  1. Hi,

I’m building our own bilingual website and this plugin seems perfect.

My question: should I use WPML from the start, page by page, or should I create the French version first of the whole site, and then use WPML to add the English part?

    Thank you,
    Chantal

    • Hi, you can start with creating the French version and add WPML later. Generally speaking you can add WPML to your website anytime.

    • Hi, no it doesn’t. The goal of having a multilingual site is to attract organic traffic for the site. This can be achieved only with human made translations.
If you use WPML for your multilingual site, you have three options to translate your contents:

There are 3 ways to provide translations when you build a site with WPML:
      1. Do this manually – copy from the documents your customer has provided and paste translations directly into your WordPress. This is a simple process but a very time-consuming one.
      2. Send your content to your own translators via XLIFF files. WPML Translation Management module helps you here.
      3. Send your content to a professional translation. Completed translations appear automatically in your site. No manual work is needed. You pay extra for this.

  2. Hello,

i want to buy the wpml plugin for 79 dollar, however, i have one question.

At the bottom in the pricing table is the point “Account Extension annually for 39 dollar”. How can I understand the point? Can or do I have to pay the 29 dollar next year?

    Thanks in advance.

    Noel Linder

    • Hello,
yes, exactly. You can also upgrade your subscription to the CMS one and then to Lifetime (and pay the difference only in each case) and then you won’t have to pay each year.

  3. Hi there,

I have a website which I deliver in two languages, dutch and english, and would love to use this plugin to make it truely dual language, to make it easier to choose for my readers.
    Question,
is this plugin compatible with WP twenty eleven? Not the latest version, but the one before that.
Some plugins I use mess up my site, my woocommerce, lay out etc.,
    thanks so much,
    TIna

    • Hi Tina,
yes, you can use WPML to server your website in two languages. Yes, it should work smootly with the Twenty Eleven theme. Please note that WPML doesn’t translate your contents automatically, you provide the translations.

          • Hi Agnes, one ( two ) more question, as I already have a site ( dutch with most of the posts and pages translated and shared below the original post ) will the new language site be visible right away or can I work on setting it up and then opening it to be public?

And I have products placed on the dutch site in woocommerce and no english products yet, how does that work?

            Thanks so much,

            Tina

            • Hi Tina,
so when you translate posts with WPML you create a new post/page for the existing ones. The translated posts won’t be visible to your customers (and also won’t get indexed by the search engines) until you include a langue switcher in your site (you know, the thing with little flags that allows you to change the language). So you can prepare your translations in WordPress and once you are done, add the language switcher.

You will have to remove the translation that is shown below the original post now. When using WPML you will have the translation separated and Google will appreciate it. This is the recommended way to keep your translation (on separate pages).

If you don’t have your products translated yet, that’s even better. You will add the translation after installing our plugins.

              So to sum up:
              1. You install and configure WPML plugin first and set Dutch as the primary language
              2. You translate your posts/pages (and other elements, if needed, such as categories, tags…)
              3. You remove the English text from the original posts/pages
              4. You include the language switcher to make your translations visible to other people and to let search engines to index them

You can install the WooCommerce Multilingual plugin and translate your products any time, so right after the step #1 or later.

  4. Hey,

building crowdfunding site on Ignitiondeck Enterprise and Backer theme. I’ve been told that the issue with having a multilingual site is the project/product not being properly linked as WordPress does not support it 100%. I guess it means the url – meaning if the project url is http://yourdomain.com/projects/project-1 and the Spanish version of the site is http://es.yourdomain.com so will it appear correcly in Spanish if going to http://es.yourdomain.com/projects/project-1 ?

I’m not really technical so my question can be a bit off but my concern is whether your service is able to handle multilingual crowdfunding site with many projects on it? I’m only interested in localizing UI so those project texts that every creator enter don’t have to be localized.

Hope you get my idea. Feel free to ask further questions if needed.

    Thanks,
    Mika

  5. I want to buy the plugin but I am initially paying with my credit card and I will bill my client later. Is it easy to transfer the plugin on his name?

    • You can do this but actually you don’t have to. The WPML subscription allows you to use WPML on as many sites as you want. If you are more technical than your customer it would be better not to transfer the subscription because only the owner can ask the question in our support forum and has direct access to the recourse available via WPML account.

