  1. Hi,

I purchased WPML a year ago, but I was too late to download it, yes I know it has been a year later already. Can I download the version before it expired? I think I do have the right to at least download that version. I now see that I cannot download WPML al all anymore.

    Thanks for your reply,
    Rob

    • Dear R,
      thank you for your question.
We can offer you to upgrade to your life time version just paying the difference. If you had CMS license, you can upgrade to lifetime CMS paying $116 instead of $195.
This is what we always offer for all of our customers who were in a similar situation like yours.

Please let me know, if you are interested.

      • I am not interested in paying again for something I have already purchased. I just want to redownload what I purchased before.

        • Can I get a download link of what I purchased before? I lost the zip files, and I think it is more then honest if I can download what I purchased before.

        • Dear R,
I’m very sorry but we cannot make an exception for your individual case.

When you purchase your WPML Multilingual CMS license what you actually buying is:
          – Access to all of WPML’s modules and features
          – Downloads and updates for one year
          – Use WPML on as many sites as you want
          – Access to the members-only support forum and documentation

and you accept it before pressing ‘Place order’ button.

No 2 line says it clearly that you will have access to downloads and updates for one year.

  2. Hi trying to set-up site to run second language of mandarin, planning to purchase WPML CMS version – couple of questions:

    1) Not all of the site will be translated (the blog say will only be in english) – what will happen to pages existing only in default language once a user has switched / been redirected to view secondary language? Are they shown but in default language? or are they hidden?.. Will it show secondary language (if it exists) but default back to english if a translation is not available?

    2) The site has been built on a custom theme (based on ‘underscore’) and has many (!) plugins already running, and much (not very thoroughly coded) customisations. How can I check to see if there’s any hope of it working?.. is it possible to run an install on a test version – and if it’s not looking like it’s going to work, delete and get money back?

    Many thanks.

    • Hi Mark,
      1. Yes, you can decide. You have various options here: to redirect to homepage, you can show a message that this page/post is only available in … language, you can show the original post/page.
      2. When you buy your WPML license you can use it on all of your sites. It means, you can create a copy of your site first and test how it works with WPML. We also have refund policy. http://wpml.org/purchase/refunds-policy/

      • Ok, thanks for reply. So… how do you show the original post / page (without creating a duplicate of it in the secondary language) ?

        • In WPML settings you will find something like this:

How to handle languages without translation
Some pages or posts may not be translated to all languages. Select how the language selector should behave in case translation is missing.
          – Skip language
          – Link to home of language for missing translations

If you choose the first option (Skip language) and let’s suppose you have your language switcher in your sidebar. If you visit your original post which has its equivalent in sencond language, you will see the second language in your language swtcher. If there is no translation, your second language in your switcher will be hidden for this post.

  3. Hi I have a few pre sales questions –

    1) Does WPML automatically detect and display the correct language – so when i first open the website if i am in China i see the site in Chinese, if i am in England i see the site in English. If i am in a country where no translation exists i see the default (probably English) version of the website (but i have a language selector so i can switch to another language)

    2) If so can you tell me how it does this – does it pull the users language from their browser information or use their geolocation as the defining factor for the language.

    3) Also if no translation exists for a page does it show in the default language instead

4 ) If no translation of a page exists is it possible to hide that page so it doesn’t display in that languages menu

    – thanks

    • Hi Renne,
      thank you for your questions.

1 and 2. Yes, you can switch it on in WPML settings. I will redirect your visitors according to a language set in their browser.
3 and 4. You decide. You have various options here: to redirect to homepage, you can show a message that this page/post is only available in … language, you can show the original post/page.

  4. Hi

I want to convert this website to German as the default language with the option to translate into english if people wish to. Is this Possible?

    Thanks in advance

    • Hi Henry,
yes, this is possible. You will have to set German as your site default language right after WPML installing. WPML guide will ask you for that. Then you will add English as a second language. Some of your pages/posts can be transalted while other don’t have to. You decide which.

  5. Hi,
I did not see my site’s theme – Realtr (by Templatic) in the theme compatibility list.
This might be a stupid question but does that mean I can’t use WPML on this site?

    thank you,
    Nim

    • Hi Nimrod,
you can use WPML with all of your themes. In most cases you will not have any problems with translating post, pages, categories etc. But sometimes you can come across some issues, especially when your theme uses lots of – so called – custom theme options. When a theme is our list it means, that everything should work smoothly.

