Background of the issue:
We renewed our membership for the website which uses WPML. As a result, got updates for the WPML Multilingual CMS and WPML SEO. However, we encountered an error message in our dashboard.
Symptoms:
WPML Update is Incomplete. You are running updated sitepress-multilingual-cms, but the following component is not updated: wpml-string-translation (required version: 3.3.0). Your site will not work as it should in this configuration.
Questions:
How can I update it? Any option without buying a more expensive package?
Can I continue using the current outdated 3.2.3 version as is?
Welcome to WPML support. As you do not have access to WPML string plugins due to the fact you use Blog subscription please follow the steps below to update WPML manually:
- IMPORTANT STEP! Create a backup of your website. Or better approach will be to test this on a copy/staging version of the website to avoid any disruption of a live website.
- Make sure you are signed in wpml.org.
- Go to https://wpml.org/account/downloads/
- Click the "Download WPML manually" link to show the rest of the plugins on the page.
- Download the latest version of the WPML.
- Install them manually on your website using the method below: https://wpml.org/faq/updating-wpml-manually/
Did I understand correctly that in our case, we cannot update wpml-string-translation? So, to properly update WPML, I need to proceed with a manual update for the main plugin.
Will there be any issues during the manual update? For example, could the existing content be deleted, or could any other problems arise?
Is there a way to purchase wpml-string-translation separately or get a one-time update, or is it only available as part of a more expensive package?
The WPML String translation is not supposed to be available for you at all.
The manual update method will not delete any translations, but as any plugin update it is advisable to have a backup of the website before doing any sort of update.
The String Translation plugin is available only as part of the WPML Multilingual CMS or WPML Agency subscriptions. For more information:

If the message is still there, I'd appreciate it if you could give me the URL/User/Pass of your WordPress dashboard after you make sure that you have a backup of your website.
It is absolutely important that you give us a guarantee that you have a backup so if something happens you will have a point of restore.
