I used your WPML with a client that had your plugin and I was able to download xliff files and translated them with Memoq. Uploaded and everything worked well it was WPML 2.6.0
I recommended your WPML pluging to another client and I cannot extract xliff files with 2.6.2 version. I am using the “Translations queue” option since the sending xliff to the translators is not working, not sending any email or email with attachement.
“There might be a bug related to our XLIFF plugin for WP 3.5. We’re going to check this very soon and update the plugin.”
So I understand from your response that WPML – XLIFF plugin for WP 3.5 is not working sending xliff attachment in email neither extracting Xliff files from the “Translations queue”.
Please indicate alternative to work with CAT Tools and WPML
I’m not sure what specific problem you’re having, but we’re going to get to the bottom of it. I just sent you an introduction email to WPML’s lead developer. Mihai will help you with this and make sure that our XLIFF module is fully working for you. You don’t need to look for any alternatives.
WPML will let you run sites in Farsi and English, but it will not translate for you. With WPML, you can translate yourself or get work from professional translators.
Hi, with you plugin – can I make single Posts available in multiple languages while keeping others at a ..kind of “main” language?
I’m looking for something that displays “This post is also available in …” links somewhere in posts I chose to write in multiple languages. Not in the other ones.
You can tell WPML to display untranslated blog posts in all languages. When translation is available, it will display instead of the default language. Is this what you have in mind?
My license for multilingual cms has expired since June 2012. When I tried to resubscribe I don’t see reduction in price (as told 50% reduction for following years).
I sent a support ticket long before X-mas but I have not got response. Please help and thanks.
You can renew your account for 50% cost while it’s still valid. We send two notification emails explaining this. After the account expires, you can buy again at any time, for the full amount.
I want to build a website using WordPress, but I don’t build website for clients, just for me and just one site. So do I need buy the Multilingual blog or cms?
Maybe I just don’t understand well english. In this case I’m sorry for it, but it’s not clear to me which kind of license I need buy. It seems the Multilingual Blog doesn’t work with WordPress, but the Multilingual Cms is just for a professional use. That’s why my question…
Both versions are equally good for developers and end-users. The difference is only in the content of the packages. The Blog package includes only the base WPML plugin. The complete CMS package includes all the add-ons. Have a look here for the complete description: http://wpml.org/documentation/wpml-core-and-add-on-plugins/
Hello
Can I use this plugin in a way that I can switch the orientation of the text and blocs to fit the right to left languages !!
I mean i don’t want ust the text to be translated i need the theme orientation to be switched to a right to left look as well .. is this possible ?
WPML sets the language locale when you switch language. To change the orientation in page layout, you should add some code to you theme. Have a look at what we did for our own site when adding Hebrew: http://wpml.org/2011/12/adding-rtl-support-for-theme/
Hi, i’ve read carefully this website and seems you’re my only viable option but, before purchasing, i want to be 100% sure.
My website is going to be in two languages (italian, english), I will write all the content in both language so i don’t need automatic translation.
What I need is this structure: http://www.site.com/it/cat1IT/cat2IT/blog-post-nameIT http://www.site.com/en/cat1EN/cat2EN/blog-post-nameEN
It’s a travel site so think of the categories as nations and city names, written either in english or in italian.
And possibly, whenever the same post is written in both language, I would like the possibility to have some “go to the other language” button that sends the user to the same article in the other language.
It WPML can do this I’m gonna get it straight away! thanks 🙂
Yes, you can this.
There’s an option to add a link “This post is also available in: Italian” (wording can be configured too) either at the bottom or top of the posts.
i am thinking to buy wpml but i have few doubts , we are thinking to use wpml with woocommerce .
1)how many types of currencies will it support in multiple currencies
2) our web site needs to be translated to more then 35 languages is it possible to use machine translation or is it mandatory to use professional service . there are about 10k products so we prefer machine translation
3) if you have the feature of machine translation how dood it is compared to google translate is there any possibility to use google translation automatically for machine tranlsation.
4) will the seo data of the products automatically converted and is possible to set languages per categories instead of entire site .
