Background of the issue:
I am using WPML to translate my site, which is under development, into three languages. I have purchased over 600 euros worth of credits for this purpose.

Symptoms:
I am using credits far too quickly compared to the amount of content translated.

Questions:
Am I doing something wrong with the credit usage?
Why are my credits depleting faster than expected?

Hi,

You have selected to use the WPML AI automatic translation engine. This is WPML's best Strings Translation, but it also consumes the most credits per word.

WPML AI = 4 credits per word.
DeepL = 2 credits per word.
Google = 2 credits per word.
Microsoft = 1 credit per word.

If you'd like to spend fewer credits, you can disable the WPML AI engine in WPML -> Translation Management -> Translation Tools -> Automatic translation engines.

You can read more about automatic translation pricing here.

You can get more information about WPML's automatic translation at the following link.

You can get specific information about the WPML AI engine in the following link.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Regards,
Itamar.

I don't think I have explained myself well enough. We have bought in excess of 600k credits. With the average credit usage for our articles being roughly 1500 credits x 3 languages. Together with adding words to the memory bank. We should have translated way more articles on our site.

I literally got through 250K credits on about 10 articles if that.

Could someone look at our site and see what the issue is.

I appreciate that we are a magazine and there's a lot to translate but this just doesn't make sense.

If this is then we will have to stop using it. Which given your promotional material the free credits are enough to translate an average website!

Hi,

Thank you for your reply, Itamar is not available today but he will reply back tomorrow.

Before that, I suggest if you could go to WPML > Translation Management > Translation Tools, scroll down to see the invoices section and expand that.

There you will find a detailed usage of the credits per page. Would you please check there and see if you pinpoint any possible discrepancy between the number of the words translated and the credits used?

Also please consider which translation engine you use so you will know the credit/word ratio.

Thanks.
