  1. Good Afternoon,

I’m building a web store in Slovakia using Woothems and woocommerce plug in.

I’m not a Slovak native and don’t speak the language. I was thinking to use WPML to fully translate my front page including plugins (woocommerce mainly) .

Could anyone advise is this is the best solution and if Slovak language is available?

    Many Thanks

    • I’m not sure that WooCommerce is actually translated to Slovak. This means that you will need to translate some of the texts to Slovak yourself.

We also have a translation service, which you can consider, if you need help with professional translation for any of your site’s content.

  2. Hi: How does WPML work with language specific keyboards? If I am running a site with English & French, will WPML identify which language the user is running on their PC and render a French site (for example)?

    • The keyboard is something that’s handled by the operating system. WPML lets you maintain different languages in the same site. If you switch the keyboard between English and French (as you type), you will be able to insert the French accents and special characters without problems.

  3. I feel like I’m missing something very basic here about how this plugin works. Assuming that I want something beyond the normal Google translation – how do things get translated? Content files get sent to people for translation – through the plugin? By the site admin? Who pays them? Is there a basic “how this works” document that I missed?

Is the $79 for all time? Do I need to renew each year for support?
I look forward to your response.
    Thanks

    • WPML doesn’t do the translation for your site. It’s a tool that lets you run multilingual sites with content that you produce (or translate). It also lets you connect with translation services. Have a look here for different ways you can translate with WPML:
      http://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/

With your purchase ($79), you receive support and upgrades for a year. To renew support and upgrades, we ask for $39 for every next year. If you decide not to renew, nothing will stop working for you. The plugin doesn’t just stop working by itself. You will not be able to get support and upgrades, but your sites will continue running with the older versions.

  4. Question, I want a splash page that says French or English. Can I use this to translate it? Ie, I click French and the complete menu is in french? What I see in the examples are you go to a site that defaults to 1 langauge, then you can select another in the top bar or something. Please clarify.

    • You should be able to create that splash page. I’m not sure how you want it to look, but it’s pretty easy to make your homepage include just two links, one to English and another one to French.

Note that this way of choosing language will most likely block search engines from seeing anything in your site. They will see just that welcome page and might not be able to index the real content.

  5. I am working on Avada theme and I wan’t to buy your plugin full cms. I am interested can your plugin put languages above header and not in the footer or can it be put in the header because my client want flags above header or in the header

    • Sorry for the late reply. You should be able to place WPML’s language switcher anywhere in the theme. For what you’re describing, I think that you’ll have to slightly edit the theme’s code. I don’t know if Avada comes with a widget zone or hooks for this area. If so, you may be able to use them. Otherwise, you can do a tiny edit in the theme’s header file and insert WPML’s language switcher using a single line of PHP.

      Does this help?

  6. i’ve been googling about Post for pages and multilingual sites managed with WPML with no lucky.

Is there any compatibility problem using Post for Pages and WPLM plugin?

    Thanks in advance

      • It’s not the same.
Post for pages shows a post extract (first 50 words, with or wothout images) based on categories.

Time ago working with similar plugin and qtranslate my problem was that always extracts were showed in only the first language available. (I think qtranslate stores all languages in the same post)

WPML works the same way or are post completely independent and this plugin can filter them according to the language and categorie?

I think if differents languages per post are stored independenly it might work.

Thanks again a sorry for my bad english

  7. Hi — I just emailed in a question via regarding a purchase that was charged at PayPal, but that I did not receive any login/download information at wpml.org.

I tried resetting my password–but a login was never created to allow me to get that far.

And give that I see these two numbers on the contact and refunds pages, I’m skeptical about those methods of contact.

    http://wpml.org/home/contact-us/
We are handling request #1244 now. There are 1912 requests in the queue.

    http://wpml.org/purchase/refunds-policy/
We are handling request #650 now. There are 724 requests in the queue.

Please email the email associated with this comment and I’ll provide the Paypal receipt number.

    Thanks.

    • Sorry for the delay. Our normal admin was away for a few days and her replacement didn’t mark granted refunds correctly in our system. The refunds were made, but not marked as such in our contact form. As a result, that counter seems stuck.

I’m checking on your refund request right now and will make sure that it gets processes very quickly. Have you submitted a refund request here?
      http://wpml.org/purchase/refunds-policy/

If not, please do it now, so that our admin gets your request and can process it. I’m assuming that you want to cancel your WPML order. If you only need to get your password reset, let me know and I’ll help with this.

      Thanks

      • Sorry about the delay in processing your order. The entire thing is automated. Sometimes, we get the PayPal (or Google Wallet) notifications a little late, due to their backlog in sending out these notifications. It’s fairly rare and we’re doing our best to optimize that process. I’m glad to see that you’re all set.

  8. I use my wordpress cms everyday and have downloaded plugins on the wordpress site however I would like to buy your download from your website but I do not know how to bring that into my wordpress .
Probably very easy but I have no idea

    • When you buy plugins from sites other than WordPress.org, you may need to install them manually. Have a look at this page for how to install WPML:
      http://wpml.org/faq/install-wpml/

This page is a bit long because it describes two options to install. One, manual and the other automated, using our Installer plugin.

      Does this help?

  9. We set up our site with English and Hebrew using qtranslate. But it’s very buggy, not really supported, and very slow.

Is there an easy way to transition from qtranslate to WMPL? Will the translated posts remain intact? The tags/categories?

    Thanks

  10. Hi, i’m luca from torino italy, i would like to buy wpml and install it and configure on the site i indicate before, but i think it is better first for me to understad better the functionality and learn it on my local dev/test web site. So is it possibile to buy/download/configure on two sites, the local and next on the production ? thanks luca

    • Certainly. When you buy WPML, you can use it on as many sites as you need. Almost all WPML clients are website developers. They develop and test sites locally and then go live on other servers.

