We are trying to create or connect a multisite with WPML. The connection between the two multisites fails (Multisite 1 example.de, Multisite 2 en.example.de).

What we want to achieve:

Posts that are created on example.de in German should be able to be translated from there to English and then published on en.example.de.

Also, it should be possible to switch between the example.de and en.example.de pages from the WP backend via the "Languages" tab in the top bar.

We have created a staging multisite-network for this: example.de and via the WP Multisite backend the subdomain en.example.de. WPML was registered on the main page (example.de) as a development page.

With the same key then confirmed on the subdomain. It was acted according to these instructions:
https://wpml.org/documentation/support/multisite-support/

https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/language-url-options/how-to-use-wpml-with-different-domains-per-language/

If we now create a post on example.de, we can also translate it. But the translation will end up on the same domain and not on the sub en.example.de.

Is it at all possible to run multisites with WMPL, and to establish connections between German/English across sites (Multisite 1 example.de, Multisite 2 en.example.de)?

With pleasure we can grant access to the multisites.

Best regards

Hello,

it is not possible to connect different websites (WP installations) via WPML. WPML acts individually on each website/subsite as our docs mention.

The best I can suggest is not to use multisite, but one regular website and then set up WPML to show language per domain. So you will have your main website on domain.com and EN translation on en.domain.com or similar.

https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/language-url-options/how-to-use-wpml-with-different-domains-per-language/

Hope this helps, let us know if any other questions.

Regards,
Drazen
