Hi,

Before installing WPML, there are many images in the media library. However, after installing WPML and enable another 11 languages, other than ENglish. I find only the English post can see these images, while all posts of other languages cannot see them at all.

Why?

Hi,

thanks for contacting us.

We don't have enough information to reply to your question. Please check that Media Translation settings are all checked so that images are duplicated to all languages
https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/media-translation/#id5

Also, inside of the single posts, the option "Duplicate existing media to translation" must be checked or you won't be able to see any images on the translated posts.

In Settings > Media Translation, I see the following info "The Media Translation plugin needs to add languages to your site's media. Without this language information, existing media files will not be displayed in the WordPress admin.".

This implies to make the existing images available to all languages, I need to install Media Translation plugin.

However, in this https://wpml.org/forums/topic/wpml-media/#post-12093875, the supporter said "2. If you want to use the same images for the content in all of the languages on your site and you only want to translate the Alt Text, Caption, and Title attribute of the images, you do not need to install WPML Media Translation. You can translate such image texts automatically or in the Advanced Translation Editor with the WPML core plugin. "

So whether I should install Media Translation plugin if I want to make the existing images available to all languages?

Hello There,
Thanks for reaching out to us. I will try my best to assist you in this matter.

The media Translation plugin is very useful if you want to display a different image in a different language or want to translate the Alt text, caption, or metadata related to images. You can check this documentation(https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/media-translation/) to get more information about its use case.

Now, the message you're seeing in the Media Translation section indicates that the Language information is yet to be added for the images so that they can appear accordingly in the Frontend. Would you kindly check by following the steps mentioned below?

- Navigate to WPML > Settings and scroll down to the Media Translation.
- Select the options mentioned in this screenshot(hidden link) and click on the "Start" button.

I hope this process will enable the current images to be accessible in other languages. If you're not seeing the images even after that, then kindly make a small change in the post where the images are placed and update the post. After that, update the translation of that post as well by clicking on the update icon.

Let me know the update. I will be happy to help you if you need further assistance in this matter.

Best Regards,
Prosenjit
