Background of the issue:
I am trying to get credits working on my site. I had to create a new instance, but it's linked to the same URL. I don't have any other site to assign them to, and I've gone into the assignment and put credits in there.

Symptoms:
The credits are not appearing on my site.

Questions:
Why are the credits not showing up on my site?
How can I ensure the credits are correctly assigned to my site?

Hi there.

I'm sorry to hear that you are going through this, and I'm here to help you resolve it.

Those credits probably got stuck.

So, please let me explain why I think this situation with the credits might be happening.

When you initially install and set up WPML, an automatic translation account ID is created.

If you uninstall/reset WPML or reinstall/set WordPress from scratch, a new automatic translation account ID will be generated, and the credits will remain in the old account.

On this page (https://wpml.org/account), can you click the "add/remove credits” button and move the credits back to your WPML.org account?

Then, please go here (https://wpml.org/account/sites/) > remove the current site key > generate a new one > then go to your website's backend > Plugins > Add new > Commercial > UNregister WPML from the old key > RE-register WPML with the new key.

Now, you can re-add the credits to your site by following the steps here:
https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/how-to-assign-automatic-translation-credits-to-your-sites/

Please let me know if that works for you.

I was able to find a different automatic translation account that currently has a total of 44834 credits assigned to it, and those are probably the ones that are stuck and that you are referring to.

I will be waiting for your response.

I've got a new start site key but these instructions are pretty strangely laid out and I don't know what you mean.

Do I need to add a new plug-in?

"then go to your website's backend > Plugins > Add new > Commercial > UNregister WPML from the old key > RE-register WPML with the new key."

Hi there.

Sorry if I was not clear enough.

You don't need to install a new plugin: when you go to your website's backend > Plugins > Add new > on this page here, there's a tab called "Commercial" that you can click on, and it will take you to the area where you can UNregister/REgister WPML.

Please let me know if you still have questions.

This doesn't seem to be anything which is in your documentation. So to do this to get the credits to work, you have to raise a ticket when ultimately your system isn't functioning correctly. If this is not a mistake by me then it's a bug and therefore you need to write about it or change it. Why don't you formalise this process of dealing with transferring sites by writing some kind of guide to doing it?

I think WPML is an impressive and highly functional piece of software, but the process of working through problems is really time consuming. And really undermines the value of what you've achieved.

In my mind, your support mechanism should a much more detailed user guide and not reply on people searching through old Support tickets.
