Background of the issue:
My client has a WordPress site and uses multiple languages to reach a broader audience. The current language system (TranslatePress) uses URLs like hidden link and /fi for translation links. In the new WPML module, it will use different domains for different markets. The new links would look like this: xxx-bbb.ie - Ireland, aaa-bbb.fi - Finland, xxx-bbb.com - UK, xxx.ee - Estonia.

Symptoms:
Concern about potential SEO impact and changes in links when switching from TranslatePress to WPML.

Questions:
Will using different domains for different markets lower the SEO score?
Will it change the links?
What should we do with the solutions pointing to these pages that cannot be directed to the primary Google listing in any way?
Should we use the 'temporary remove' feature in Search Console to manage these changes?

Will it help with this as well hidden link ?

Hello,

thanks for contacting us, while you wait for my colleague to take over let me try to help.

I would advise consulting on this with an SEO expert, since change of your link / URLs can impact your SEO score. You should probably redirect all old ones to the new structure links. But as said we are not SEO agency, so best would be to advise with one.

Let us know if there is anything else we can do to help.

Regards,
Drazen

Hi there,

Does it need then new google tools like Analytics, Search console and Tag manager?

That is something you need to consult with an SEO expert. We are not qualified to give you guidance on Google tools.

How does wpml support adding it do different domains?

Here is how to do so:

https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/language-url-options/how-to-use-wpml-with-different-domains-per-language/

Thanks.

Hi,

I understand that you are not SEO experts. You are providing this feature. The question is how to set it up then? As normally one domain wordpress does not allow you to link multiple google tools for different languages. What is the solution here?

Hi there,

From what I understand you do not need to set a separate tool in Google.

You need to ask the support of the SEO plugin that you use.

What WPML does is as follows:

- It facilitates the change between the languages via separate domains when the customer uses the language switcher.
- With WPML SEO it makes WPML compatible with the supported SEO plugin and whatever keywords you add on one language, you can translate it to the other language:

https://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/wpml-seo/

That is all WPML does.

Thanks.
