This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client needed clarification on how to transfer translation credits from one website to another, register a staging site with WPML, and understand the process after publishing the staging site live, including whether a new registration is needed.
Solution:
1. To transfer credits from one website to another, first remove the credits from the original site as detailed here: https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/how-to-assign-automatic-translation-credits-to-your-sites/. The credits will then be available in your WPML account and can be assigned to any other site.
2. Every website, whether staging or live, needs to be registered with WPML. If the domain changes after going live, the site must be re-registered. More information can be found here: https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/advanced-translation-editor/using-advanced-translation-editor-when-you-move-or-use-a-copy-of-your-site/.
3. You may not need a new key for sprimontblue.be after going live unless prompted by WPML or if you encounter issues.
4. Translation credits are used when content is auto-translated by AI in WPML. Each word translated consumes credits, with the rate depending on the AI engine used. More details on credit usage and AI engines can be found here:

Background of the issue:
I've created a website using WordPress and Elementor (www.sprimontblue.be), and it's going to be multilingual. Right now, I have a staging site that I want to translate before going live. But I have a few questions because I want to be absolutely sure about everything.

First, I need to remove "credits" from another website I made and transfer them to this new site (sprimontblue.be/staging), which I need to register. Then, I need to register the staging site and use the secret key, right? And what happens after I've finished the translations and published the staging site to live? This part is a bit unclear to me. Do I need to register sprimontblue.be again and use a new key? How does the usage of translation credits work?

Hopefully, someone can help me out in clear and simple terms because I want to be sure of what I'm doing.

Symptoms:
Unclear about the process of transferring credits, registering the staging site, and what happens after publishing the staging site to live.

Questions:
How do I remove credits from another website and transfer them to the new site (sprimontblue.be/staging)?
Do I need to register the staging site and use the secret key?
What happens after I've finished the translations and published the staging site to live?
Do I need to register sprimontblue.be again and use a new key?
How does the usage of translation credits work?

Hey there,

Thanks for sharing the details. Let me answer your questions.

1. Then, I need to register the staging site and use the secret key, right? And what happens after I've finished the translations and published the staging site to live?

Yes, every website needs registering, regardless of being staging or production. After going live, if the domain is changed, you likely need to re-register the website. You can check more details here:

https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/advanced-translation-editor/using-advanced-translation-editor-when-you-move-or-use-a-copy-of-your-site/

Note that this process can't cause any issues, as it does not change anything related to your translations.

2. How do I remove credits from another website and transfer them to the new site (sprimontblue.be/staging)?

First, you need to remove the credits from one of the websites, as explained here:

https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/how-to-assign-automatic-translation-credits-to-your-sites/

The credits you then be available in your account, in wpml.org/acctount, and can be assigned to any websites you have.

3. Do I need to register sprimontblue.be again and use a new key?

Only if WPML asks you to, or if you have any issues. If you can assign credits normally, and don't see any messages, you likely don't need a new key. Again, this process does not impact your translations, so you can always re-register them in wpml.org if you have any issues.

4. How does the usage of translation credits work?

Credits are consumed when using AI Automatic Translation with WPML. When content on your website is auto translated by AI, each word, in each language, will consume an amount of credits (2 to 4 credits). The credits/word value changes depending on which AI Engine you are using. Please check more details on these links I've gathered:
