This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is experiencing issues with WPML where duplicating products also duplicates translations, resulting in unwanted pages with repeated text like '(KOPIER)(KOPIER)'. The client wants to duplicate products without duplicating translations and without language flags appearing until translations are properly done.
Solution:
1. WPML allows duplication of content from the original language to a secondary language, as described in this guide: Displaying Untranslated Content on Pages in Secondary Languages.
2. To duplicate content within the same language without carrying over translations, the client will need to use another plugin. Recommended plugins for this functionality can be found here: Plugin Functionality Duplication.
3. If the issue of unwanted '(KOPIER)(KOPIER)' text persists, it is likely caused by a third-party plugin, not WPML. The client should check the settings or contact the support for that specific plugin.

If this solution does not resolve your issue, or if it seems outdated or irrelevant to your specific case, we highly recommend opening a new support ticket. Also, please check related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verify the version of the permanent fix, and confirm that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. Hello,
Thank you for contacting us

In WPML you can only duplicate the content from the original language to a secondary language as described in this guide: https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/displaying-untranslated-content-on-pages-in-secondary-languages/

Regards,
Carlos

Thank you, but that is not what we want - we want to b e able to copy products and leave the translations empty with no language flags on original (danish) page. Flags should occur only when translated. I'm pretty sure we have had that opportunity in the past

Hi there,

Within WPML there is only the option to duplicate content (posts, pages, products, etc) from the original language to the secondary language, but there is no option to duplicate content from the original language to the same language. To achieve that you will need to use another plugin like the ones shown in this link: https://wpml.org/plugin-functionality/duplication/

You don't get it, please read carefully:
1. When we are creating new products we start by duplicating existing, similar products for editing.
2. When we do that we get all kinds of absurd translations, where text ends with (KOPIER)(KOPIER) etc.
3. We do NOT want that, what we want is translations to be empty until translated properly.

Hi,

1.- In your message, you mentioned that when you "are creating new products" (this means products in the original language), you "start by duplicating existing, similar products for editing". In this case, I understand that you duplicated a product in the original language. If that is not the case, then I kindly ask you to explain or provide an example.

2.- Then you mentioned that you get absurd translations where texts end with "(KOPIER)(KOPIER)". WPML doesn't do that, so you are probably referring to a third-party functionality, like another plugin, that you are using to duplicate products.

3.- In this point, you mentioned "what we want is translations to be empty until translated properly" which refers to translations. But the first point is referred to products in the original language.

I kindly ask you to provide an example so I can have a better understanding of your request. As of right now, I understand you are using another plugin to duplicate products and their translations, which is not a WPML functionality.