  6. Hello! I have a question before i buy the WPML plugin. My current language is Hungarian on my website. Can i make on it different english menu with different pages ? Or i can only translate my current hungarian pages ?

    • Hi Zach,
your menus for these two languages don’t have to be exactly the same. So you can have some pages only in Hungarian and/or some pages only in English. No problem, WPML will handle that.

  7. Hello
I am thinking of buying your “Multilingual Blog” for $ 29. I want to translate my Swedish pages (not posts) to English and that the English and Swedish flag is displayed in the menu. Is then sufficient “Multilingual Blog” for $ 29 for this job?
What means”Account Renewal per year” What happens in a year if I do not want to use WPML any more? Will my pages that I have translated disappear?
    Regards
    Pelle

    • Hi Pelle, yes, the Blog version is enough to translate pages and insert the language switcher. If you don’t renew your subscription after the first year you can still the plugin installed. You lose only access to future releases and support help.

  8. Hello Again! What happend to my question? It disappear?

    • Your question was waiting for moderation. I have just replied. So your translations won’t disappear even if you don’t renew your subscription.

    • Ho Dansk,
      as in my previous reply,
when you raise a ticket in our support forum there will be an option to share the access to your site with our supporters.

  9. Hi

We have a client who wants a separate domain for each language. Is that possible?

    for example we have

    mydomain.com in english
    mydomain.es in spanish
    mydomain.fr in french
    and so on…

If this is possible can you please link to some documentation that has instructions on how this works?

    Thanks,
    Asim

  10. Hello,

After adding a new site I just noticed that my account subscription has expired. My question is why do I have to pay again 79$ when renewal costs 39$.

Please help me on the matter.

    Thanks,
    Darsej

    • Once your account has expired, you cannot renew it for $39. You can buy again at the full price, or better, upgrade to a Lifetime account. When you upgrade to a Lifetime account, you need to pay the difference between the full price and what you paid already. It will be $116 and you get WPML updates and support for life. Most people choose this option after their first year with us.

  11. Hi

I am about to create a bilingual site in English and Lao.

Do you support Lao language (and associated flag)?
What is the process for obtaining the Lao font and uploading – if you don’t do this – can you point me in the right direction so I can confirm I can do this before proceeding with the Multilingual CMS purchase.

    Thanks

  12. Hello,

We are about to build a national shop (Dutch), it has to be prepared to go international.

We would like one database for our products.

When we go to Germany/France/UK, WPML should be able to translate the PAGES/POSTS/PRODUCTS/SEO-FIELDS/WOOcommerce field/Endpoints. Is WPML capable of doing so?

Are all text areas (AGES/POSTS/PRODUCTS/SEO-FIELDS/WOOcommerce field/Endpoints)translated after the consumers chooses his language? (Or via browser language detection?)

    Thank you,

    Jasper

    • Hello,
you can translate all the elements with WPML and the WooCommerce Multilingual plugins but WPML doesn’t do this automatically. You provide the translations. But yes, WPML allows you to translate your products (for this you need this free extension called WooCommerce Multilingual downloadable from wordpress.org repo), and translate pages/posts/slugs/menus/categories/custom fields and make it SEO friendly (WPML is fully compatible with the SEO by Yoast plugin).

This can be achieved with the CMS or Lifetime subscription.

    • Sorry did you mean a redirect from shop.com to shop.com/fr? (the other way round). Yes the whole site should appear in a given language, all the site’s elements. But this won’t happen automatically. As explained in my previous comment, WPML allows you to prepare all elements of your site to be translated but it doesn’t translate automatically. You need to insert the translations or import them or send to professional translators from your WP)

  13. Hello!

I am interested in buying the WPML plugin but since you don’t have automatic translation, are you able to tell me what makes the WPML plugin better than the other wordpress plugins available for free? Specifically the Polylang plugin that I am trying to decide between that and the WPML.

    Thanks so much!

