I am considering WPML for use on a website that will include a Redis object cache. I noticed in the support forums that some users have experienced issues using WPML in conjunction with a Redis cache. Have those issues been addressed or is that still a concern I should take into account?
Hello,
Unfortunately, this plugin is not appearing on our list of tested compatible plugins: https://wpml.org/documentation/plugins-compatibility.
So consider those issues a concern to take into account or consider using a different caching plugin. For example WP Rocket or WP Super Cache.
Hello there,
I would like to know if your plug in will work with Redis activated on my hosting.
I have w3 total cache plug in set to work with redis.
Thank you 😉
Hello,
what do you mean by “Redis activated” on your hosting? Do you mean this plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/redis-cache/
?
If so, we cannot anticipate how it will work because it wasn’t tested by our Compatibility Team. You can check it yourself keeping our refund policy in mind. It allows you to test WPML for 30 days without risking anything and you can ask for technical help during that trial on our support forum.
I am setting up a mutli-lang woo-commerce site, would like to know what default woo-commerce visitor side fields, buttons etc it translates. ie Buy buttons, text fields, descriptions etc.
I am looking for a simple solution, I have 300+ products across multiple categories, some will naturally have to be Custom Taxonomies with custom fields etc and if required linked with Woo via php for WP console and or visitor display. What I need to know and I am trying to establish is where your plugin would need me to start coding manually, as 300+ items changing 2-3 times a year could quickly become a a head ache with 3-4 languages…
I am planning on setting up custom page.php for specific products in specific custom categories ie pump 1 might have 9 custom fields, yet pump 2 might only have 2 custom fields etc.
Plus I am looking to have different pricing per currency & terms and conditions etc. so only want to do certain tasks once..
Question: Whilst I understand the custom element will be my responsibility, I need to know what fields your WMPL translates out of the box for Woo-Commerce and if any Woo-Plugins…
Reason: This way I can build out of the box woo, whilst custom scripting the remaining content, without going overboard with custom.child.functions.php and hooks all over the place, per custom.details.page.php etc…
I trust this makes sense…
If you can point me to support info, developer info I can read through and hopefully answer question, ahead of purchase
Hello Karl,
Translations for texts coming from the WooCommerce plugin will work as long as the plugin provides the translation in po/mo files, you can also use WPML to translate those.
WPML doesn’t translate anything automatically but you can also use our ATE editor which provides machine translation and allow you to use the bulk feature to translate many products in one go.
Let me consult the rest with our WooCommerce/WPML developer.
We would like to use your tools for our website but we using WordPress 3.9.1 on PHP 5.4 and for various reasons we cannot update our website to comply with the minimum requirements indicated (WordPress 4.4 on PHP 5.6)
Could you provide us, the references, to the latest versions available on your website compatible with WordPress 3.9.1 and PHP 5.4?
Is it possible to upgrade a WPML license from the CMS to Agency level? We’re looking at testing the plugin on a single demo system before rolling out to a suite of sites.
I am planning to purchase WPML and I’ll need to install it on a development environment, then a staging environment before going to production. How does it work with licences? If I buy the CMS $79 version for 3 sites, will I have to activate the plugin in the dev and staging environment which will allow me to use the plugin on only 1 production site? In other words, after installing the plugin on a dev and staging environment (2 installs), will I still be able to install the plugin on 3 production sites?
Hello Martin,
You are welcome to install WPML on the development and staging sites first and then delete the urls and register the production sites. You can delete and add urls as many times as you need it as long as the subscription is active.
We’re looking to add French support to our English-only website. The website was built using primarily Custom Post Types and Custom Fields creator – WCK. Is WPML compatible with it?
Hello Yulia,
this plugin hasn’t been checked by our Compatibility Team so we don’t know how it will work with WPML. WPML works fine with custom post types and custom fields as long as they follow WordPress standards so it should work fine but I cannot say for sure. Luckily our refund policy allows you to test WPML for 30 days without any risk. In case you are not completely satisfied, please fill out this form: https://wpml.org/purchase/refunds-policy/
Hello, before buying I would like to know if it is possible to import the translation I already have on my site (translatepress plugin). I can’t find anything about this topic.
Hello,
it depends on how your footer is built and what theme you use. For example, the Multilingual Blog doesn’t allow you to translate widgets and many themes use widgets in your footer. You can start with the Blog version and upgrade to the CMS package later for the difference in the purchase price. It won’t affect your current setup because the CMS package offers additional plugins.
If you need access to our support forum and also access to new versions for all the years to come, then yes, you would need to renew it every year (so you pay $79 for the first year and $59 for the following years ($59 each). If you are happy with the plugins you bought and don’t need updates and our support assistance, you can still use WPML even without an active subscription, so in this case, it would be your final price.
I have a wedding photography business website in english that should be translated to portuguese and german. The translations are presented in different domains, but there’s just one installation of WP – on the English version.
Is this considered a 3 website (therefore Multilingual CMS apply) or the license for the Multilingual Blog would be enough?
If the Multilingual Blog is enough, is there any reason I should consider buying the Multilingual CMS instead?
Hello,
if this is just one installation of WP, one registration key will suffice.
The CMS version provides more options – you can see the difference in this big comparison table: https://wpml.org/purchase/
Hi, I only want to translate certain, not all pages of my website. Can your plugin be set up so that the second language option shows only on the translated pages and not on the others? Thanks
Hello, we are planning on buying WPML for our company but we can only approve the initial payment at the moment. We don’t want to be charged the renewal fee every year automatically because that would require approval from our administration department.
I have two questions:
– is it possible to buy WPML without automatic renewals?
– will we be able to use the plugin after the first year if we dont renew the product?
is it possible to buy WPML without automatic renewals?
Yes, of course. In your WPML account, you will see the “Cancel” button. Simply click on it. You can do it anytime. You will get updates and you will be able to get our support help by the end of the period you have paid for even if you cancel is right after your purchase. After that period you can still use WPML plugins but you won’t get new versions and our support help. The first part of this page explains how to cancel your subscription. https://wpml.org/purchase/how-to-change-your-payment-method/
Yes, the plugins will work even if you don’t renew your subscription.
Hi,
I’m currently developing a WordPress website and created custom plugins to suit my needs without the overload of third-party plugins.
I’m considering WPML for the translations since it seems the most user friendly solution.
The only issue is that I wolud like to test it locally prior to purchase due to the fact that I used custom code in several places.
Is there an option to have a limited time trial?
Thanks,
Hello, we don’t have any free trials but for cases as yours we have the refund policy and it works better than free trials because it gives you access to our support forum as well.
I have a site registered with WPML but do not have account details as it was built by another developer and I do not have access to their account. The site was rebuilt and so I am unable to access downloads to re-install. Is it possible I can get the 4 plugins needed so I can get them re-installed into the website? As I said, the website URL is registered with yourselves, so the license is up to date.
Hello,
if the site is registered and the license up to date, you can do it yourself from your site. Simply go to Plugins -> Add new -> Switch to the commercial tab and you will be able to update the plugins. If you need to download them, you can do it via ftp.
Sorry if I was not clear – I do not have ANY install of WMPL, so I am not able to update them. The only way I can get the initial plugins is via an account, which I do not have access to.
From our system point of view, the person who brought the plugins from us is the owner of the account and we cannot share access to this account. In this case, you would need to buy WPML. If the WPML plugins are already installed you will need to generate a new key, go to your WP site, remove the old one and replace it with the new. If you don’t have WPML plugins installed anywhere you need to download it from your WPML account, go to WP -> Plugins -> Add new and upload it and configure.
Without the main plugin, you won’t able to update the other plugins. As I explained in my previous reply, only the owner of the WPML account can do it. So, in this case, you would either contact your developer and ask him to do it or buy WPML from us.
Hello Fernando,
I’m not sure if I understand your question correctly. We provide only two ways to buy WPM: Credit card / PayPal. That’s because WPML is based on the subscription model. Of course, you can cancel your subscription anytime you want and still use WPML plugins.
I am about to buy WMPL Multilingual CMS for site I am in the process of building.
Could you please tell me, if I don’t renew one year, does the dual-lingual capacity of my website disappear, or is it the support I am paying for each year when I renew?
Hello,
I confirm that your content won’t disappear, renewals are not mandatory and required just for new versions of our plugins and our support assistance.
Hi,
The ruling of the European Court of Justice on the 10th. of October has unfortunately made the explicit agreement of the website visitor before any cookie use mandatory (Opt-in).
The only exception seems to be the “necessary” cookies.
I know some other translation plugins that do not use cookies or use one cookie that can be disabled without causing the translation to be affected. You use 6 cookies. I have two questions:
1. how can we disable these six cookies?
2. will the translation and manually switching between languages will still work when the cookies are disabled?
We are going to have it covered in a public page soon.
For logged-in users, we create cookies that are needed as much as WordPress needs the cookies it creates for logged in users. For anonymous visitors, we do not create cookies.
Here’s what our lead dev says:
“The only option we provide about cookies is for AJAX requests, which may need to keep the current language stored in a cookie.
This option is called “Language filtering for AJAX operations” and can be found the WPML > Languages page.
