I have some questions before I want to buy WPML:
With WPML, is it possible to translate image titles, descriptions, captions? I am using the plugin “portfolio-slideshow”, and would like my captions to adjust to the chosen language. With qTranslate that does not work.
WPML will let you translate the WordPress media, including image texts. You’ll be able to have the same images with different texts in each language.
I’m not 100% sure how this will work together with the Portfolio Slideshow plugin. We haven’t tested it. If the author of the other plugin is interested, we’ll be happy to test how WPML and the slideshow plugin work together.
I’m intrested in building a woocommerce shop with WPML features but i’m getting abit mixed signals about couple things.
1. Is it possible to handle 2 languages from the same screen in WordPress WooCommerce admin area?
2. Can the above thingy work with 2 diffrent urls at the same time? Like i would like to build a shop with my native language and one for english and these 2 should have diffrent urls but would like to manage them both on same admin spot.
Yes. WPML lets you create multilingual sites with WooCommerce. In fact, we’re about to migrate our very own wpml.org to process payments with WooCommerce.
I’m not sure about the Photo Gallery plugin, but WPML can translate the media library, including image ALT, titles and captions. Sorry, but we don’t have a trial version for WPML.
I can’t log in to the support forum because I don’t have an account and I don’t know how to create an account.
If I “send” files to a translator, what format are they sent in? Is it PHP for example? Do I then reimport the files back into WordPress? I want the translator to be able to use a CAT tool on the files and not use the WordPress interface.
hi
will the translate work with the couponpress and directorypress themes?
Do you know anyone who can do it for me? only translate the theme?
Thanks
Jonatan
We haven’t tested WPML with these. Would you like to check with the authors of CouponPress and DirectoryPress? If they are interested, we’ll be very happy to review compatibility between WPML and these. You can refer them here: http://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/go-global-program/
2 Questions:
1. What would happen if at some point the wpml crew stops working on this project, and wordpress releases an update which isn’t compatible with the plugin?
Is there some way to “export” the existing translations into a wordpress install where the plugin isn’t activated?
2. how does wmpl affect site load speed?
1. WPML is required in order to display the translations. All content are already in the database on your site, but without the proper PHP, it’s not going to display. Just like WordPress itself is needed to display your current content today.
There are over 100,000 commercial sites running with WPML today. Some of them belong to pretty major organizations (like the United Nations). We are over 20 people here and it’s our business. We’re not going anywhere.
2. WPML, like any plugin, adds code to your site and will increase the amount of processing required to display content. There are various optimizations possible to minimize that load.
Thanks, sounds really good!
And can I choose to not translate certain posts? The main pages and blog posts will be translated into several languages, but some blog posts will only be available in English. Is there an easy way to do that?
Yes. You choose what to translate and what to keep untranslated. By default, only translation content will show in each language. You can use WPML’s content duplication to show untranslated content in other languages too.
Does WPML change many WP and plugin files? I’m afraid because, in that case, updating WP, plugins (including Woocommerce) could be difficult in the future.
We haven’t tested WPML with that theme. However, since WPML will create new posts for every language, there should not be any issue with the custom fields. You’ll have a different post, with its own custom fields, per language. The theme shouldn’t care about that.
Hello i’m about to buy WPML but before i’ve one more question.
i read a lot about the duplicate content function for untranslated question.
is there any possibility to auto duplicate the posts ? i mean that it’s automatically duplicating content without checking the duplicate function.
because i’m writing my posts almost from the quick press widget and there is not the “duplicate function” checkbox.
I just want to write a post in german and after publishing it it’s automatically duplicated without checking the duplicate function.
The closest we have for that is using WPML’s Translation Management module. You can select a number of posts and duplicate them together. We didn’t add an option to auto-duplicate when posting. It’s a nice idea, but not implemented right now.

