HI,

After creating a post in the first (original language), I do a CTRL click on the + signs for the other languages to open their editing in separate browser tabs. Initially, each translation shows that the taxonomies and custom fields have been copied correctly, however, when I click on publish, the information about the categories (taxonomies) disappears and often the post itself is not published as a translation of the original language.

Let me also say that we use the WordPress editor and not the WPML translation editor.

I haven't come across similar questions on the forums, so now I need your help. Is the procedure with opening multiple tabs for editing the translation of one post a good procedure or should it be avoided.

Hi Vedran,

Thank you for contacting WPML support, I'd be happy to help you with this issue.

If you are using the WordPress editor, I suggest you use the ACF field group mode "Different fields across languages", or "Expert" mode with field preference "Copy Once" or "Translate".
Then you can create a translation page with WordPress editor and add the field value manually.

Refer documentation https://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/translate-sites-built-with-acf/recommended-custom-fields-translation-preferences-for-acf-and-wpml/

Look forward to your reply.
Thanks

Hi Long,
you didn't understand my question very well which is not about ACF fields at all.
My question is when a new post is entered, can its translations be done in multiple tabs in the browser at the same time. On the web we are currently working on, if we do one post and its translations simultaneously in several tabs, a problem occurs. The base language is lost, the categories are not transferred from the base language, etc.

So, in one tab in the browser is the original post, in another tab is its translation into Spanish, in the third tab into German, etc. Can such a way of working lead to unexpected problems?

In response to your advice (although it is not the subject of the conversation), just to answer that we use Expert mode for all field groups.

Hi,

I've tested translating a post into multiple languages in multiple tabs and see the post title, and content as saved as well. But the category isn't good sometimes, maybe there is an issue with caching for the terms. Here is the screen record hidden link

I don't see the content in the default language lost. The workflow should be (on my site):
- Create a post in default English language > Add content, select category > Publish it.
- Open the translation in Czech and French languages in other tabs > Add content and wait for the Category box loaded > Publish it.

However, I recommend translating content into one language at the same time to prevent unexpected issues.

Look forward to your reply.
Thanks

Hi,

We have problems with the mode of operation you recommended. We create a post in Croatian, click on the + sign to translate it into English, from English click on the + sign to translate it into French, etc. for the other 4 languages (we do not use tabs in the browser because you advised us so). Now in every language it says that it is a translation from the language we came from. In English it says that the translation is from Croatian, in French that it is a translation from English, etc. for the other 4 languages.
And here we come to the problem!!! When I change the taxonomy in the Croatian language, only the English language is updated and the others are not, because they are no longer translations of Croatian but of the language that precedes them.
At this moment, we no longer know which is the correct way of translation, so we ask for the following instructions:

1. How to translate the original language so that its translations keep the Croatian language as the original language. So, if I make changes to the category/taxonomy in Croatian, it applies to other languages.

2. Is it possible to subsequently synchronize the 81 posts that have been entered so far, so that the translations get their original languages

3. We want detailed instructions on how to write a post and translate it into other languages using WPML.

Other notes:

1. Featured image when changed, applies to translations without problems.

2. Due to the specific request of the client, the basic main language in the WPML settings is English, and we have translations into Croatian, French, German, Italian and Slovenian. Regardless of that, we first write ALL POSTS in Croatian, because since we are from Croatia, we first receive all materials in Croatian.

I hereby ask you as a long-term user of WPML to find out as soon as possible what is causing us problems and we ask for technical support of the highest level. If necessary, we can create temporary access to WP admin for you.

Thank you for your quick response.

Hi,

I can replicate that issue on my demo site. It occurs when you use WordPress editor and create a translation post from a translation post and so on. To prevent this issue, the workflow should be:
1. Edit the post in Croatian (original) language.
2. Create a translation post in English by clicking the "+" icon.
3. Switch back to Croatian language.
4. Create a translation post in French by clicking the "+" icon.
Repeat steps 3 and 4 to create translation posts in other languages.

Additionally, if you take a look at my screen record above when you create a translation post, you can see arguments in the URL:
"hidden link;"

- lang=en: the current language is English
- source_lang=hr: the language of the original post

Ensure the source_lang is the same (hr) and you will do the correct translation workflow.

Look forward to your reply.
Thanks

Hi,

To connect a translation post with the original post, please follow steps below:

1. Edit the post in a second language (French for example) > In the Language box > Select "This is a translation of: None" > Save changes and reload the page.

2. Click on "Connect with translations" > Search for the post in Croatian language > Select the post and Disable option "Make French the original language for this page." > Click Assign button.

Please check these screenshots hidden link
and refer to the documentation https://wpml.org/faq/how-to-link-already-translated-pages/

Look forward to your reply.
Thanks

Hi,
The problems continue with the translation of taxonomies. There are definitely issues that you need to explain to us. All of the issues we mentioned seem to be related to some sort of caching or something similar.

Today we noticed that if we mark 3 taxonomies (e.g. Culture, History, Sport) on previously published posts, in the original language, and update the post, only 2 taxonomies (Culture, Sport) are transferred to the translations. After secondary update of original language, third category update also on translation.
Could you please explain why this is happening?

If 'Copy taxonomies for translations' is checked in the WPML settings, this means that all taxonomies should be copied, not just some, and that at the first update.
As I said before, we can give you temporary access to wp-admin and I think it's really time to do something.

Thanks

When I change taxonomy in the main language, and I visit its translation, it displays warnings:
Warning:

Hi,

Please update WPML plugin to the new version 4.6.7 and recheck this issue. In the new version, we fixed an issue with the taxonomy caching and that would help you in this case. I've tested this on my demo site and did not see that.
Refer documentation https://wpml.org/faq/install-wpml/#checking-for-updates

If it does not help, you can try to replicate the issue on a clean installation of WordPress, take a screen record and share it with me. You can login directly to the admin area with this link
hidden link

You are trying to edit a translation that is currently in the process of being added using WPML.

Please edit the post in the original language and ensure the WordPress editor is selected. Then you can edit the post in the second language, publish or update some changes and recheck this issue.

Look forward to your reply.
Thanks