With this option disabled, most of the AJAX calls may fail to detect the current language and will fall back to the default language: this may cause unwanted behaviors.
In any case, the so-called “cookie law”, the GDPR and all similar laws require explicit consent before storing user’s sensitive data.
The key here is the “sensitive data” part.
This is well defined here.
The data stored by WPML is not sensitive, as it doesn’t fall under this definition.
Some data, for authenticated users and only for some kind of them (translators, managers) might be shared (both through cookies) to third-party services.
WPML provide information about what kind of data it stores, through the Privacy Page functionality in WordPress (Settings > Privacy).
WPML won’t ask for explicit consent and will never do that.
The reason is that if all plugins would do something that, visitors would be flooded by similar requests by each plugin dealing with cookies.
Ideally, this is something that WordPress must provide, through some API (then, plugins like WPML could “hook” to the API), so to have a centralized way to handle this sort of options. I know there is a team working on that.
Some third-party plugins provide similar functionality.”
Thanks Agnes for this.
Just please check the ruling. It does not state anything about sensitive information. It states “That decision is unaffected by whether or not the information stored or accessed on the user’s
equipment is personal data”.
It would be good to keep the cookies to the minimum necessary or have a way to deactivate them without causing a problem.
Hello, thank you for your information. “have a way to deactivate them without causing a problem” yes, but what sounds simple in theory, might be hard to accomplish in practice. I’m gonna share your feedback with our development team.
have a WP site with 4 languages. English is the main language.
I currently use the multilanguage plugin “Multilanguage by BestWebSoft” and I have tried it with 2 different SEO plugins: Yoast and SEO framework.
But I run into the same issue each time: I can only add english meta tags for all 4 languages on my site. I need to be able to write unique meta tags for each language in their local language.
Is the issue here the plugin “Multilanguage by BestWebSoft”? How DO i know that i wont get the same issues with your plugin?
We are compatible with the Yoast plugin and we use it here, on this site (wpml.org), for example you can check on this page: https://wpml.org/de/purchase/ruckerstattung/
Please preview the HTML source and locate the following string: “Yoast SEO plugin” – you will see the meta description available in German. We are also compatible with other SEO plugins, “The SEO Framework” including.
I use the theme OSHIN from Brandexponents and pages are built with their own editor TATSU. I know that it fully supports WPML.
I have a very simple OnePager and I‘m the only author using / editing it.
So I wanted to know if the standard licence „blog“ for $29 fits my needs (simple translation in 3 languages within the one pager).
Hello Chris,
The Oshine theme hasn’t been tested by our Compatibility Team and we don’t know how it will work with WPML considering the fact it has its own editor. Most likely you will be able to translate all basic stuff but for the content created with TATSU, you will need to duplicate the pages. It’s hard to say. I found this ticket: https://wpml.org/forums/topic/buttons-built-on-tatsu-page-builder-are-not-translated/
You can buy the Blog version and check it yourself. If it turns out that it doesn’t suffice, you can upgrade to the CMS version later for the difference in the purchase price.
thanx for the quick reply. Is it really necessary to duplicate the pages when using a special editor? That would be hard for updating pages, because I‘d need to make every single changement (for example adding new modules) on every page. What I‘m looking for is a solution where I can make changes on a single page and add the required translations in one single place.
Yes, when a theme uses its own page builder and that page builder is not compatible with WPML, you need to duplicate the content. Yes, that’s hard and that’s why we made all the major page builders compatible with WPML. Here’s the list: https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/page-builders/
Hi there,
I’m considering buying WPML Multilingual Blog. I see there’s full compatibility with the Avada theme and its Fusion Builder. I’m just wondering: does this compatibility apply to WPML Multilingual Blog or do I need to go for the Multilingual CMS?
Thank you, Azzurra

Hello,
I’m building a multilingual website for a small church. Do WPML offer any discount program for such use?
Thank you.
Hello Josh,
I’m sorry but we don’t have any discounts for non-profits. But thanks for asking.
Hello, before buying I would like to know if it is possible to import the translation I already have on my site (translatepress plugin). I can’t find anything about this topic.
Hello,
not, you cannot. We provide migration plugins for similar plugins but not this one. I’m sorry. You will need to migrate your posts manually.
How many languages are supported for automatic translation? Is there a list of those languages? Thank you!
We use Azure’s MT engine and the list of languages it supports is here:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/cognitive-services/translator/language-support
You need to look at the neural-based translation.
Hello,
Please advise what WPML package should I buy if I would like to translate my footer area to various languages?
Is Multilingual Blog package enough or more expensive is needed?
