This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:

You are experiencing issues translating old posts on your site using WPML. Some translated areas are coming up empty, and you have used different methods for translating posts in the past, including the old version of WPML and Visual Composer.

Solution:

We recommend checking if the posts were translated using different editors (Classic Translation Editor, Advanced Translation Editor, or WordPress Editor). For posts translated with the Classic Translation Editor, you should continue using it for any updates or retranslations.

If you want to use the Advanced Translation Editor for new translations, ensure to deselect the option 'Use also for old translations created with the classic editor' in WPML>>Settings>>Translation Editor and save the changes after a mandatory site backup. This approach helps avoid conflicts between different translation methods and your old translations will be safe.

If this solution does not apply to your case, or if it seems outdated, we highly recommend opening a new support ticket. Please check related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verify the version of the permanent fix, and confirm that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. Hello,

I am consulting with our team for an expert opinion. This requires further testing. So please allow me to make a duplicator copy of your site using the Duplicator plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/) for debugging the issue on my local server. It will help us to troubleshoot the issue without affecting your live site.

Thank you for the permission. Our local server will always discourage Search Engines.

We made a copy of the site and debugging it further locally, and will get back to you as soon as possible. Please wait.

Hello,

We are still working on this issue. Unfortunately, the Duplicator package is not working as expected. It often shows a blank screen and fatal errors. We will test it further and get back to you as early as possible. Please wait.

Hello,

We were able to test it further in the local copy after switching to the default WordPress theme (2025). As per the database records, only one of the posts on this site is translated using Advanced Translation Editor, the rest of them are translated manually from WordPress Editor or using WPML Classic Translation Editor.

The translation for the following posts is showing as expected in local copy when we switch to Classic Translation Editor. Please check this screencast for more details - hidden link

Also, in the Advanced Translation Editor, the records show these posts' translation status as it is translating now.

Therefore it is an expected result. As we mentioned before, there are high chances of translation being missing when switching between translation mode, from Classic Editor to Advanced Editor or the default WordPress Editor. Becuase the translation workflow is totally different.

So as a workaround, you can unselect *Use also for old translations created with the classic editor* option in WPML>>Settings>>Translation Editor and save the changes (after a site backup {mandatory}). Then use Classic Translation Editor for translating the existing posts. Otherwise you have to translate all the post contents using Advanced Translation Editor.

Please refer to the attached images for more details and let us know your feedback.
