Background of the issue:
I am trying to translate pages from English to Japanese using WPML. The issue can be seen on this page: hidden link. I have re-installed WPML on a new development site, but the issue persists.

Symptoms:
No content is displayed on the page, and there are two large boxes with the message 'Please use the sidebar to add content.'

Questions:
Why is the content not displaying on the translated page?
Could the issue be related to the theme used on the site?

Thanks for your patience.

I've checked and it looks like you're using a custom Gutenberg block to create this Sticky Bento Section. I've tried to register the this custom Gutenberg block using custom XML configuration in WPML > Settings > Custom XML Configuration but it's still not working correctly as shown here hidden link

I kindly ask for a snapshot of the site. Alternatively, with your permission, I can create one myself. For this purpose, I typically recommend using the free plugin "Duplicator." If you're already familiar with Duplicator (https://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/), please skip the following steps and simply send me the archive file you downloaded.

To guide you further, please adhere to these instructions:

1. View the Duplicator instructions video: hidden link

2. Consult WPML's instructions on providing supporters with a copy of your site: https://wpml.org/faq/provide-supporters-copy-site/

3. If the archive file exceeds 400MB, please use Duplicator's file filters to exclude cache, wp-uploads directory, media, and archive files.

Once you have the archive file ready, kindly share the link with us. You can utilize platforms like Google Drive, Dropbox, or similar for file sharing, as the snapshot file might be large.

Please note that your next reply will be private, visible only to you and me. You can paste the file link there. Rest assured that once the issue is resolved, I will delete the local site.

Hello Kor,

Thank you for looking into this. That would be great if you could great a duplicate of the site yourself. You have my permission to do so.

Note: I had to make this reply public otherwise it would have been a requirement to supply my own duplicate site.

Thanh you!

Thanks for your response. I’m unable to create a copy of the site due to server restrictions, as shown here: hidden link

To work around this, I’ve set up a sandbox site: hidden link . Could you please replicate the issue there? You can install the theme and any necessary third-party plugins to reproduce the problem.

Once the issue is replicated, I’ll check it and try to resolve it. If needed, I'll escalate it for further assistance.

Hello Kor,
Apologies for the delayed reply.
How can we give you access to the staging site to allow you to have a look?
We are not able to install the theme on the sandbox since we no longer work with the developer that created it.
Let us know what would be the best way forward.
Thank you!

Thanks for your reply.

I will try to copy the theme files manually from your Website and then, we'll try to replicate the issue on our sandbox site.

Could you update your Website credentials here again?

Thanks for your reply. My apologies for the misunderstanding. You should not import the entire site directly to our sandbox site. But anyway, I've copied the Website to my local dev site and I will check and revert back to you as quickly as possible.

Thanks for your patience. Our 2nd Tier Support checked and this is what they have done to fix this page hidden link . Also, they have shared some feedback with us.

1. I deleted the existing JA translation of the page
2. I edited the English page and created a WPML duplicate page
3. I edited that Japanese duplicate and set it to edit independently
4. I edited the page and started making changes to the text, which updated as I made them.
5. I saved the page and viewed it on the front end, and it displayed as expected

Also, they mentioned that the BuddyPress Multilingual plugin is installed even when you are not using BuddyPress. Maybe you should consider removing it.

Furthermore, if you prefer to translate using automatic translation, it's important to follow the documentation closely. These blocks are quite specialized, so unfortunately, it's not something we can handle directly for you.

Since they are based on ACF, it's crucial to ensure that all related ACF fields have their translation preferences set correctly. Essentially, any field that isn't for actual text content should be set to 'Copy' or 'Copy Once', while only the text fields should be set to 'Translate'.

For more detailed guidance, you can refer to these resources:

https://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/translate-sites-built-with-acf/setting-the-translation-preferences-for-acf-fields-created-using-php-code/

Thank you for the message.

I have tried to replicate the steps above but cannot seem to do so.
Is it possible for you to do a screen recording or something similar so I can see how it is done?

Thank you!

Thanks so much for your patience, and my apologies for the earlier confusion — I misunderstood the response from our 2nd Tier Support. Here's what they actually shared:

The key point here is to review the translation preferences for the custom fields used in your custom blocks. Here are some documentation that explains how to configure these settings:

- https://wpml.org/documentation/support/language-configuration-files/make-custom-gutenberg-blocks-translatable/

Please note that we’re not able to review or modify the code of custom blocks for you. This kind of debugging requires custom development work, which is beyond the scope of our support.

If you're not able to configure the custom blocks with the appropriate translation preferences, an alternative would be to manually translate the content. This involves duplicating the original language page and editing the translated text directly in the WordPress editor.

You can find more details here:

- https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/displaying-untranslated-content-on-pages-in-secondary-languages/#duplicating-content

Let us know if you need help locating these settings or have any questions about the process!