1) 1 currency per language (theres no currency switcher, the currency changes when you switch language)
2) WPML offers either manual translation or professional translation. You can use machine translations from external sources and add them in manually or automatically via XMLRPC or other publishing tools
3) WPML does not include machine translation.
4) Yes, the categories are translated too. The SEO data can be translated too.
2) WPML offers either manual translation or professional translation. You can use machine translations from external sources and add them in manually or automatically via XMLRPC or other publishing tools
is it possible to integrate google translate or qtranslate with out any programing language with wpml for machine translation . i have absolutely no idea about xmlrpc
We are considering WPML to translate our website in other languages.
1. We developed our own theme. Does WPML work with custom themes?
2. We want to have the foreign language site(s) to have a different look (such as colors, graphics and fonts). Is this possible with WPML and how can we do it?
3. From what your documentation says, WPML allows our own translation to be added in the web pages. We want to do it that way. Please confirm if this is correct.
1. Yes – as long as the custom theme uses standard WP API functions.
2. Yes – you can load different stylesheets based on the current language (with custom code in your theme)
3. Yes – you can either translate yourself all the content OR use professional translation from ICanLocalize (or both)
Hi
I am starting to build a website in wordpress (moving from joomla to wordpress)and i was wandering
if i do purchase the Multilingual Blog license will i be able to use it in case i re-install my website? use it maybe on two different website that i own…..
I have paid for a Multilingual CMS through PayPal but didn’t receive any account information. I have tried ”Recover password” but the system doesn’t seem to recognize any of my e-mail addresses.
Please reply by e-mail and I will send a confirmation of the PayPay transaction.
You should check your bulk folder as well for the account confirmation.
Also – you should be able to reset your password (your account was created and is active).
You need to provide the username in the password recovery process: ollebergman
Hello,
I’ve heard there are issues with WPML with any site that uses ajax. That because the domains are slightly different (even if they’re virtual domains) ,browsers won’t load ajax from a different url than the one the user is currently viewing (even if only slightly different).
Is this true or has it been fixed? I’m asking this because I’m looking to use a specific template that uses ajax throughout.
What you’re describing sounds like a bug and not like a planned feature. Generally speaking, we make sure that all bugs are handled quickly. We also work closely with theme developers, to check and resolve compatibility issues.
Previously I had installed WPML on a Artisteer generated theme and it was not working some year ago. I am now running a website at http://www.swedcham.eu and would like to get a recommendation on which version of WPML should I use if that would work with an Artisteer generated theme.
Thank you!
I embedded the language switcher on the homepage of the website by using the widget function. But if I switch to another language, I cannot switch back to the original language. This might be related tho the url of the page. I used a page as a static front page. Then WordPress removes the slug. All the other pages are working fine.
I’m running an English multisite network focused on an immigrant community and I’d like to add a bilingual business directory site (English/Portuguese) AND a classifieds site entirely in Portuguese. I know WMPL would allow me to do the former, but would it allow me to do the latter? Can I translate the menus, pages etc. into Portuguese and just leave it all in Portuguese without giving users the option to translate that site into English?
I was wondering if it is possible to change the URL that is being generated by the directories URL format. I have a client who’s switching from their own system to wordpress (due to it being easier to manage in the long run and requires less time in terms of introduction to the platform for new writers).
However, in order to make their current links around blogs and other websites, the URL has to be identical as well.
post-id in their system would probably be equivalent to the “translation group” id in WPML (as in, the ID that tells the admin interface which translations belong to which original post).
So a sample URL using the above could like this today:
Is it possible to change it so that the URL looks identical to my client’s current pattern using WMPL? Or will I need to look at some other translation plug-in (alternatively code my own)?
I am guessing not, as the original website is not based on WordPress but a self-built Ruby on Rails site. From what I understand it changes broken wordpress links in the database to the new, correct, URL. Or am I wrong?
Also, as per the client’s request, the URLs need to have the same format as before (as in, they should be identical instead of redirect).
Hi!
I have some questions about WPML before I buy it.
– I want to use 2 languages: English and Italian. English as the first language and Italian as the second language. If I wanted to change, and put Italian as the first language and English as the second language could I do it? And If I decided not to update wpml next year or to uninstall would my wordpress be in English or In Italian?
