Hi
I have a German job website with a filter. In this filter you can choose categories such as finance, child care, administration etc. In German, the filter is sorted alphabetically. If I now translate the categories from German into English, are the categories in the English version also sorted alphabetically?
What about the website speed? Someone told me that WPML is slower than e.g. TranslatePress?
Hello Alex,
I’m trying to understand what you mean by filters in your specific case. Do you use a plugin to handle those? Can I have a link to your website, please?
WPML can affect your site’s performance a little (there will be a few more requests to the database to handle the content cross-linking) but that’s normal. Of course, there might be some extreme cases where the site’s performance suffer significantly but then we can further investigate your case to see what plugin/setting combinations cause the conflict.
Check the categories: they are sorted alphabetically. But what happens if I translate it to another language? will it be then also sorted alphabetically
Hello Alex,
Thank you for the link. It helps a lot. This theme has been tested by our Compatibility Team (please check this link) and it means that it should work as you expect. Let me contact the developer who was fixing some compatibility issues for the theme to see if he can give me a yes/no answer.
Hello,
I’m going to build a website using WordPress Multisite and WPML. At the moment the website structure is as follow:
corporatedomain.com
corporatedomain.com/company1
corporatedomain.com/company2
corporatedomain.com/company3
In the future, the number of controlled companies could increase. What type of paid version of WPML should I buy? Looking at the price list, the term”site” means domain? So that I should purchase the Multilingual CMS version to get all available features?
Please reply ASAP,
Best regards.
Hello Marino,
thank you for your interest in WPML. Yes, site means domain. Yes, you need to purchase the Multilingual CMS version to get all available features. And you will be able to register 3 different domains with that kind of subscription.
Hello Kevin,
yes, you should be able to put the language switcher there. In WPML settings you will find an option to add the language switcher to a specific menu.
https://wp.jmstheme.com/madebyhand/
I want to buy this theme but right now its not providing RTL feature (Right to left side) . So WPML is compatible for RTL . I mean after installation WPML style.css automatically convert to style-rtl.css or something else .
Hello,
better to choose a theme that already supports RTL. Otherwise, you will need to add your own CSS styles manually to mirror the content. WPML works both with RTL ready themes and themes that are not RTL ready but buying a theme that has RTL support will save you a lot of time. Please read more here: https://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/build-rtl-wordpress-themes/
Hello Theodore,
there is no special integration with the Live Composer page builder. WPML might work with this plugin but you will need to recreate the layouts for each of your languages (you can use the duplicate option to speed up translation). Here’s the list of page builders we are compatible with: https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/page-builders/
year renewal is required or it is only if I want newer version of plugin?
Lets say I purchase and install your plugin on my site will it stop work after the year or it will just stop update after one year?
Hello Anton, if you don’t renew your subscription, you can still use the plugins that you have installed but you won’t be able to update them to new versions and you will also lose access to our support forum.
1. I have a 3 site license, is there an upgrade price to go to agency license?
2. If I have a WP Multisite install, do I need a key for each subdomain, or does the key work for all sites under the main domain?
1. Yes, and you will pay the difference in purchase price. You will find a link to upgrade in your WPML account.
2. This case counts as one domain. In other words, you need only one key for all sites on your WP Multisite install.
The non-profit purchase request form seems to no longer exist, have you stopped offering WPML for free to registered charities? When I put in the link that has previously worked (when I was with a previous employer) I get an ‘Error 404 – Not Found’ return.
Hello,
that’s correct. We no longer have this offer. If you already have a WPML account that can be used for more than one site, feel free to use it but if you don’t have any, you would need to buy one of our subscription plans: https://wpml.org/purchase/
Hello. I’m thinking of purchasing the Multilingual CMS option but I have a couple of questions:
– if I buy the Multilingual CMS, am I buying something I can use for ever, or is this a subscription model that I’ll have to pay every year?
– after installing this in a client, what will happen to this plugin and its translations after de first year? Will they lose it all if we don’t keep paying WPML or will it work forever?
– also, will I be able to keep updating my wordpress website and the wpml plugin after the first year or will I have to keep paying a subscription to be able to use it?
Hello Andreia,
1. It’s a subscription model. You can cancel it anytime. Simply click the cancel button in your WPML account and we won’t charge you next year (and never again).
2. Nothing will be lost since an active subscription is required only to get new updates and our support help. Canceling your subscription won’t affect your current plugins. They will continue working.
3. In order to access new WPML updates, you will need to keep paying. Please check the pricing table, the “Account renewal per year” row to see the renewal prices.
So, just to double Check, if I buy the Multilingual CMS option, I will be able to use wpml in 3 websites, and for 1 year, I’ll have all updates and support. In order to keep getting them after this first year, I will have to pay a “Account renewal per year”. Right?
So with this renewal, will I be able to use wpml in another 3 new websites? Or am I just renewing the updates and support for the inicial 3?
Do you have any options where we only pay it once and this will be available for ever?

These don’t need to be the same sites. The CMS package will allow you to have only 3 sites registered at a given time, but you can register and unregister your websites as frequently as you want.

