, it says there are some problem with the site running %postname% permalink?
Hello. I’m ready to purchase WPML, but have a few questions:
1 – a developer told me to first install the Theme (which will probably be either Canvas or another WooTheme). Does the theme really need to be installed before WPML, or can I leave the theme for last? I would like to start getting all of my content entered into WP and decide about the theme later
2 – I looked at your WPML compatibility page and saw only a partial list of Woo Plugins. Does that mean that the others won’t work at all with WPML? For example their sliders and widgets?
I’m new to WP, WooCommerce and WPML, so I want to make sure I do all of this properly.
Thanks
Scott
Answering your questions:
1. No, there is no need to start with your theme first. You can also switch your theme later.
2. Most themes work with WPML without any problems. Usually you don’t need any extra actions to make your widtgets working in different languages. Yes, there might be some extra steps required to make your sliders work with WPML (I mean, to translate them). This is why we ask the theme author to provide so called wpml-config.xml file and then we include their theme in our list you mentioned. This way you will see all strings coming from your sliders in our WPML String Translation panel and you can add your translation easily. Some developers can create this config file themselves. But for some it is more tricky and this is why we cooperate with theme authors directly to provide this file and include it in their theme.
Thanks Agnes. I think I’m going to go ahead and purchase WPML and experiment with it for 30 days…. also so I can get help via your ticket system. This pre-sales area is a bit strange in that I don’t get an alert telling me you’ve replied to my question … not ideal! ;).
Referring to your answers:
1 – Ok, so WPML can be installed before the theme. And what about when using WooCommerce? Does it matter which order each component is installed?
2 – I plan to use the WooTheme “Canvas” and possible their “Uno” Child Theme. So, I’ll be using their plugins and widgets. Given that, do you know of any issues with WPML and any of these Woo products? For example, WooSlider?
Thanks
Scott
Hi Scott,
answering your questions:
1. No, the order (theme-plugin) is not import either but you will need more than a one plugin to handle WooCommerce Multilingual: http://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/woocommerce-multilingual/#1
2. Canvas theme is WPML fully compatible. If a theme is WPML compatible and uses a built-in slider it means that you will be able to translate all slider related string via a WPML String Translation panel.
Hello, I’m planning to buy WPML but have a few questions. I’m using avada theme, with header v1 selected. I’d like to have the lang selector on the rigth side of the menu, just next to search icon. I’ve checked some post about this in your forum but it seems complicated to put it in the desired location. Also modification is needed for mobile. Do you support this case?
Thank you,
Hi cem,
you can insert your language switcher in whatever place you want. Here you find the code needed and more info: http://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/#language_switcher
this requires dome development skills, at least to be familiar with the basis: which theme file to edit (usually it will be your header.php) and also you will need some CSS skills to style it.
This really isn’t a pre-sales question but when I paid for your software, it sent me a username instead of allowing me to choose my own. I use the same one ALL the time. I will likely have to search for this every time I want to login. PLEASE can I change my account username? You really should allow people to choose their own.
Hi Tony,
you cannot do this yourself. We will do this for you manually. Our admin will contact you directly this afternoon (using your email you submitted this comment with). Thanks for your patience.
Please explain what exactly do i need to install for my e-commerce site? Will WPML package will be enough or i will need to install additional plugin, like woocommerce? if yes, if they any additional cost to it?
Please explain as i am new and trying to figure it out.
hi, im intend to buy the
MOST POPULAR Multilingual CMS
The complete solution for multilingual websites with WordPress
79 usd.
i want to test. if i like, after 1 year, i can up to pro plan?
in this case, to up the plan, need to pay full value (195 usd) or only te difference between itens (116 usd)? the updates is ‘automatically’ by wordpress plugins panel?
tks, marcelo
Hi Marcelo,
if you buy Multilingual CMS ($79) at first, then you can update to lifetime during the first year for $116. You will see an appropriate link in your WPML account. Yes, updates are done automatically (you will see a special panel in your WordPress Dashboard) but it is you who triggers it.
