When using the your Automatic Translation service (deepl) for products, there's an option to also select the media to also translate: hidden link

We are starting to translate products one by one to find issues that we might have and we found out that even when selecting the media, they're not being translated.

For example, this product was translated, the media selected, and still the media title/alt/caption/description were not translated.
Portuguese: hidden link (click on the image to see the title shown on a footer bar inside the light box)
Spanish: hidden link
As we can see on the media manager:
Portuguese: hidden link
Spanish: hidden link

Also an additional question about the automatic translation service in this scenario: If the image has the same title/alt/caption/description, when sending to the translation service, will it be charged 4 times the credits or just once as it's always the same sentence?

Hi,

thanks for contacting us.

You'd be charged only once, since you translate only once.

As for the alt/title not translating, please check that in WPML > Settings > Media Translation the option "Translate media library texts with posts" is checked, then resend everything for translation

Hi Laura and thanks for the fast reply,

"You'd be charged only once, since you translate only once."
Just to clarify, imagine these two situations:
- One image, same text for Title and Alt. I guess both strings are sent to translation, so does your system "knows" it already translated the string and only charges once? Example: hidden link
- Several images, sharing the same title. Those are different objects being translated, it just happens some strings are the same between them, so again, does your system "knows" it already translated the string and only charges once? Example: hidden link

After changing the "Translate media library texts with posts" setting (which solved the issue by the way, thanks!), when sending everything for translation again, does this applies also?
I mean, the part of the posts that were already translated are not going to be translated/charged again?
I ask because I'm getting this, which definitely seems like it's going to translate/charge again even for the rest of the product that it's entirely translated: hidden link when I'm doing this just to fix the media: hidden link

Hello,

1. The automatic translation uses a translation memory glossary, meaning that if a translation happens once, the memory will be used the next time and you won't be charged 4 times.

from your screenshot the Alt text, caption , and description would be considered the same therefore credits will be used once and the rest will be translated using the translation memory

More info can be found here:
https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/how-wpml-keeps-track-of-your-translations/

2. I mean, the part of the posts that were already translated are not going to be translated/charged again?

Yes that applies here as well, please take a look at the documentation shared above as it goes into more depth as well

Glad to hear that the issue has now been resolved using my colleagues suggestion 🙂