Hi, I’m a web developer and a new customer is using the CMS edition of the plugin. My agency is going to rebuild its website and we would like to do so in a separate dev instance (most likely on an unrelated non-public domain). How can we accomplish this without breaching the licensing terms?
Do you have any licensing option for this? I see that you have free licenses for theme and plugin devs, but I don’t see any that apply directly to our role as integrators/configurators.
The CMS package will allow you to register 3 websites (domains). If you need to have both your production and dev sites registered all the time, then you will need to use 2 of these 3 keys we provide within that package. But please note that registration is needed only to get updates (and support help) which means that you can keep only the dev site registered for most of your time and unregister it temporarily for the moment when you want to update your live site. In other words, you can register and unregister your websites as many times as you need. I hope it’s clear now. Let me know if I need to explain anything else.
Hi, I purchased WPML in 2017, but I can no longer update the plugin in wordpress or have access to the technical forum. It was a while ago that I made the purchase and I can’t seem to find clear information as to the terms. Are upgrades and support only available if you pay a yearly subscription?
Just discovered that I do need to repurchase for an update. However, is WPML fully compatible with WordPress 5? My site updated and it’s important I know whether the plugin is fully compatible before purchasing again.
Hello Alexandre,
yes, we are compatible with WordPress 5.0 (and above). If you already use the new editor we also provide a better way to translate your posts and pages so that you create your layout once (in the new editor) and you translate only the content (without the need to recreate the whole layout/blocks again for each language).
Im about to purchase WPML, but i only have one question:
My wordpress installation is at https://1974surfboards.com.br, but i also have the .com that its been redirected to the .com.br URL. I have heard that, if i gonna use a multilingual website, it should be ending with .com, and not .com.br as it is my case, because the ideal URL would be, for example:
How should i proceed with it? Should i migrate my wordpress instalation to the .com version of my site with my web hosting company? Or is that an option to generate this ideal URL (.com/fr and not .com.br/fr) during the WPML instalation?
Hope you could understand my questions,
Thank you very much for your time and help.
Hello Guilherme,
if you stick to your current domain you won’t be able to generate the .com/fr URL during the WPML installation. Be default WPML allows you to use the following structure:
Hello,
I am using WPML Multilingual CMS version 3.0.1 (very old I know). Now because of the upgrading php to 7.0, I assume version 3.0.1 can not be used (not compatible). Am I right? If so, Could you tell me what I should do to update WPML.
Thanks in advance
WPML Multilingual CMS version 3.0.1 is very old indeed. Our current version is 4.2.1. Upgrading from a very old version is always risky. Best would be to try it on a copy first and for sure take backup of your site first.
Thanks for a reply. Can you tell me how to update to latest version from version 3.0.1. I fave found the following link but there is no “Migrate ICanLocalize Translation to WPML 3.2” plugin in downloads section.
To upgrade WPML you need to:
1. Register your site
2. In your WordPress go to Plugins -> Add new -> Commercial tab and update the plugin from that screen.
Please check this link: https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/
But since you are using a very old version of WPML you might have some issues so I’d recommend doing it on a copy first. If you need more technical hints on how to proceed, please contact our support team before updating the plugins or hire one of our WPML contractors for assistance.

Hi, I am planing to build a site where users may write in different languages (e.g. someone from Spain writes articles in Spanish, someone from Germany writes articles in German). I am interested to find out if the plugin allows the following: A reader from Mexico (who presumably knows Spanish) enters the website and the website automatically detects his region and transfers to Spanish and only the posts in Spanish are visible to that user. If he selects another language, all the posts in the selected language will show up. If someone from Austria enters the website the posts in German are shown, etc. The idea is that I could include a language button for users to select the language as taxonomy when posting and filtering options but I want this to be done automatically and was thinking if part or all of these can be achieved through your plugin.
Hello Anreai,
this is not possible by default in pure WPML. You would need to use the Toolset Access plugin, which is a part of Toolset. It comes from the same company (we are the authors of both WPML plugins and Toolset plugins).

I am working in Divi theme / builder, most recent version 3.19.15 with a child theme installed.
Not sure which version of WPML I need. When I look at this page on your site https://wpml.org/purchase/
It seems to say that Multilingual CMS is required for “Page Builder Support”. Does this include the divi theme / builder?
In other words, do I have to get the more expensive plugin if I’m using Divi?
Hello Sandra,
yes, you need to buy the CMS package to translate your Divi-based website.
The WPML CMS package doesn’t include the Divi builder but all WPML plugins that allow you to fully translate your website that uses Divi.

Hello, we don’t have Lifetime packages anymore. Here is our current offer: https://wpml.org/purchase/

Would your plugin allow me to custom translate the different pages?

You will find more details in this forum thread:

Thank you. I already use Toolset.

We are compatible with the WPBakery Page Builder: https://wpml.org/plugin/wpbakery-page-builder/
The Ultimate Member plugin hasn’t been tested by our Compatibility Team.

I would like to buy a lifetime subscription for a single website.
Please contact me

Hello Tamás,
I’m sorry, but we don’t have lifetime subscriptions at all.
I want to start a website with Oxygen builder, for now only in one language. If should be successful, I’d like to implement other languages later on the existing site.
Is this easily possible to integrate WPML with an existing Oxygen site, or would I need to set it up already in front?
Hello Andreas,
yes, you can integrate WPML with an existing Oxygen site. This tutorial will help you:

Hello,
upgrading to the Multilingual CMS won’t solve the issue. It will work the same as now. Why would you need two separate login pages?
Ok, thank u, we will do other solution, because we need to load the same modules to login form and they are different for kind of language
hello.
By the list of WP Locale Codes https://wpastra.com/docs/complete-list-wordpress-locale-codes/
Kyrgyz lang code is ky_KY, so that icon in your plugin have to be ky.png not kg.png. Could you resolve this bug in next releases?
Hello,
I’ll report it to our developers. Thank you.
Hello, here’s the reply from our developer:
“ky” is the ISO code of Cayman Island.
“kg” is the ISO code of Kyrgyzstan.
As far as I can see, WPML handles these codes correctly” Are you our customer? Could you please open a ticket about that issue in case you had something else in mind?
