We haven’t tested WPML with amember. Our own site is also a membership site, but we’ve built it all ourselves. The best option would be to get the amember folks to work together with us and check the compatibility status.
I want to run a multi language blog, but also want to translate the link descriptions, link category, post category and tags in multiple languages. Is the blogversion still sufficient or do I need the CMS version.
The main difference for you will be WPML’s String Translation module, which allows translating non-post strings. These include widget titles, tagline, etc.
Please note that WPML doesn’t translate the WordPress blogroll. People usually replace that with a simple text widget for multilingual sites.
Can it be done with the string translator? I use the blogroll for administrating the links on a central place and have a plug-in which generates an output with a number of links. That can be used on a page or in a post.
It is kind of important to me to have the feature. Otherwise the 79 dollar is quite a huge amount of money for the plug-in for me.
I just bought the basic wpml, but have not received a password to access my account to download the plug-in? Can you please discover why not?
Thank you
Catherine
I resent you the new-account email from my personal email. If you’re still not getting it, please use our contact form and possibly give us a different email address. It might be blocked on shaw.ca.
WPML is fully compatible with wordpress latest version and will always be.
As long as you are a WPML subscriber, you get our new versions releases free of charge.
In addition to that, you are entitled to use our support forum for any technical question you might have.
Hello, i am using the theme “The builder” From Theme forest with the woo commerce plugin. I want to make sure that i will have no problems during the installation such as a bug or disfunctionnement… I don’t want to reupload my database and to loose my data…
WPML works fine with WooCommerce. Right now, we’re working with WooCommerce team on an updated version for WordPress 3.4. If you don’t mind using a development version for a little while, everything should be fine for you.
I’m not sure about the theme. I don’t think that we’ve tested it. You can ask the theme author to work with us. We’re happy to work with any author who wants to check compatibility. Please send them here: http://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/go-global-program/
In any case, before you install new plugins or change theme, we strongly recommend to backup your database. We do this as standard practice, before any new installs or upgrades. Everything should work fine, but it’s better to have backup than be sorry later.
I currently have a website which I want to redirect to another domain (I want to use another url for/rename my website). How does this work exactly with WPML?
I’m an admin for a non-profit organization’s web site and we want to go bilingual. Your solution seems to fit the bill, but I would like to build my own theme using Headway and use s2Member as a gatekeeper because of its strong security. Any issues that you know of? Also, would it be wise to use multisite or is a single installation sufficient?
WPML works fine with Headway. We haven’t tested with s2Member, but I don’t see any reasons for conflicts. In any case, if you run into any sort of issues, our support staff is here to help. And, we also offer 30-days refunds, in case you’re not 100% happy with WPML.
Hi
Is it me, or is there no ‘Installation’ readme file with my WPML plugin (purchased today). I can see plenty of set up and config help on the site, but no ‘how to install’ instructions!.
Pretty sure sure I simply unzip and FTP into my ‘wp-content/plugins’ directory, but thought I’d check. Surely a good idea to bundle this with the download?
Thanks
You’re right. It’s a standard WordPress install. Unzip and put in the ‘wp-content/plugins’ directory. Depending on what you purchased, WPML includes several components, as described here: http://wpml.org/documentation/wpml-core-and-add-on-plugins/
If you’re using more than the core plugin, each addon is a separate WordPress plugin. You need to download the ZIP from our server, upload and activate.
BTW, we’re working on a fully automated first-time install process. It will be ready pretty soon.
Thanks for such a super quick response Amir. As I suspected – a very straightforward install, thanks. (A tiny bundled txt file called ‘Installation’ would still be a good idea though 😉 )
Best
Walter
Hi,
We are interested in your plugin WPML.To make sure that the plugin fulfills our needs, could you please provide to us the admin access to a demo WordPress site where WPML is fully running?
Marek
I currently have a website which I want to redirect to another domain (I want to use another url for/rename my website). How, if at all, does this work exactly with WPML?
I’ve sent 2 emails regarding my question but unfortunately no response. I think your plugin is really great but would like to test it thoroughly before purchase. Do you have a Demo website with access to the Dashboard for me to test the features?
Thanks
Sorry, but we don’t have a demo site. We do offer 30-days refunds. If you buy WPML and are not 100% happy with it, just ask and you get your money back. Very few people actually ask for refunds.
I’m using u-design theme and was wondering if I should get the blog or the cms version.
I know it’s explained on your site, but I’m not that familiar with WP, so it’s not 100% clear.
can you just give a quick idea of why should I get the CMS instead of the blog version?
u-design themes are pretty complex (in a good way) and use everything that WordPress has to offer. You’ll need to CMS version to run a fully multilingual site.
I’d like to translate to a language and put a link in the header, which I would have to put in the header file.
1) Is there a way to do this?
2) Will the theme work with Modernize?
