Hi,

Here is the ticket. To migrate, please follow these simple steps:
- Install this plugin on your site: Cloudways WordPress Migrator (https://wordpress.org/plugins/bv-cloudways-automated-migration/).
- After you activate it, you will be redirected to the migration form.
- Fill it with the information in a private reply below.
- Agree with the terms of service and click on "Migrate".
More information: hidden link
You will get an email when the migration starts and one when the migration ends.
Let me know when the migration is ready, and I will check the issue on the test site immediately.
The copy of your site will be online, but search engines won't index it (the copy), so you don't have to worry about duplicate content.

The information you share with us will be confidential. Once the problem is resolved, the details you shared with us will be deleted from our records.

Hi,

Can you please recheck the SFTP user I share above? Also, there isn't HTTP Auth Username in the information.

Hi,

Any updates on this please? I also tried to revert back to the previous version of WPML and String Translation but still the same issue occurs. When String Translation is active, CPU Usage, Physical Memory, Entry Processes and Number of Proceses all go up. PHP values are all sufficient. Same applies of WP Memory.

THanks

Hi,

I'm trying to access the Cloudways site but it still does not work, even tried to deactivate WPML plugins by changing the plugin folder name. It looks like there is something wrong there.

Can you please create a backup file and share the file with me? I will try to restore it on the local host and investigate the issue. You can use this plugin to create the backup and exclude some unnecessary folders like /wp-content/uploads/, /wp-content/cache/ ...

Hi,

After restoring your site on my local host, I see there is a workaround to fix this issue. Please follow steps below:

1. Downgrade WordPress core to 6.2.2, you can use this plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-downgrade/
2. Go to WPML > String Translation > Click on the button "Remove strings" to remove untranslated strings, and delete all strings of the domain "default".
3. Upgrade WordPress core to 6.3.
❌ IMPORTANT: Please backup your database and website before proceeding ❌

Refer documentation https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/string-translation/#deleting-strings

Look forward to your reply.
Thanks

Hi,

I deleted all strings under "default" domain.

I also updated both WordPress and WPML plugins to their latest version.

Things are better now.

2 questions please:

1. What was the exact issue? Why this issue occured only on this website? I am handling many other websites with the same setup and none had this issue.

2. Now that i delete the strings under "default" domain, won't the relevant translations be gone?

Thank you!

Hello,
upvoting this issue of WPML. For my website it is also not the first that it happened to eat 100% CPU and RAM.
This just happened today at my website but it happened around 3 months ago as well.
Seems like it happens from time to time and WPML did not fix this issue with their updates.
Other forum items referring to high CPU usage seem to be similar, where WPML plugin starts GET parameters and referring to itself endlessly.

Hi,

Currently, we don't know exactly the issue but it looks happens with WordPress 6.3. Our development team is still investigating the issue and I will update you here when I have something to share.

If you delete translated strings in the "default" domain, the translation won't display in the frontend. If you want to keep them up, please use WordPress 6.2.2.

Regarding the high usage of RAM, please try two points below and see if it helps:
1. Downgrade WordPress core to 6.2.2
2. Register your site with a new sitekey because I see it is not registered under your WPML.org account. Refer to the documentation https://wpml.org/faq/install-wpml/#register

Look forward to your reply.
Thanks

Hi,

Following steps 1 and 2 resolved the issue. But you do realise that at some point i will have to upgdate WordPress to its latest version. So, it would be great if we could find a solution to this. Also, it is extremely strange that only this specific website is having this issue.

Looking forward to your reply on this and to a solution to the issue.

Thanks!

Hi,

Unfortuantely the issue is not being resolved. I downgraded to WordPress 6.2 but the issue happened again. I now had to deactivate both WPML and String translation to reduce the physical memory.

Please advice

thank you
