This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
If you're experiencing an issue where segments that you joined in the Advanced Translation Editor are splitting again and their translations are disappearing after marking them as complete, it might be due to updates to the original content.

Solution:
We recommend using the "Join & Unjoin" feature in the Advanced Translation Editor to manage how sentences are joined. However, please note that joined segments will split again if the original content is updated. There is no setting within WPML to prevent this, as the Advanced Translation Editor operates on an external server.
For guidance on using the "Join & Unjoin" feature, please see the documentation here: https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/advanced-translation-editor/#joining-sentences

Hello! Yesterday I completed a translation on a post for one of my secondary languages. I joined all segments and went along with the translation and marked it as complete.

But when I checked today the segments was split again and their translation disappeared. Is there a reason why it does that? Why are segments that belong to the same field split to begin with? Can I disable that somewhere?

Hello,

Usually, the reason for that would be that the original content was updated.

Could this be the case?

Best regards
Andreas

I don't think so. But I checked my translations today and everything seems in order. Why are paragraphs split though? Sometimes it seems that it splits after a period, and sometimes it seems that it splits after a <p> tag. What determines a split and are there any settings for it?

The Advanced Translation Editor has a "Join & Unjoin" option and it will only work until the original content is updated again.

Guide:
https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/advanced-translation-editor/#joining-sentences

There is not any setting inside WPML for this option, as the Advanced Translation Editor runs on an external server.

Ok, I see now what the "Join & Unjoin" functionality is for. It seems to be working as expected and it was just a misunderstanding on my part on how it is supposed to work. Thank you for the information. I'll mark this as solved 🙂