Hi Ralph, yes, this is possible:
1. When you activate WPML please choose French when it asks you for your default language.
2. Then, please provide your English translations for your posts, pages etc.
3. When you are done with your translations go to WPML->Languages and change your default language to fr.
Hi,
It’s good to get reminder emails about renewing my subscription with a discount, but over 20 emails the last couple of days is really a bit too much. A bit Off The Go? What’s happening?
will you stop sending out automated – Renew your WPML subscription now and save 50% – spam emails – i have already received about 25 today. very annoying and unprofessional.
Hi Jignasha, thanks for your interest in WPML. WPML doesn’t translate your pages automatically. This is not recommended by Google either. It is you who translates the contents.
Hi Kevin,
once you have your WPML plugin downloaded or installed, you can use it forever. After a year, without a renewal you will not be able to ask questions in the support forum and upgrade to new versions.
Hi,
I’ve purchased WPML on December 18, 2013 but now you tell me that the account has expired. How is this possible?
It is not quite a year.
Thanks in advance.
I checked with my colleagues.
Mistakenly we made 2 purchases (one with email (edited) and one with email (edited)) and one of us has been repaid.
Ti is?
Please can you see my website http://aloevera-gel.net and specially the online shop which you can find under Home subcategory. It is a iframe . You think it will be also translated? In the online shop is google translator. It will be problem with? The plugin will translate also menu in navigation and all articles?
I am trying to support a non profit website that is developing an ecommerce portion to it. They currently have WPML 3.1.5, translation management 1.9.5, string translation 2.0.6, wpml media 2.1.5 and I believe everything associated with it, woocommerce 2.1.12, woo commerce multilingual 3.3.2.
They are experiencing a cart problem where the second language will not update the cart if something is added or taken away, and at times the cart shows nothing it at all if it is ordered. It works fine in English.
I have read on the support forums that is this is a common problem and is fixed in 3.18 version.
I have tried all of the suggested fixes. It just is not working.
I would like to save my time after hours of troubleshooting and fix the problem and just pay for the upgrade to wpml cms 3.18.
My question is just wanting to confirm that this version fixes the cart bug?
I would like to know what WPML does and how it will save me time?
(I have tried to view your demo but unfortunately I get a blank page in both Chrome and Firefox.)
Let me explain…
I have bought the Real Homes theme from Themeforest (and they have assured me that it’s fully compatible with WPML.)
I have now created a multisite wordpress installation with the main theme in English and then the other languages of German and Spanish as subfolders (/es & /de)
What I would like to know is how is WPML going to make my life easier?
Will I be able to create a page in English and then WPML will automatically create that page in the other languages as well?
(I mean the page and it’s settings only, I understand that the translation must be done manually.)
Will it also copy all the other page information across as well (for example the taxonomies etc.) without me having to do double work?
What are the advantages of using your plugin?
I already have .mo and .po files for Spanish, German, Dutch & Russian, how will this work in combination with WPML?
Does WPML do the basic theme translations (for example, the menu, widget headings etc.)?
What does it entail to setup a basic site in another language using WPML?
Somebody before commented about the potential %postname% issue but I see no reply.
Is there a problem running the %postname% permalink setting?
(This is part of my theme requirements.)
Hi Sara,
thanks for your interest in WPML and your questions. Let me answer them one by one.
I have now created a multisite wordpress installation with the main theme in English and then the other languages of German and Spanish as subfolders (/es & /de)
Did you do this to support different languages? If you plan to use WPML you don’t need WordPress Multilisite at all. WordPress Multilisite is an alternative solution to make your site multilingual. If you decide to choose WPML, you need a WordPress single installation and WPML will create subfolder for different languages for you.
What I would like to know is how is WPML going to make my life easier?