What’s the full name (or a link) of your theme?

  6. Hi
I have purchase the “Multilingual CMS”. All is fine except that I need to download
“String translation” as well but cant find him at my download.
    How is that?

    plz your help.

    thanks in advanced

  7. Hi there,

  8. Hi Agnes,

I have found this interesting article about setting up WPML. http://senlinonline.com/nl/services/wpml-implementatie/wpml-setup-guide/

    It is most informative, but I have two questions;

    1. I have installed the Dutch version of WordPress. In section 0 (and 1) the author explains about returning WP to the default language (US) in case you have installed a localized version of WordPress, but does not explain why this is important. Q: should I do this? What am I risking or missing if I don’t.

    2. I am using the Dante theme which has been localized. PO and MO files are available in English and Dutch (the two languages that my site needs to support). In section 6 the author strongly advises to choose for ‘translate by WPML’ because… it is too good to hope for an MO file. But – I do have them. I guess that in my case it is wise to stick with the default ‘translate using MO files’. Please advise me here.

    Thanks Agnes!.
    Rgds, Frank.

    • Hi Frank,
it looks like this article is pretty old. I wouldn’t reply on WPML documentation which was not written by us as well. If you cannot find answers to your question in our documentation (I mean at wpml.org site directly), please let us know. We will try to improve.
Coming back you your questions. I guess the author of the article might have come across some issues related to this:
      https://wpml.org/faq/string-translation-default-language-not-english/
But you can have your default language other than English.

      Question 2.
You can still reply on translations made by mo/po files. You don’t have to use the option to translate them through WPML panel. Sometime people prefer it because they find it easier to manage the translations directly from within WordPress admin.

Frank, if you already bought WPML, please feel free to ask your question in our support forum. There are WPML experts there ready to assist you with all your issues.

      • Hi Agnes,

Thank you for the answers. I just bought WPML and will use the forum for further support. So far it looks that for every issue you guys have a solution worked out.

        Regards,
        Frank.

  9. i am using a template not in the list (Blanco), and want to have it RTL. will WMPL support me in switching the whole site layout to the right?

  10. I would like to know which languages are included when purchasing the lifetime CMS for $195. I would like to translate my website into at least: Spanish, Russian, German from English.

    • Hi Anthuane.
Thanks for yuir question. WPML supports all of the languages you listed. But even if your language is not included in WPLM default list, you can also add it manually.
But please note that WPML doesn’t translate your content automatically. It is you who provides and inserts the transaltions.

  11. Dear Agnes,

I am setting up 4 websites on 4 independent domains, and I am planning them all to be bilingual. I will work directly on all of them , however they are different “entities” (a design website, my personal blog, a company website and a company project website).

I just want to make sure one purchase of the $195 WPML will allow me to install and run the plugin in all 4 WP independent boards without the need to buy it 4 times over, as I am the admin of all 4 projects. Is that what “unlimited sites” means?

Thank you very much for your assistance.
    Kind regards,
    Stasha

    • Dear Stasha,
      thank you for you question.

Yes, you need to buy only one license and you will be able to use it for all of your sites and projects. Yes, you are right. This is what “unlimited sites” means.

  12. hi, we have one e-store website that we use woocommerce in it. i want to use wpml for pricing with different currencies manually. But i don’t want to use whole website translation feature because our website should use just one language. i want to use just different currency feature for different products.

So is this plugin ok for me or should i have to use whole website translation feature for using currency feature? thanks.

  13. Hello, if I buy the Multilingual CMS, can i upgrade latter to Multilingual CMS Lifetime paying the difference, or there is different price for upgrade?

  14. Hello,

I want to confirm WMPL will do something before I buy the unlimited license.

I am creating a WooCommerce affiliate and real combination store/comparison site that sells services from multiple countries in their respective currencies and pricing.

eg. UK Service £500 GBP, Canada Course $900 CAD, US Course $870 USD

What I want is to use the service providers local price for the actual product cost, then display it to the local currency of the User (say in Euros) with exchange rates automatically updated. Please understand that a single user based in Germany needs to see products from all geographic territories in each local pricing.