    • Hi Jimmy,
I’m not up to date with the recent changes with the Polylang plugin but when I was working as a WP freelancer in the past I used both. What I missed in the Polylang but WPML has: default options and settings more intuitive, you can change the admin lang independently from your front-end language in WPML, you can use the same slugs for posts/pages that sound the same in both languages (for example “blog”), most themes are fully compatible with WPML so no extra job is required, support help (we have several supporters working full time), WPML is fully compatible with the WooCommerce plugin. We are making our living on developing this plugin so we keep up to date with WP features releases. More than 500 000 sites use WPML so we cannot disappoint them all 🙂

  14. We want to be certain that it won’t bug/is compatible in SSL/HTTPS (certificate) mode.
we are using qtranslate presently and any links to translate reverts to the primary language and does not show the translated text. PLease inform. Thanks, Pierre.

    • Hi Pierre, yes WPML is compatible with in SSL/HTTPS (certificate) mode. You can translate the slugs/links easily, you have fool control on them, you can also make them SEO friendly and they work. You can have a look how they work here, on this site, you will find the language switcher in the footer.

  15. Hello,

    I have post-sales question 🙂

My subscription to wpml.org will expire on December 19th, 2015 and I’m interesting, if I will NOT renew my subscription:

    1. Will I be able to add the new sites end get new activation codes for them?!
    2. Will WPML plugin continue to work for my current websites?!

    Thanks.

    David

    • Hi David,
you’re plugin won’t stop working but you will not receive any future updates and you ask questions in our support forum. In case you will upgrade your WordPress to a new release and you won’t upgrade WPML I cannot predict what will happen. Please note that you can upgarte your subscription to Lifetime and pay the difference only. But you cannot miss your renewal date.

      • Thanks for your reply.

You wrote: “you’re plugin won’t stop working”.

Does it mean, that I will be able to add the new sites end get new activation codes for them?!

        Thanks.

        David

        • David,
no, you won’t be able to add new sites because automatic updates require active subscription. But you will be able to upload WPML plugins manually to new sites. Like any other WP plugins. To make this happen you need to have a copy saved on your local disk because without an active subscription you won’t have access to plugin downloads from your WPML account.

          • Ok, I will be able to upload WPML plugins manually to new sites.
But what about the registration keys for new sites?

There is no reason to upload WPML plugins manually to new sites, if I will not get new registration keys, isn’t it?

So, my main question is, wiil I be able to add new sites in my account and get new registration keys for them?

            I hope, it’s simple question.

            • Why I need to upload to upload WPML plugins manually to new sites, if I will not get new registration keys for them? WPML plugin will not work in this case. Or maybe, you manually uploaded WPML will work without registration keys?

              • WPML is a WordPress plugin, so you can upload it to your site as any other WP plugin if you have it in the zip format. You can also send the files to your WordPress site via ftp. And it will work even if you don’t register it. You need the keys to receive updates automatically. Also without an active subscription you won’t get access to WPML future releases.

              • Wow! You want to say, keys are required for automatic updates only?!
And WPML plugin will work without the registration keys?!
                I don’t knew about it.

                • Yes, exactly, I mean the version you have installed. But it’s good to have an active subscription because WordPress core changes and in order to keep WPML compatible with future WP releases you need to have an active subscription.

  16. Hello!

Are you planning to have any Black Friday promotion or give any coupon code?

I always wanted to buy the plugin but it is a little expensive for my budget.

    Best regards
    Juan

    • Hi Juan,
sorry, but no such plans. You can use WPML for all the sites you build and this is one of the reasons some developers find it a good investment. You can start with the CMS subscription and if you like WPML you can upgrade after the first year to the Lifetime and pay the difference only. In case you are not fully satisfied we have refunds policy:
      https://wpml.org/purchase/refunds-policy/

  17. We are looking for not only the WPML Plugin but for a reliable, long-term coder / designer to migrate an existing wordpress site into WPML.

    Can you offer advice?

    Roman

  18. Hello,

I already purchased WPML last year and integrated it into my site. I am now being reminded to pay again and would like to know what it is I am paying for since it only mentions upgrades. So if I have it installed and am not planning on upgrading do I not need to pay again this year for the additional upgrading service, or do I always have to pay to conserve WPML working on my site for as long as I have the site. In other words: is it an option, or is the subscription obligatory to continue using multilingual setup on the site?

    Thanks,

    Karla