With WPML you will be able:
to create translation post/page with one click
you can copy the content from original to make your translation process easier
you can add your language switcher with on click to your sidebar or to your footer, you can also put in whatever place you want with some custom coding. The language switcher will move directly to your page equivalent in another language/li>
you can transalte all WordPress element with WPML, including menus, images, custom post types, taxonomies etc.
and much more
Will I be able to create a page in English and then WPML will automatically create that page in the other languages as well?
Yes, you will.
Will it also copy all the other page information across as well (for example the taxonomies etc.) without me having to do double work?
No, it won’t happen automatically but WPML support taxonomy translations.
What are the advantages of using your plugin?
Please see my list above.
I already have .mo and .po files for Spanish, German, Dutch & Russian, how will this work in combination with WPML?
You have two possibilities here:
you can use po/mo files and they will work automatically
you can translate all theme/plugin dependent string via WPML panel
You will find an appropriate option in your WPML settings to decide.
Does WPML do the basic theme translations (for example, the menu, widget headings etc.)?
Yes, it does.
What does it entail to setup a basic site in another language using WPML?
This is very simple, once you have your WPML plugin installed and activated it will ask you to choose the default site language and then to add more language. Please see the video on wpml.org home page.
Somebody before commented about the potential %postname% issue but I see no reply.
Is there a problem running the %postname% permalink setting?
The URL transaltions for post and pages work fine.
Thank you for the detailed reply, much appreciated.
I was wondering, if I already have a multisite setup with English, Spanish and German would I have to delete all that work before I uploaded the wpml plugin?
Or would the plugin somehow still connect the /es and /de sites?
Could I use/leave the exisiting po/mo files on the spanish & german sites, and then do string translations for the future sites I create?
Hi Sara, the directories created with WPML are implemented differently than the ones created with WordPress Multiliste and besides the translations are stored differently in database. But you can export your current post/page translation (I mean you can export post and pages) and then import them once you have WPML installed and configured. WPML will ask you about the language to assign. But then a manual work is needed to tell WPML which post is a translation to which one (you will find a connect option in the post edit screen).
I have a site built in 2 languages on 2 separate WordPress installs. Looking to take the 2 installs and using one WordPress install and your plugin for the translation.
Just so I understand, this plugin does not translate – but allows for the 2nd language in my case to be translated and inputted where? And how would a person who understands the 2nd language be able to understand how to see their native language. I am looking for a demo of your plugin.
Hi,
thanks for your interest in WPML.
Yes, you are right, the plugin doesn’t translate automatically. It is you who provides and inserts the translations.
Please see a demo in our video available at wpm.org site home.
We are also the authors of Toolset pugins. And some of our Toolset demo sites (which are available for free) use WPML.
Please go here: http://discover-wp.com/
and choose one of these:
Bootstrap Real Estate
Bootstrap Commerce
they use WPML. This way you will be able to see WPML in action.
Here you will see some sites done with WPML and submitted by our customers: http://wpml.org/showcase/
So your visitor will use a language switcher to witch between languages.
Hi, thanks for contacting us.
We can offer you 2 options:

Hi Lisa,
thanks for your interest in WPML and your questions.
Here’s a list of required plugins:
http://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/woocommerce-multilingual/#1
So you have to buy either Multilingual CMS license ($79) or Multilingual CMS Lifetime ($195). There are no additional costs.

Hi. Does WPML is compatible with Multisite Global Terms?
Hi Marco,
what exactly do you want to use this plugin for?
WPML can handle both tags, categories, custom post types and taxonomies.
Hi
I am thinking of purchasing WPML for the translation of my blog.
I have the below question:
My blog is currently in french under the domain http://www.cookingwithralph.com, after i install wpml, will i be able to have the english under http://www.cookingwithralph.com and the french under http://www.cookingwithralph.com/fr
Thanks
Hi Ralph, yes, this is possible:
1. When you activate WPML please choose French when it asks you for your default language.
2. Then, please provide your English translations for your posts, pages etc.
3. When you are done with your translations go to WPML->Languages and change your default language to fr.

Hi,
we will like to use wpml plugin but we need to confirm that if plugin support both manually translation and automatic translation of the content.
