Dear WPML Team,
We are currently looking for a multilingual plugin for websites in our company, and WPML appears to be the best choice. However, an important requirement for us is a one-time payment with a lifetime license validity—ideally covering an unlimited number of websites.
From what I understand, your plugin requires a custom installer, and it is not possible to activate the license on new websites unless the subscription is renewed annually. We do not need updates or support; we are mainly looking for a “lifetime” solution, as we maintain a large number of simple presentation websites that do not generate any significant conversions.
Would it be possible to activate a license purchased in 2025 on a new website more than a year later, without an active subscription, if we buy the Multilingual Agency package?

Unfortunately, we no longer offer lifetime licenses. All of our subscriptions are offered on a yearly renewable plan. The Agency plan will cover an unlimited number of websites.

You can do a manual installation of our plugins just like any other WordPress plugin. The OTGS Installer is there for those users who do not know how to do this and is not “required”. However, you will be required to have an active account which can allocate “site keys” on the website where the plugin will be activated so that you can configure the plugin.

I’ve checked with our systems team and what you are asking for is not possible with our current subscription options.
I hope I have been able to respond to your questions.
Can a site currently built in English be translated to Spanish, and then use the Spanish version as the primary site? To where the current site would then go behind a folder like /en/?
Hello Ethan,
Yes, that’s possible. However, it is not recommended and you may loose some translations. Something that may work better could be to install WPML and duplicate all your content to Spanish. Then, switch languages and start translating your content from English to Spanish.
Anyway, this may have effect depending on how your website is build.