– Then is WPML compatible with this theme from Mojo Themes? Here you are the link http://www.mojo-themes.com/item/e-style-a-fashion-wordpress-theme/
Thanks you. Last question, if the theme is not in the list you sent me does it mean that it doesn’t work? I’m asking that cause I bought the theme but I wanted to install wpml!
Thank you so much! Just the last question…if I install WPML, I use 2 languages, English and Italian, but after a year I want to unistall WPML, can I transfer all the part in Italian (articles, categories, comments, etc…) in another domain to create another site in Italian with those articles in Italian?
Yes, you can do that. You’ll need to do some tiny edits to the theme’s PHP files. You can use WPML’s language constant to check the current language and display different output based on the language.
WPML works great with Headway, but we would probably need to check extensions separately. We’re happy to do that. If the authors of these extensions can check compatibility with us, we can do that very quickly.
I plan to use Woo Canvas and their subscription commerce system. I have over 500 blog items and I have figured out how to import the english version into wp. I have translation to 8 languages already done. I plan to buy the WPML CMS version as I want the complete interface translated.
Will WPML work seamless with woocommerce, if the user has switched to German and the whole site is now in german, will their purchase also be in german?
Is there a plugin or other method to import all the different translations into wpml?
When the user switches to Italian will all the posts now be defaulted to Italian or do they have to manually switch as they read?
Can you tell me how the data for the other languages is stored? Is my programmer able to access this information and have wp tables been modified or are the auxiliary tables?
WPML works great with Canvas theme and WooCommerce plugin.
You can translate products and every text during the checkout process.
The easiest way to import translations would be via WPML’s Translation Management module. I’m not sure how your translations are organized today, so I can’t tell exactly how to import it.
Language switching is global. When visitors select their language, that language selection should persist for all the site’s content. This includes posts, pages and products.
And finally, WPML stores different translations in different posts. It’s all in the standard WordPress posts table. WPML creates its own tables for languages, which are joined to the standard posts and taxonomy tables.
I am with a group in Japan that is exploring the roll-out of a series of sites using WordPress, some specialised themes, and WPML. I need some help to clarify something before hitting the purchase and go button. Given that everything needs to be in English, Japanese and potentially other languages, I really need some help understanding if I am going down a blind alley.
We want to use AppThemes JobRoller, Classipress, Vantage and Ideas. I have contacted this company regarding their current level of support for WPML and received the following in reply:
“AppThemes does not officially support third party plugins so unfortunately we cannot guarantee that the WPML plugin will work correctly “out of the box” with any of our themes. We have spent some time working with the developers of the plugin in order to try and resolve this, but there were still some issues with functionality which were not fully resolved. Thanks.”
Can your team help me to understand whether these are red line issues, or something that can be realistically contracted out to one of your support partners for fixing, or done on our end? The “some issues with functionality which were not fully resolved” is too vague for us to bet this project on.
We also tried working with the developers from AppThemes. We reported some issues to them and suggested different solutions but they vanished on us. I guess that multilingual functionality is not top on their priority list. What they are actually telling you is that it’s not going to work. We would be very happy to resume this work with them. We have the manpower and know-how to make their themes run fine with WPML. However, it really needs their cooperation to succeed.
I’m not sure how feasible alternatives are for you. If you are only getting started with the development process, it might be worthwhile looking at different options.
You are welcome to look at our Toolset family of plugins: https://toolset.com
You might be able to build all this functionality, yourself, using our Types, Views and CRED plugin. If this is relevant for you, we would do everything we can to support you.
If you are already committed to the themes from AppThemes, it might be best for you to install different WordPress sites per language (or a multisite install). This would be a pain to manage, but will not suffer from any bugs.
It is certainly food for thought that the AppThemes technology do not support WPML. I understand why you also cannot invest time in helping people like me customise the theme on a case-by-case basis. It appears that the only way forward is for the AppThemes developers to collaborate with you to ensure WPML support for all customers.
Your suggestion regarding Types, Views and CRED is quite daunting, but I am seriously considering it. As far as I can tell, one key advantage would be that the finished system would be assured to work with the standard WordPress API and play nice with WPML. Another advantage is that it would be a lot lighter than using other providers general purpose solutions, and therefore be both faster and easier to adapt.