What i mean is content is translated automatic and also can edit manually.
Please Replay if plugin support this feature.
Hi Jignasha, thanks for your interest in WPML. WPML doesn’t translate your pages automatically. This is not recommended by Google either. It is you who translates the contents.
Hi, can you explain the account renewal? Do I have to renew the account each year to keep using the plugin or is that just to keep getting support?
Thanks,
Kevin
Hi Kevin,
once you have your WPML plugin downloaded or installed, you can use it forever. After a year, without a renewal you will not be able to ask questions in the support forum and upgrade to new versions.
Hi, I posted a question about the account renewal but now it’s gone. Is this the wrong place for that?
Just replied. It was waiting for moderation.
Sorry, I didn’t realize it was gone because of moderation.
One other question: So does the $29 version allow translation of text widgets or do I need to use the $79 version for that?
Thanks,
Kevin
To translate widgets you need $79 version. Or you can use the ‘Widget Logic’ plugin.
Can you please suggest the best e-commerce plugins.
Also, after installing WPML plug-in is there an additional cost to ecommerce plug-ins?
WooCommerce is one of the most populars e-commerce plugins for WordPress. Please go to this page:
http://trends.builtwith.com/shop/
and switch to ‘The entire internet’ on the right. You will see how popular WooCOmmerce is.
To make a Multililingual Site with WooCommerce and WPML you will need this set of plugins:
http://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/woocommerce-multilingual/#1
So, you need to buy $79 (or Lifetime) license, that’s all in terms of costs.
Hi, I need to purchase a second WPML license for a customer; how can I do it?
Regards
Fabio
Hi fabioC-6,
you can use one WPML license for all your customers. No need to purchase another one.
It’s awesome 🙂
Thank you Agnes.
Kind regards.
Hi,
I’ve purchased WPML on December 18, 2013 but now you tell me that the account has expired. How is this possible?
It is not quite a year.
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
we are about to check your case manually in our system. Of course it shouldn’t have expired yet.
Hi again,
our records show that there was a payment refunded to you. 2014-01-21 19:53:10 and the expire date says 2014-01-21.
This means that I have made the payment December 18, 2013 and had a refund January 21, 2014?
I checked with my colleagues.
Mistakenly we made 2 purchases (one with email (edited) and one with email (edited)) and one of us has been repaid.
Ti is?
Thanks for your update. So what is the status now? What would you like us to check now?
Can you tell me if the account with davide.todeschini@enet.it email is still active? Thanks!
You can solve this issue??
My company has paid off and it is not fair that I can not get updates!
Hi,
we will check your case manually in our system. Manual checking always takes time.
You can always try to recover your password using this link:
https://wpml.org/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
but first let us check the status for you.
We sent you an email directly.

Dear Stanislav,
it depends how your shop was implemented. What is done with a WordPress plugin? What’s the name of this plugin?
WPML works best with shops done with WooCommerce plugin.
Yes, with WPML you can translate menus and articles.
Hello,
I am trying to support a non profit website that is developing an ecommerce portion to it. They currently have WPML 3.1.5, translation management 1.9.5, string translation 2.0.6, wpml media 2.1.5 and I believe everything associated with it, woocommerce 2.1.12, woo commerce multilingual 3.3.2.

I have tried all of the suggested fixes. It just is not working.
I would like to save my time after hours of troubleshooting and fix the problem and just pay for the upgrade to wpml cms 3.18.
My question is just wanting to confirm that this version fixes the cart bug?
Thank you
Hi Bob, let me consult your question with our WooCommerce Multilingual developers and I will be back to you.
Hi again,
this should be fixed in WPML 3.1.8 that’s being released soon.

Somebody before commented about the potential %postname% issue but I see no reply.