Hello Timothy,
You are on the correct page. Are you logged in to your WPML account?
I’ll send you a link to a video that shows how to open a support ticket.
How our support forum works:
1. Log into your WPML account.
2. Go to the Support Forum (Main Navigation > Ask a Support Question).
3. Click Report a New Issue.
4. Select I need help using WPML.
5. Fill out the form.
If a support agent is available for live chat when you submit your issue, you’ll be connected with a technical expert in real time. Otherwise, your request will be converted into a support ticket and handled promptly—usually within a few hours. You’ll receive an email notification once our support team responds.
I am looking for a plugin that can translate the reply from a customer from their language back into English automatically when it is received in an email>? is this possible with this plugin?
Are you going to allow translations with Openai or Gemini? Maybe with our own API keys?
Their translation level is much higher (more than WPML and more than DeepL)
Hello Amit,
I’m very interested in understanding why you believe the quality of Gemini’s translations is better than that of WPML AI. I’ll send you a private email to discuss the details further or even arrange a meeting to talk about this in more depth.
We’d appreciate it if you could share the results of your testing, including specific examples where WPML AI did not meet your expectations. Please also let us know which languages you were translating from and to.
It’s worth mentioning that WPML 4.8 will introduce the ability to provide contextual information and audience details to WPML AI, which will help improve translation quality even further. This project is currently our top priority on the roadmap and is known internally as “Better Than Human Translation.”
Hello,
sorry to ask this here, but it’s the only way to contact you because the login credentials seem to be lost.
My customer runs WPML on his site, 4.4.1.0, it is registered.
I set up an identical test site, but WPML refuses to update and says
“WPML plugin cannot connect to wpml.org
WPML needs to connect to its server to check for new releases and security updates. Something in the network or security settings is preventing this. Please allow outgoing communication to wpml.org to remove this notice.”
This is probably because the test site is not registered.
Is there a way to include the test site in our licence so we can test?
2. This is probably because the test site is not registered. Is there a way to include the test site in our licence so we can test?
You are correct in that you need an active/registered site key to be able to connect with our server for updates. All of our subscription levels include multiple development site key allowances so, yes, you can include the test site with your subscription…but it will still need a site key.
Please note that you can also manually update WPML plugin just like any other WordPress plugin but, of course, you would need to download the latest versions from the Account dashboard on wpml.org.
I think your first step is to recover the account credentials. With the account credentials, you will also be able to request technical support. I hope this answer has helped you.
Hi,
im looking for a translation solution for our webshop.
It is build in WordPress with WooCommerce.
We use Elementor to design the entire website and shop parts
We use Jet Engine (for custom post types, filters etc)
I can tell WPML is integrating with DeepL, but does this solution also cover Elementor?
Is it possible to translate the entire website automaticly including WooCommerce-parts with WPML & DeepL including everything designed in Elementor?
“I can tell WPML is integrating with DeepL, but does this solution also cover Elementor?”
Answer: Yes, DeepL can translate texts that are extracted from page-builder widgets/shortcodes/elements. As long as the Elementor widgets has been “registered” as translatable by WPML, the texts it contains will be extracted and sent to the translation engine of your choice.
You asked: “Is it possible to translate the entire website automaticly including WooCommerce-parts with WPML & DeepL including everything designed in Elementor?”
Answer: In theory, yes. All Elementor widgets and layouts need to be translated first, and then all the pages that use it afterwards. If you send the pages that use untranslated Elementor components (widgets, layouts, sections, global widgets…etc) then you will see some parts of the page translated and the texts within the untranslated Elementor components still in the native language.
This “sequencing” is handled for you when you choose “Translate Everything Autmatically” mode. But most clients use the mode “Transalte what you choose”, and this sequencing can be overlooked.
With WPML, you can choose from two translation modes:
The “Translate Everything Automatically” mode translates your site’s content as you add or edit it.
The “Translate What You Choose” mode allows you to decide what to translate, and who will translate it. Choose from translating the content yourself, assigning it to individual translators, or using a translation agency.
I want to purchase the WPML plugin but I need assistance from you as the vendor with my procurement process. I need an agreement from you, and also a MNDA signed by you from my company. Please reach out to me to provide a contact person I can work with to get these items done.
Can I add a simple toggle switch to my WordPress site using the WPML plugin, that will let users choose between English and Spanish. You can see an example on this site: https://www.mobilitycu.com/
I visited your site and see that the language switching is actually done by clicking on the text strings “English” or “Español” and not necessarily by dragging the toggle button circle from side tp sode. So the “toggle” is an active language indicator while the “switcher” is hidden behind the texts.
For this reason, I would venture to say – yes, you could continue to implement this kind of “active language” indicator using custom CSS that places a similar “active language indicator” image as a separator between the language choices. e.g. conditional CSS might show one toggle image instead of another depending on the active language
To give you an idea of what I mean, the following is sample code used by a client who wanted to display a pipe/vertical bar separator between languages
.menu-item.wpml-ls-item.menu-item-wpml-ls-2-es::after {
content: "|";
position: absolute !important;
right: 0 !important;
top: 0px !important;
}
Before leaving, I would ask if a “toggle indicator” merits the cost/effor to impelment a custom CSS solution. If, for example, you were to highlight the active language in larger font or a different color…would this serve the same purpose as the toggle circle? This could be implemented “out of the box” with no CSS customization required saving both implementation time and effort.
Hope this answer helps you consider your options.
To summarise, a similar toggle indicator could be created using our WPML API or custom language switcher options but it would be an extra effort on your side to implement it.
Just some thoughts to share with you.
Kind regards
If I do not renew the subscription, will the plugin retain all its existing functionalities, or will it switch to a limited mode, like a free plugin?
In other words, will I still be able to use all the translation features — both for pages and WooCommerce products (to create new translations and edit older ones) — without limitations, or will I lose functionalities?
We understand that we will no longer receive updates if we don’t renew, but if we decide to renew later, is that possible? What is the risk of updating from very outdated versions to the latest versions upon renewing the subscription?
Hello John,
If you don’t pay for the renewal, you will lose updates and support. The translated content you have on your site will remain the same.
If you stop receiving updates from us we cannot guarantee compatibility with all other elements of your site. You can always update from any version, but the process may be different and more risky, depending on the version you last had installed.
We’re currently using Weglot on a WordPress multisite setup and looking into switching to WPML. We’ve got around 5 million words translated into German and French, and are trying to figure out which plan—Multilingual CMS or Multilingual Agency—would be the right fit for us.
A couple of questions:
– What counts as a “website”?
All our sites live under a single domain (it’s a multisite setup). If “website” refers to a domain, the CMS plan should work fine. But if it’s counted per site within the network, then we’ll need to go with Agency. Can you clarify?
– Translation credits & ownership:
One of the reasons we’re looking to switch is how Weglot handles translations—we’re paying every month for all 5 million words, even though most of that content hasn’t changed in ages. With WPML, do we only need to use credits for new translations? Once something’s translated, do we keep full access to that content without ongoing fees?
Thanks in advance! Looking forward to hearing from you.