Sorry, but we haven’t tested WPML with amember. Since amember works on its own DB tables, things should be fine, but we haven’t fully tested it. If you’re an amember client, want to check with them if they’re like to spend some time with us checking for cross-compatibility? Let me know if so and we’ll take it from there.
I resent your new-account email from my personal email. Can you please confirm that you received it? If you’re not seeing anything, check your SPAM box. You should see several emails from us there.
I would buy the CMS version, but I have one important question for me:
I will have the website in 4 languages (more in the future), but some categories (sections) I will have in 1 language only. Must I copy these posts in each language, or WPML show these posts in english in each language if I don’t write the text in the other languages?
WPML’s Content Duplication module can do this for you. You can mark all the content that needs to appear in different languages and WPML will synchronize it for you.
Thank you for your answer. How does it work? If I write a post in english (the language that I want for this option): Could I do it from the post edit page, or I must write the post and later I must go to that module and mark the post there?
And other question pls… Could I use WPML with multisite? I want to have 4 webs in my domain, each one in separate subdomains. Could I have 3 webs in 4 languages and 1 in one language?
You can renew your subscription and pay 50% while it’s still valid. If your subscription has subscribed, we ask for the full price again.
Our system sends a reminder email a month before the subscription expires. Then, 3 days before. It also shows a message about it in your account homepage, starting 2 months before the subscription expires.
You can edit language information. For that, go to WPML->Languages->Edit languages. There, you can change information about existing languages and create new ones.
If I have multisite with directories. Could I use WPML with subdomains?
I would have:
en.domain.com/blog1
en.domain.com/blog2
…
fr.domain.com/blog1
fr.domain.com/blog2
No, sorry. WPML will currently not support this configuration. If you’re using a multisite in directories, you can have something like:
domain.com/blog1/
domain.com/blog1/es/
domain.com/blog1/fr/
Hi,
I´m admin a page with theme designed in artisteer. Have you had any incompatibility issues with themes designed in artisteer? (It sort of rewrites all code…)
We have a translation plugin installed right now and it is giving us quite a headache…
Hi, I had purchased WPML a while back and my subscription has expired. I’m considering purchasing it again but I wonder if it’s possible to get the upgrade pricing? I’ll certainly sign up again if this is the case!
I’m sorry, but we can only sell the renewals (at 50% discount) while your subscription is valid. Once it’s expired, we have no mechanism for renewing at that rate.
Hi,
I’m currently devoloping a web site in 3 different languages with a lot of custom fields, (I’m using “Advanced Custom Fields” plugin).
Does WPML translate both keys and values of the custom fields?
WPML will translate only the value. You can create a new set of custom fields that have another key, but this will probably be a lot of work to define and maintain. Fields have labels, which you CAN translate with WPML.
Types is fully integrated with WPML and will let you translate fields and their titles very easily. ACF and WPML also work fine together, but the integration is not that tight.
I’m currently building a website using MayaShop (WooCommerce) on which we will be selling scarves for a non-profit charity: http://www.iwenunako.com/shop. I will be the one managing the website and the online store, and I’m not an expert!!!
I want the website to be available both in English and in French.
WooCommerce 1.7.x will include everything needed for WPML, so that patched version will not be required. We’re working together to have that version out ASAP.

Is it possible to have translated slugs for the same page?
For instance: http://www.wpml.com/thisisapage (English) and http://www.wpml.com/ditiseenpagina (Dutch) ?
Is it easy to make a language chooser that looks like this:
NL | EN | FR | DE
(instead of the custom-language-chooser)?
Thanks!

And also yes. You can put different languages in different URLs. Have a look here for the server setup:

Does it work with Photo Gallery Plugin with Captions?
Also do you have a link to download trial version?
Thanks,
Ruchi

You can send WordPress content to translation via desktop programs. In that case, WPML will export XLIFF files and send to your translators.
Is WPML compatible with the Modernize theme?
Can I ensure the subscribers receiving the RSS feed or email subscription of their own selected language with WPML (blog or CMS)?
WPML will generate RSS feeds per language. Both the Blog and CMS versions do that.

WPML doesn’t modify any file in any theme or plugin.
Great. Will buy my version soon 😉
I have a question before I purchase this products.
Does WPML products support Grizzly template?
http://themeforest.net/item/grizzly-responsive-app-showcase-corporate/1546240
I’d like to translate original custom fields in this template.
Thanks
We haven’t tested WPML with that theme. However, since WPML will create new posts for every language, there should not be any issue with the custom fields. You’ll have a different post, with its own custom fields, per language. The theme shouldn’t care about that.

