This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client translated the homepage into English and German using WPML, expecting the URLs to be nissei.nl/en and nissei.nl/de respectively. However, both URLs redirected to the original Dutch URL, nissei.nl, as did the URL nissei.nl/en/machines/, which redirected to nissei.nl/machines/.
Solution:
We identified that the redirection issue was caused by settings in the Yoast SEO plugin. We recommended checking and adjusting the redirection settings within the Yoast plugin to resolve the problem. Additionally, we advised updating WPML and its add-ons to their latest versions to ensure compatibility and functionality, especially if further investigation into the issue was required. We also emphasized the importance of making a full site backup before making any changes.

If this solution does not resolve your issue, or if it seems outdated or irrelevant to your case, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If further assistance is needed, please do not hesitate to open a new support ticket at WPML support forum.

Background of the issue:
I translated the homepage to English and German using WPML. The original homepage is at nissei.nl. I expect the URL of the homepage in English to be nissei.nl/en and in German to be nissei.nl/de, but both redirect to nissei.nl. Similarly, the URL nissei.nl/en/machines/ redirects to nissei.nl/machines/. I am following the getting started guide.

Symptoms:
The translated URLs for English and German redirect to the original Dutch URLs instead of displaying the translated pages.

Questions:
Is there a setting that I am missing to prevent the redirection of translated URLs?
Why does the translation tool not prevent the redirection as expected?

Hello,

Is your homepage translated and published?

If so, do you see any errors at WPML > Languages > Language URL format?

If not, do you use any plugin like "Redirection" that could force such redirects?

It would also be very helpful if you could provide us with WPML debugging information.
More information here:

Best regards
Andreas

Hi Andreas,

The homepage is translated and published.

We do use you Permalink Manager Lite. There are settings for third party plugins (as WPML). I changed and checked, but no effect so far.

There is not set a specific permalink for the homepages in this plugin.

The translation for the about page does work well:
Dutch: hidden link
English: hidden link
German: hidden link

As soon as the pageslug is the same (for example service is the same in Ducth and English) is does not work anymore.
Dutch: hidden link
English: hidden link (not found)

Hi,

There is a redirection coming from the Yoast SEO plugin. Please see the attached screenshot. Please check the redirection settings of the Yoast plugin to fix this problem.

In addition, please update WPML and its add-ons to their latest versions. This may or may not solve the issue, but it is required if further investigations are needed.

**** Important! Please make a full site backup (files and DB) before you proceed with those steps****

If my suggestions do not help, please give me access to your site. I'm enabling a private message for the following reply.