Is it possible for a user to toggle between display of all the product actual costs in their respective currencies and auto-converted values of the users currency?

Finally for actual payment, there will be a combination of three things:
    1) Visitor will pay the correct amount in their selectable preferred currency to cover the cost of the actual company’s local charge using an appropriate payment gateway

    2) Visitor will merely see the international currency price listed on the display (but have cart functionality hidden by the woothemes plugin http://www.woothemes.com/products/catalog-visibility-options/

    3) Visitor will be able to buy some products as 1) but will have the visibility listed as in 2) depending on restrictions where a US Company won’t accept payment in NZD for example?

Thank you very much for your help.

    Michael

    • Hi Michael,

“Is it possible for a user to toggle between display of all the product actual costs in their respective currencies and auto-converted values of the users currency?”

You can use currency switcher for this (also the site owner can set some settings for currencies, please read more here: http://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/woocommerce-multilingual/multi-currency-support-woocommerce/ )

“… using an appropriate payment gateway”

Which payment gateway do you plan to use? Not all are compatible with WooCommerce Multilingual

      “Catalog Visibility Options”

The plugin is not compatible yet. It will be in the future.

“Visitor will be able to buy som…”

This one is not clear for us. Could you please explain more?

      • Sorry for not being clear. Essentially I want to know if the shop base currency can be set per product and converted by exchange rate automatically OR manually
        e.g.
Product A is set at $1000 USD and converted to CAD for Canadian users
Product B is set in $1000 Canadian dollars and appears as $1000 CAD for Canadian users.
Product C is set as 500GBP and appears as ~$800 CAD in Canada and $780 in USD

Can product display be restricted to certain geographic regions?

Some products will be using Stripe and some will be affiliate products not using a payment gateway where only the correct pricing information is required.

Hopefully that’s clearer – Thank you for your help!!

  15. Hi I am using a theme called “Customizr” it is not listed on the verified theme page. I understand that as it is not on the theme-compatibility page. Does this mean the plugin will not work at all. I have sent the theme developers the link to get compatability.

    Thanks JP

    • Hi JP,
If a theme is not listed in our compatibility list we cannot guarantee everything will work smoothly. But some of our WPML customers have been using Customizr with WPML. They had some minor issues but finally found successful workarounds to make it work with the help of our support forum.

Thank you for sending the theme authors the link to get compatability with WPML. Nice to hear.

  16. 1. Do I have to add language files manually or is the WPML plugin doing this automatically?

    2. If I want to renewal my account in order to benefit from the renewal discount, do I have to do this straight after the year has expired or can this also be done months or maybe years later?

    3. This plugin works with 1 WordPress installation, right? I don’t need one for every language or am I wrong?

    4. 1 database will be used? Or does it create one for every language?

    5. Can you give me a short explanation of the following things that are listed in the list of features? That would be nice.

    Translate custom fields
    Multilingual E-Commerce Support
    Translate widgets
Translate texts in theme and plugins admin
    Manage attachments in different languages
    Multi-user translation management
    XLIFF interface
    CMS navigation
    Sticky links

    Thanks in advance!

    • I forgot one important question.

      6. Is there a live WordPress demo with this plugin enabled? I would like to see it in action. Preferably with articles that are translated into several languages where I can see how the switching function is going to work and look like.

      • Hi again.
We are also the authors of Toolset pugins. And some of our Toolset demo sites (which are available for free) use WPML.
        Please go here:
        http://discover-wp.com/

        and choose one of these:
        Bootstrap Real Estate
        Toolset Classifieds
        Bootstrap Commerce

they use WPML. This way you will be able to see WPML in action.

    • Hi,
thank you for your interest in WPML. Here are my answers:

      1. WPML is doing it automatically.
      2. You should do it before your license expires. You will also have a possibility to upgrade to lifetime anytime by paying the diffrence only. You will find an option for it in your WPML account panel.
      3. Right. You need only one WordPress installation.
      4. That’s right. 1 database will be used for everything.
      5. All of the things you listed are supported by WPML. But for some of them to work you will need extra modules which are only available in Multilingual
CMS license or in Multilingual CMS Lifetime.