I am exploring WPML for creating a multilingual real estate website built on the Houzez theme.
1. Have there been any major compatabilty issues encountered / reported in your Support Forum that is caused by the theme and which is still unresolved?
If yes, what is an example?
2. The Houzez theme indicate that they are compatible / integrated with WPML. However your site does not list Houzez as one of the compatble themes in your list of Recommended Themes. What’s the reason?
3. What are the minimum website hosting service technical requirements for the combined WPML and Houzez to work efficiently without impacting the user experience of the site?
1. From our end, we are listing Houzez as currently “Not Compatible” with WPML. Apparently, this downgrade happened recently (this month).
All open issues are listed at the bottom of the same page here: https://wpml.org/theme/houzez/
2. If the theme is listed as incompatible, then ususally it indicates the following:
Related to the Houzez theme, we have:
Where can I get the detail instructions on how to use WPML from the time of purchase to the live production of the site in multilanguages?
Is there a recommended workflow on how to use wpml to translate the site to 2 other languages? Where can I get details on the recommended workflow?
Hello,
Here’s a video that explains how to set up and translate a website using WPML:
While the video is tailored for Elementor users, about 90% of the recommendations can be applied to any WordPress site.
If you plan to use automatic translation, the suggested workflow is to use Translation Management, as demonstrated in the video. However, I personally recommend starting by manually translating a single page. You can do this directly from the Pages list in your WordPress admin – just click the plus icon next to the page you want to translate and see how it works for you.
Hello Valeira,
Yes, we offer a 50% discount on the WPML subscription for non-profit organizations. Please fill out this form to apply.
Please note that automatic translation requires translation credits. You will receive 90,000 free credits when you purchase WPML. If you need additional credits, they must be purchased separately. Unfortunately, there are no discounts on translation credits for non-profits.
Hello Paolo,
Thanks for your interest. Our company is registered in Hong Kong but we have a valid VAT number for EU transactions.
Is this what you mean? If not, please contact us directly on hello@wpml.org with further details.
Hello Karol,
Technically, it is possible to pay for five years in advance. However, you would need to purchase WPML for one year, then from our wpml.org switch to manual renewals (by clicking on the “Modify your renewal options” > “Cancel automatic renewal” > “Instead of automatic renewals, I want to renew manually”) and process the WPML renewal five times consecutively — our system does allow this.
Hello,
Please fill out the form I mentioned in my previous comment and wait for a response. When submitting the form, include the link to your website. The person who replies may ask for a few additional details to confirm that you represent a legitimate non-profit organization.
I’m interested in purchasing your plugin for my website, but I need to clarify one important detail first. It is essential that I continue using the Serbian Transliteration plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/serbian-transliteration/) on my site without any issues. Specifically, I need it to function properly alongside your plugin, and for its icon to remain visible in the navigation.
Could you please let me know if your plugin is fully compatible with the Serbian Transliteration plugin and whether they can work seamlessly together?
Hello,
thank you for your interest in WPML.
We never tested this plugin with WPML. I will set up a demo site that uses WPML and send you the link. You can test it yourself.
Hello Svjetlana,
I sent you a private email yesterday with the link to the demo site. I just wanted to check if you received it, as I haven’t received any confirmation and I’m wondering if it reached you.
I am reaching out regarding an issue I encountered while using the WPML translation plugin on my website. As this was my first experience managing translation credits, I mistakenly selected the “Translate the entire site” option without fully understanding its scope and implications.
As a result, the credits were used to translate 49 items, most of which are draft pages and posts that are currently not needed for translation. Additionally, there are 144 translations still pending, and now I am unable to auto-translate my actual published pages and essential content due to the depletion of credits.
I kindly request if it would be possible to revert or restore the credits used for these unintended translations, so that I can allocate them towards translating the necessary, published pages and posts.
Your assistance in resolving this would be greatly appreciated, as it would help me manage the translations correctly moving forward.
Thank you very much for your understanding and support.

Hello Andy,
Thanks for your interest. See my replies below:
1- If you use WPML as a multisite plugin it will count as one site and the CMS subscription will be enough.
https://wpml.org/documentation/support/multisite-support/
2- Once the content is translated it remains on your site and it becomes your property. We will not charge you for keeping your content translated.
Note that you will need an active (paid) subscription to keep receiving updates and support from us.

Please note that automatic translation requires translation credits. You will receive 90,000 free credits when you purchase WPML. If you need additional credits, they must be purchased separately. Unfortunately, there are no discounts on translation credits for non-profits.
Here are the available options:

Would it be possible to purchase a WPML plan in advance, for five years?
Hello Karol,
Technically, it is possible to pay for five years in advance. However, you would need to purchase WPML for one year, then from our wpml.org switch to manual renewals (by clicking on the “Modify your renewal options” > “Cancel automatic renewal” > “Instead of automatic renewals, I want to renew manually”) and process the WPML renewal five times consecutively — our system does allow this.

Thank you Agnes,

We’re happy to use it!

Hello,
Please fill out the form I mentioned in my previous comment and wait for a response. When submitting the form, include the link to your website. The person who replies may ask for a few additional details to confirm that you represent a legitimate non-profit organization.
Hello,
I’m interested in purchasing your plugin for my website, but I need to clarify one important detail first.
Thank you in advance for your response.
Best regards,
Svjetlana
Hello,
thank you for your interest in WPML.
Hello WPML Support Team,
I am reaching out regarding an issue I encountered while using the WPML translation plugin on my website.
Best regards,
Vijay Prajapati