Hi,
I would like to know before buying your product, if there’s any known issue betweet WPML and amember membership script, thank you

You have controls to duplicate the content in both the post-edit and in WPML’s central Translation Management. See here:
http://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/displaying-untranslated-content-using-content-duplication/
Sometimes it’s easier to duplicate the content as you’re editing and sometimes it’s easier to do it in batch, for many posts together.
Thanks again. Other question, please: Is each language one directory, one subdomain or pages like index.php?lang=en?
And other question pls… Could I use WPML with multisite? I want to have 4 webs in my domain, each one in separate subdomains. Could I have 3 webs in 4 languages and 1 in one language?
I came in today to download an update, and I saw that my subscription had expired in April.
Info on the site says that subscription can be renewed for 50 % the following years, but I can only get it to give me the $ 79 price.
What am I doing wrong?
You can renew your subscription and pay 50% while it’s still valid. If your subscription has subscribed, we ask for the full price again.
Our system sends a reminder email a month before the subscription expires. Then, 3 days before. It also shows a message about it in your account homepage, starting 2 months before the subscription expires.
I was about to ask, why you hadn’t sent any reminders. At least I haven’t received any.
Hi I wanted to find out if I could change exact words for a particular language ?
Or if you don’t have my native language could I set up a complete new language ?
You can edit language information. For that, go to WPML->Languages->Edit languages. There, you can change information about existing languages and create new ones.
Hi,
Qtranslate has the option “Detect the language of the browser and redirect accordingly. “. Has this option or similar wpml?
Thank you.
WPML includes browser language detection.
Hi there,
Do you have any compatible way of making a static site with with this plugin?
I’ve tried several multi-lingual but when I convert them to static they all fail…
Thanks
What do you mean a static site? Can you give an example of what you are trying to achieve?
If I have multisite with directories. Could I use WPML with subdomains?
I would have:
en.domain.com/blog1
en.domain.com/blog2
…
fr.domain.com/blog1
fr.domain.com/blog2
Is it possible with WPML?
No, sorry. WPML will currently not support this configuration. If you’re using a multisite in directories, you can have something like:
domain.com/blog1/
domain.com/blog1/es/
domain.com/blog1/fr/
domain.com/blog2/
domain.com/blog2/es/
domain.com/blog2/fr/
Sorry, but i don’t understand the difference between the multilingual cms and multilingual blog
Have a look here:
http://wpml.org/documentation/wpml-core-and-add-on-plugins/
It explains what’s included in the basic ‘blog’ package and what’s also included in the full CMS package.
another question: where i send press inquiry?
Hi,

We have a translation plugin installed right now and it is giving us quite a headache…
Sometimes people ask, but we never got any reports about working / not working. We’re not using Artiseer ourselves, so we don’t really know.
If the Artiseer folks can spare a bit of time, we’ll be very happy to check compatibility with them together.

I’m sorry, but we can only sell the renewals (at 50% discount) while your subscription is valid. Once it’s expired, we have no mechanism for renewing at that rate.
Oh if it’s just about the mechanism we can do a request for payment from Paypal and it’ll be a done deal?
Hi,
I’m currently devoloping a web site in 3 different languages with a lot of custom fields, (I’m using “Advanced Custom Fields” plugin).

WPML will translate only the value. You can create a new set of custom fields that have another key, but this will probably be a lot of work to define and maintain. Fields have labels, which you CAN translate with WPML.
You might be interested to know that we offer our own custom fields plugin, called Types:
https://toolset.com/home/types-manage-post-types-taxonomy-and-custom-fields/
Types is fully integrated with WPML and will let you translate fields and their titles very easily. ACF and WPML also work fine together, but the integration is not that tight.
Thanks a lot.

We’re working closely with WooCommerce team to ensure compatibility between WPML and WooCommerce. For now, you should use our patched version of WooCommerce plugin. You can get it from here:
http://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/woocommerce-multilingual/
WooCommerce 1.7.x will include everything needed for WPML, so that patched version will not be required. We’re working together to have that version out ASAP.