3) The site has both static pages and a blog. Which version of the plugin do you recommend we get?
I’ve asked this question two times already, but unfortunately no response:
I currently have a website which I want to redirect to another domain (I want to use another url for/rename my website). How, if at all, does this work exactly with WPML?
I’m not sure that I understand the question. If you have a multilingual site with WPML, you can change its URL, independent of WPML. Changing the site’s URL will require you to edit the database and update posts and some values in the options table. This is not related to WPML. You’ll need to do that on any WordPress site that is changing URL.
Hi, i am using the free 2.0.4 version of WPML, and happy with it. Now i want to buy the paid version 2.5. I want to know can i upgrade to the paid WPML without problem or there will be some work.??
There isn’t supposed to be any work in it for you. You should backup your database (to be on the safe side), deactivate WPML, remove it and install the current version. Full steps here: http://wpml.org/faq/how-to-upgrade-to-the-commercial-version/
In relation to my previous question about redirection: I am not familiar with WMPL (yet), but it seems logical to me that am multilingual site will have an original url, and another a url for the translation. Does it not work that way? I assumed that it does.
I purchased your plugin a year or two ago but lost my account data including username/login. Could you please somehow recover my account using my name and send me access to my purchased plugin.
When you click on the ‘Account’ botton at the top of our homepage, there’s a ‘forgot password’ link. Can you use this to reset your password? We don’t keep passwords in plaintext, so it cannot be resent. It can be reset only and sent to your email.
I’m running WordPress 3.4.1 and use the Academica theme from ProudThemes.com. I have three questions about the WPML plugin.
1. Is it compatible with the Academica theme?
2. I only want to have certain pages/posts in the site as multilingual. The others I want to keep monolingual in English. Can I do this? And if so, what happens when a user has say the German language enabled and clicks on a page/post that is only in English? Will the user be directed to the English language page, and how will the url look?
3. Am I correct in thinking that WPML plugin updates are only possible if the reduced subscription fee is paid every year?
2. You can do that too. We’ve added a ‘content duplication’ module to WPML, that specifically addresses this need. German visitors will see the English content, but in the German URLs. The navigation will remain in German. WPML points duplicate pages to the original ones, so that Google knows where the original source is and disregards these duplicates. It’s good for SEO.
3. Correct. With your purchase, you receive a year of support and upgrades and can use WPML on as many sites as you need. To renew this support and upgrades, we ask for 50% of the original price in subsequent years.
In relation to my previous question about redirection: I am not familiar with WMPL (yet), but it seems logical to me that am multilingual site will have an original url, and another a url for the translation. Does it not work that way? I assumed that it does. If it does work this way, is a redirection (before of after installation of WPML) not a problem then? And if it doesn’t work this way, how then?
Hello Amir,
you recently replied to one of my questions about redirecting and WPML/translation.
You wrote: “Correct. The translation will have its own URL. Can you tell what sort of redirections you have now? If you\’re redirecting for translation, you\’ll probably not need to do this with WPML.”
At the moment, I do not have any redirects at all. What do you mean exactly with the last part of your answer (not redirecting for translatiopn with WPML)? What I want to do is this: first finding out if redirection is not a problem with WPML, then redirecting my site, then buying/installing WPML if things are looking good 🙂
Thanks
Hello,
I am keen to setup a bi-lingual website using amember membership software with WP:
http://www.amember.com/p/main/features/
Do your plugin compatible with that membership software?
Do let me know soon.
Thanks,
Steven
We haven’t tested WPML with amember. Our own site is also a membership site, but we’ve built it all ourselves. The best option would be to get the amember folks to work together with us and check the compatibility status.

Do you offer any discounts or a testing period?
Sorry, but we don’t have any of these.
Will the WPML Multilingual Blog enable me to have a translated Navigation menu as described here: http://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/translating-menus/
The Blog version includes menu translation. Have a look here for what’s only included in the CMS version:

Sorry, but we don’t have demo versions of WPML or an online demo site. We offer full refunds if you’re not happy with the plugin.
Again, my (overlooked?) question:
I currently have a website which I want to redirect to another domain (I want to use another url for/rename my website). How, if at all, does this work exactly with WPML?

Hi-
I’m looking to translate a site built with the Modernize wordpress theme.
http://themeforest.net/item/modernize-flexibility-of-wordpress/1264247
I’d like to translate to a language and put a link in the header, which I would have to put in the header file.
1) Is there a way to do this?
2) Will the theme work with Modernize?
3) The site has both static pages and a blog. Which version of the plugin do you recommend we get?
Thanks,
Al
1. You should be able to edit the theme’s header file without any problems. You can add a language switcher to it using a few lines of PHP.
2. We haven’t tested WPML with Modernize. We’ll be happy to work on this with the theme author. Want to send them here?
http://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/go-global-program/
3. You should probably get the full CMS version.