At its most basic, for example in creating a free classified advertising section, it appears quite straightforward. I would need a theme that works with WPML (for example the free Responsive WordPress theme from ThemeID), and then I would use Types to create a taxonomy for classified sections and Views to help display them. I could use CRED to create user forms to add new classified adverts. The process is pretty well-documented on your site. When I get a little lost is when it comes to premium services such as paid listings.
Let’s say we wanted that for a paid event listing or a paid place listing. In such a case, we would create the respective taxonomy with Types and Views, and we would proceed towards CRED for the user form. While the CRED documentation makes reference to a situation where users “might be required to pay” for a listing, I can’t see any actual documentation showing how this would be done in practice. Perhaps I missed it? The same page makes reference to “a complete set of hooks […] you’ll see how we use these hooks to process certain ads for payment.” Yet the documentation includes no links to this, and the CRED main documentation only covers non-payment forms (see https://toolset.com/documentation/user-guides/using-cred-to-create-and-edit-content-from-front-pages/).
In much the same vein, it is also very important that we can always include user reviews about stuff. It might be about places. It might be about events. Essentially, we need to be able to add user reviews about virtually anything. In theory it appears your Toolset can pretty neatly do this too. For example, here you show how to make a book review (https://toolset.com/documentation/user-guides/cred-forms-for-child-content/). What I am missing is how precisely this book review would then be displayed at the bottom of the parent book page, along all the other reviews of the same book. The reason I am missing this is probably very simple and related to my IQ, but nevertheless it is one of those important questions as I consider moving forward.
I realize that these are hefty pre-sale questions. However, I am sure you can understand that if we invest in your technology (potentially spanning WPML and Toolset), we will be here for the long-haul. We need to kick the tires and really understand if this can build the multi-language, multi-service architecture needed. Thank you so much in advance for your help.
I should add that if my second question requires a little time to explain, I am happy to pay for that. I just really, really need a little help to make a decision regarding investment in the infrastructure we will build on.
I was just wondering how WPML handles pages or posts that are not translated (completely). Take, for example, a site with English and German, English being the default language. What would happen if a visitor tries to switch the language to German on a page/post that has no German translation? Would they just see the English page/post (duplicate content 🙁 …) or would they be redirected back to the English version (e.g. the English domain in a domain-per-language setup) if switching was even possible?
You choose what happens. You can either have the same content appear in all language or have the English content appear only in English.
To get the same content in different languages, you can use WPML’s Content Duplication feature. This really does duplicate the content, but it does so in a smart way:
1. WPML will duplicate and synchronize the post data and custom fields.
2. You can detach the original and duplicates and send to real translation.
3. While duplicated, WPML includes the meta canonical links to tell Google that this is intended duplication and to point to the original source. This way, Google doesn’t think that you’re trying to trick it and it indexes only the source of the text.

There might be a bug related to our XLIFF plugin for WP 3.5. We’re going to check this very soon and update the plugin.
Amir, Thank you for your answer:
“There might be a bug related to our XLIFF plugin for WP 3.5. We’re going to check this very soon and update the plugin.”
So I understand from your response that WPML – XLIFF plugin for WP 3.5 is not working sending xliff attachment in email neither extracting Xliff files from the “Translations queue”.
Please indicate alternative to work with CAT Tools and WPML
Thanks
I’m not sure what specific problem you’re having, but we’re going to get to the bottom of it. I just sent you an introduction email to WPML’s lead developer. Mihai will help you with this and make sure that our XLIFF module is fully working for you. You don’t need to look for any alternatives.
Hi,
if i buy the Multilingual blog and i need the Multilingual cms then, can i get a upgrade from blog to cms version?

Sure. You can always upgrade and pay only the difference.
Hi there do you provide widgets for translation from and to Farsi please? We are looking for an alternative to Google translate which is awful.

However, if your thems is not in there, you should check on the forum for more information http://forum.wpml.org

Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible to change the URL that is being generated by the directories URL format. I have a client who’s switching from their own system to wordpress (due to it being easier to manage in the long run and requires less time in terms of introduction to the platform for new writers).
However, in order to make their current links around blogs and other websites, the URL has to be identical as well.