All the best,
Kaido
Hello,
it depends on how your footer is built and what theme you use. For example, the Multilingual Blog doesn’t allow you to translate widgets and many themes use widgets in your footer. You can start with the Blog version and upgrade to the CMS package later for the difference in the purchase price. It won’t affect your current setup because the CMS package offers additional plugins.
Hello,
We are using Salient theme.
If I am not mistaken then Salient uses Widget for footer configurations?
All the best,
Kaido
Is this your theme?
https://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/create-multilingual-wordpress-websites-using-the-salient-theme-and-wpml/
if so, yes, the CMS package is needed.
Thank you.
One last question, if I may: Is the CMS package price $79.00 for one year or as a one time payment?
All the best,
Kaido
If you need access to our support forum and also access to new versions for all the years to come, then yes, you would need to renew it every year (so you pay $79 for the first year and $59 for the following years ($59 each). If you are happy with the plugins you bought and don’t need updates and our support assistance, you can still use WPML even without an active subscription, so in this case, it would be your final price.

Hi, I only want to translate certain, not all pages of my website. Can your plugin be set up so that the second language option shows only on the translated pages and not on the others? Thanks
Hello,
yes, absolutely.
I would like to purchase the unlimited website licence option. However, do I need to renew my purchase every year? Or is the renewal for support?
Renewals are both for support and getting access to new versions.
Thanks!
Hello,
Yes, of course.

Hello,
if the site is registered and the license up to date, you can do it yourself from your site. Simply go to Plugins -> Add new -> Switch to the commercial tab and you will be able to update the plugins. If you need to download them, you can do it via ftp.
Thanks for the reply.
Sorry if I was not clear – I do not have ANY install of WMPL, so I am not able to update them. The only way I can get the initial plugins is via an account, which I do not have access to.
Is there anything you can do?
From our system point of view, the person who brought the plugins from us is the owner of the account and we cannot share access to this account. In this case, you would need to buy WPML. If the WPML plugins are already installed you will need to generate a new key, go to your WP site, remove the old one and replace it with the new. If you don’t have WPML plugins installed anywhere you need to download it from your WPML account, go to WP -> Plugins -> Add new and upload it and configure.
I have the following plugins: –
wpml-translation-management.2.9.4.zip
wpml-string-translation.3.0.6.zip
wpml-media-translation.2.5.5.zip
But I appear to be missing the core plugin – Can you help?
Without the main plugin, you won’t able to update the other plugins. As I explained in my previous reply, only the owner of the WPML account can do it. So, in this case, you would either contact your developer and ask him to do it or buy WPML from us.
Please cancel these requests – I have solved the problem. Thanks.
Glad to hear it!

Hello Fernando,
I’m not sure if I understand your question correctly. We provide only two ways to buy WPM: Credit card / PayPal. That’s because WPML is based on the subscription model. Of course, you can cancel your subscription anytime you want and still use WPML plugins.
Hi there,
I am about to buy WMPL Multilingual CMS for site I am in the process of building.
Could you please tell me, if I don’t renew one year, does the dual-lingual capacity of my website disappear, or is it the support I am paying for each year when I renew?
Many thanks.
Hello,
I confirm that your content won’t disappear, renewals are not mandatory and required just for new versions of our plugins and our support assistance.

Just to correct the date of ECJ ruling. It was on 01.10.2019. Here it is on their website:
https://curia.europa.eu/jcms/upload/docs/application/pdf/2019-10/cp190125en.pdf
We are going to have it covered in a public page soon.

have a WP site with 4 languages.
We are compatible with the Yoast plugin and we use it here, on this site (wpml.org), for example you can check on this page:
https://wpml.org/de/purchase/ruckerstattung/
Please preview the HTML source and locate the following string: “Yoast SEO plugin” – you will see the meta description available in German. We are also compatible with other SEO plugins, “The SEO Framework” including.
Hello!
I was wondering if translations are still possible (in particular automatic ones) on the Divi builder generated pages?
Thank you
WPML works with Divi. If you need machine translations, you can use our ATE editor (and the pricing).
Hi there,
I use the theme OSHIN from Brandexponents and pages are built with their own editor TATSU. I know that it fully supports WPML.
I have a very simple OnePager and I‘m the only author using / editing it.
So I wanted to know if the standard licence „blog“ for $29 fits my needs (simple translation in 3 languages within the one pager).
Thank you,
Chris
Hi Agnes,
thanx for the quick reply.
Hello, you need Multilingual CMS in this case.
“You mean” ?
you need?
Oops, sorry, wrong auto-correction, yes, I wanted to say you *need*.