  11. Hi, I am interested on purchasing WPML but first I have a question, I need to translate my site from english to spanish, my site has the classipress theme and I know that WPML is compatible with the theme, Can I translate my site myself? I can translate my site from english to spanish but I don´t know anything about coding etc. I need to translate my site to spanish because the theme comes in english, I only need my site to be in spanish.

With WPML I am going to be able to translate all my site?.
    THANKS.

    • Yes, you can translate everything in the site yourself and you don’t have to write any PHP for that.

If you want to run a site in English and Spanish, you should use WPML. To just use ClassiPress in Spanish (not bi-lingual), you don’t need WPML. You should change the language setting in the wp-config.php file or use our other free plugin – WordPress Language:
      wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-language/

Again, if you want to run a multilingual site, WPML is for you.

      • Hi, I have installed the plugin but I don´t know why my site its half translate, some parts are still in english, like the post an add button, the space for what are you looking for etc.

        • What you are describing sounds like a compatibility issue with your theme. Have you asked about it in our support forum?

Our developers will need to know more about the theme and see details about what’s not being translated in your site. There’s a chance that we would need to work on this with your theme’s developer too.

  12. Hi I’ve got a question about free upgrade during one year.. after this period should I buy a new complete licence again or is there a different price just for updates ?

thanks a lot for your answer.

    • You will need the full CMS version, which includes the String Translation module. That module is required to translate some WooCommerce attributes and global texts.

  13. When using WPML, is it possible to have a mix of country specific domains (ex: for Turkey and Brazil) and subdomains? We were considering using subdomains/folders for most of the countries we’re targeting (Spanish speaking Latin America & Arabic speaking Middle East), and then for the two countries that have their own language (Turkey, Brazil) doing a targeted country URL and potentially local web hosting too.

    • Right now, WPML is not able to mix between languages in domains and directories. If you configure the site to use domains, all languages will be in domains. You can add country variants, so you can have something like:
      es_ES.site.com
      es_mx.site.com

      Does this help?

  14. Hi,

if I use WPML on our blog, is there any chance that I can user our aweber.com newsletter for two languages?

Actually with qtranslate the signup is only possible for one fixed language.

What I would like to have is a choice for the user to select the language for his newsletter.
Do you offer any kind of support for aweber.com plugin?

    Joe

    • Since WPML maintains different languages in different posts, you should be able to run different mailing lists too.

You can easily create several aweber lists and display the signup for each on the content of a different language. You can also get RSS feeds per language and everything else.

I’m not 100% sure what the aweber plugin does. If aweber developers are interested, we will be very happy to explore this with them.

      Is this what you mean?

  15. I want to integrate your plugin to my new Punjabi news channel website , content can be in Three different languages i.e. Punjabi, Hindi and English . Does your plugin help me out with a comfortable solution?

    • Sounds like WPML is exactly for you. You should be able to write news in all 3 languages. WPML comes pre-configured with your languages, so it’s going to be fairly easy to make your site multilingual.

    • Sorry for the late reply. We haven’t tested WPML with Azure, so I can’t tell for sure. We would be happy to test for compatibility together with the theme author.

  16. Hi!
Just a question: I have multiple users of different countries and I want to build a single installation of wordpress 3.5, but each user should be access to a wp-admin pannel written in his language. So I ask you: is it possible with WPML? can WPML support different wp-admin interface translated?
    Thanks in advance.
    Cristina Lancioni.

  17. I must ask here, cannot access to forum.

In Serbian language there is two alphabet: Cyrillic and Latin. As I can see from various tutorials for WMPL there is only option to select existing languages as Serbian or English for example. I’m wondering if there is possible to set Serbian Cyrillic, Serbian Latin and English as choices? I can accomplice that with transliteration, but then the search is working only in alphabet which is originally used for input text. When I enter page in Cyrillic, and transliterate to Latin, my search is only working properly for terms in Cyrillic not in Latin. If i could do it in WPML in any way, I will enter text in Cyrillic, Latin and English language separately and everything will be working just fine.

If that is possible, I’d gladly buy this plugin.

    • No problem, this is indeed the place to ask pre-sales questions 🙂

WPML lets you add your custom languages. You can add any language that you like, so it can be also language variants. You can add two Serbian versions and set different locales for each. You should keep the character encoding as UTF8 and then you can display any characters you choose, including Latin and Cyrillic.

      Does this help?

      • I think it does. Need to read some manual more but probably will go with WPML.

        Thank you for promptly answer.

  18. Hello there,

I’m looking to translate the site in 2 languages, Spanish and Portuguese only the site NOT backend (the admin panel or plugins etc) I want to show 2 icons for visitors to translate the site. Is this the right plugin for me?

    Thanks a lot!

    • WPML lets you add languages to the public pages. You will have the WordPress admin in your language and visitors will choose what language to read in.

Please note that WPML doesn’t translate your content. It’s a tool that lets you translate and save content in different languages.

You can read more about how you can translate content here:
      http://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/

  19. Hi,

I would like to know if WPML uses the .pot file that came with the plugin (wpjobboard) that I recently bought. Or does WPML not use .pot/.po/.mo files in the backend at all?

    Thanks,
    Marco

    • Yes. WPML will set the locale, so that your theme and plugins load the .mo files in the correct language. Furthermore, you can edit the translations yourself, from within WordPress, using WPML’s String Translation module. It too will read the initial translations from the .mo file and allow you to continue editing conveniently in the WordPress admin.