The URL is currently in the following format:
http://www.example.com/post/%5Blanguage-code%5D/%5Bpost-id%5D/%5Bslug%5D.html
post-id in their system would probably be equivalent to the “translation group” id in WPML (as in, the ID that tells the admin interface which translations belong to which original post).
So a sample URL using the above could like this today:
http://www.example.com/post/jp/35789/hello+world.html
However, from what I understand it, WPML will automatically set it to:
http://www.example.com/jp/post/hello-world (depending on how wordpress is setup I assume).
Is it possible to change it so that the URL looks identical to my client’s current pattern using WMPL? Or will I need to look at some other translation plug-in (alternatively code my own)?
WPML’s Sticky Links feature should do what you’re describing. Have a look here:
http://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/sticky-links/
I am guessing not, as the original website is not based on WordPress but a self-built Ruby on Rails site. From what I understand it changes broken wordpress links in the database to the new, correct, URL. Or am I wrong?
Also, as per the client’s request, the URLs need to have the same format as before (as in, they should be identical instead of redirect).
Hello. Please tell me can i translate all the navigation of the front-end of my website with “Multilingual blog” version of WPML?
Yes. The basic Blog version includes menu translation.
Thanks.

Hi Maria,
Yes, you can switch between languages.
When you uninstall ALL of your posts remain in the database. The urls for the second language might change.

Thanks you. Last question, if the theme is not in the list you sent me does it mean that it doesn’t work? I’m asking that cause I bought the theme but I wanted to install wpml!
No it doesn’t. It just means that’s not been tested.
It’s likely that it will work just fine.
Thank you so much! Just the last question…if I install WPML, I use 2 languages, English and Italian, but after a year I want to unistall WPML, can I transfer all the part in Italian (articles, categories, comments, etc…) in another domain to create another site in Italian with those articles in Italian?
can i change the logo, widget, and domain name for each language site?
Yes, you can do that. You’ll need to do some tiny edits to the theme’s PHP files. You can use WPML’s language constant to check the current language and display different output based on the language.
Hi!
Does WPML plugin also work with the Headway Theme extension blocks (third party extensions)?
Thanks
WPML works great with Canvas theme and WooCommerce plugin.
You can translate products and every text during the checkout process.
The easiest way to import translations would be via WPML’s Translation Management module. I’m not sure how your translations are organized today, so I can’t tell exactly how to import it.
Language switching is global. When visitors select their language, that language selection should persist for all the site’s content. This includes posts, pages and products.
And finally, WPML stores different translations in different posts. It’s all in the standard WordPress posts table. WPML creates its own tables for languages, which are joined to the standard posts and taxonomy tables.
thanks,
can you give me an idea how the posts should be organized so import using the translation management module is possible?
Also is the import process automated, that is if I have the data organized properly will it import all the posts in all the languages in one pass?
thanks again

You are welcome to look at our Toolset family of plugins:
https://toolset.com
You might be able to build all this functionality, yourself, using our Types, Views and CRED plugin. If this is relevant for you, we would do everything we can to support you.
If you are already committed to the themes from AppThemes, it might be best for you to install different WordPress sites per language (or a multisite install). This would be a pain to manage, but will not suffer from any bugs.
Hi Amir
Shane
Sorry for being slow to respond. I replied to the same question (which I realize you posted because I was so slow), in wp-types.com forum:

I should add that if my second question requires a little time to explain, I am happy to pay for that. I just really, really need a little help to make a decision regarding investment in the infrastructure we will build on.
Hi,
I was just wondering how WPML handles pages or posts that are not translated (completely).
Thanks in advance,
Tim
You choose what happens. You can either have the same content appear in all language or have the English content appear only in English.
To get the same content in different languages, you can use WPML’s Content Duplication feature. This really does duplicate the content, but it does so in a smart way:
1. WPML will duplicate and synchronize the post data and custom fields.
2. You can detach the original and duplicates and send to real translation.
3. While duplicated, WPML includes the meta canonical links to tell Google that this is intended duplication and to point to the original source. This way, Google doesn’t think that you’re trying to trick it and it indexes only the source of the text.
Does this make sense?
Yes, it does make sense. Thank you.