  17. Hi there

I paid for WPML before and my license was not renewed (I didn’t get an notification that I need to extend WPML again). Now I run into problems with the new WordPress update and I wanted to download WPML 3.0 (which came out when I still subscribed to your service). Please send me link so I can download WPML 3.0.

    Thanks

    • Dear Marius, I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t get the notification. Maybe it landed in your spam folder.

I’m sorry but what you ask for is not possible to accomplish. When you purchase WPML, this is what you actually buy:
-Access to all of WPML’s modules and features
-Downloads and updates for one year
-Use WPML on as many sites as you want
-Access to the members-only support forum and documentation

We cannot allow for any manual work done for specific, individual cases.

It is also recommended to use the latest WPML version.
      With best regards,
      Agnes

  20. Hello,

I’m trying to decide which package I need: Multilingual Blog or CMS. Will the theme, such as navigation, only be translated with the CMS package, regardless of whether it’s a compatible theme or not? I have For The Cause by WooThemes and I’m not sure if it is compatible.

If I were to purchase the CMS package and realize that I only need the Blog package, is it possible to downgrade and get a refund for the difference?

    Thanks!

    • Hello,
sorry you can always upgrade from Blog to CMS, not the other way round. When you buy CMS licese you get access to full number of additional plugins.

For The Cause by WooThemes theme is WPML compatible:
      http://wpml.org/2013/11/themes-related-woocommerce/

The blog license is meant for simple blogs, when you deal with posts, pages and categories, and no custom, complex features. ‘For The Cause’ theme has lots of extra features and I don’t think they all will be multilingual ready without the modules which are available in CMS version only.

      • Perfect, good to know my theme is compatible. Thanks for letting me know about the package upgrade also, seems as though I need CMS.

        Thanks, Agnes!

      • Hi again Agnes, I’ve contacted Woothemes to confirm compatibility with your plugin, and was informed that only the WooCommerce portion of the theme “For The Cause” would be compatible, not the theme itself.

This is an issue because I will not be using any of the WooCommerce features on the theme, I just need to translate basic things like the navigation menus and sidebar widgets.

What is the best way I can accomplish this?

        Thanks for your help.

        • Hi João,
Thank you for your question. I did overlooked your question. I’m sorry, my apologizes.

          Answering your question.

Translating navigation (menus) and widgets should work. But I can see there are some custom options (sliders for example). These can require the presence of so called wpml-config.xml file which is usually created in cooperation with theme authors. For simple cases you can handle it yourself or with the help of our support forum

          http://wpml.org/documentation/support/language-configuration-files/

          • Hi Agnes, that’s what I needed to know, thank you! I don’t mind doing the extra work, as long as I know it is an option to work out some code on my own to get it done, and that I’ll have the support forum to turn to.

            Thanks again.

  21. hi, i sent you a presage question but you didnt answer me and i also can’t see my message. Anyway, this is important question and its urgent. İ have to use different currency for different products but i don’t want to use wpml as a translation plugin of my website (i don’t want to translate my whole website because i want to use my website just in one language), just wanna use this currency feature. So is it possible or not?

  22. Hi,
    Got a quick question!
Where can the multilingual flags be placed on my website?
we need them in the header is it possible?
    regards,
    D

  23. Hello again,
Not sure where my previous comment is (maybe deleted) so I have to ask again!
Can the language flags be placed on top right side of my WordPress self hosted site?
    My theme is Bridge.
    Your advice would be appreciated
    Thank you,
    D

    • I’ve just replied.
You can easily add your language switcher into your sidebar and/or WP Menu (using WPML settings). You can place your switcher in any other place you want but this will required some custom coding. See my previous reply.

  24. Hi, I have a quick question… Im planning on buying the plugin Multilingual CMS Lifetime. Can this plugin be used on multiple websites or just for ONE website? Is the $195 payment for life or is this an annual cost?

Although it says LIFETIME in your page we just want to clarify if there is a catch. How valid is your offer?

    • You can use WPML on all your sites and all the sites that you build for your clients. The Lifetime option means that you also don’t need to renew your account to keep getting our support and upgrades.
