I am interested in to buy WPML. However, I would like to point out what I need in my blog and see if WPML would fit in. I am doing an bilingual blog which are English and Thai I would like to have a very simple site.
2. Does WPML has a button option on sidebar to be shown as Thai and English? so, readers can select which language they prefer and when they click on it the entire blog will be changed to the language that they selected.
3. How it works on my dashboard? I will manually write 2 separate pages both Thai and English(same content but I will not use translate program)I am wondering how can work on it behind the dashboard? So every post it will not be shown in the home (if it’s happened the home page will be mess up with every 2 posts in the same content but in a different language)
4. If I set up English as a main language for my blog. Would Google read for Thai version in my blog?
5. If WPML does what I would like my blog to be so, what WPML version should I buy?
Hi there, thanks for your interest in WPML.
1. If you choose English as the primary language, there will be no prefix for English. For Thai, there will be ‘th’. In case you choose Thai as the primary language, there will be no prefix for Thai. For English, there will be ‘en’ then.
2. Yes, you just click “Display ‘Languages’ as the widget title ” in WPML settings.
3. When transalte your post, a new post is created indeed but in your dashboard you can limit the results to one language only. This way you can for example display only all English posts or only Thai posts (you can also choose to show all languages).
4. Yes, it will. When Google bots encounter your language switcher they will follow the link to Thai version and this way it will be also indexed.
5. You can start with blog version. If it turns out that there is someting you cannot handle with it, you can always upgrate to CMS version by paying the difference only.
Hi Mike,
Are you asking about WPML supporting Korean? If so, WPML supports Korean.
Or maybe you are asking about the possibility to provide support help in our forum in Korean? No, we don’t have such plans for the moment.
Hi,
I’m not sure if I understand what you mean by ‘a package for setting up the plugin’. WPML initial setup is very easy. When you activate WPML plugin, it will automatically guide you through the required steps.
If you need professional translations for Chinese made by human, you can use our iCanLocalize service. http://www.icanlocalize.com/site/services/wordpress-translation/
It’s paid but integrated with WPML so you send from and receive your translations directly into your WordPresss.
Hi Jane,
thanks for your interest in WPML and your question. Let me explain it giving you a broader perspective:
1. WPML doesn’t inherently cause a website to be slow.
2. WPML is a plugin. As such, it adds code and database access to the website. The actual addition to the site’s execution time depends on many factors, including the content, theme, other plugins and how WPML is configured.
3. Using the default values, WPML automates a lot, allowing to run multilingual sites with many themes without any work. This makes using themes and plugins convenient and costs a bit in execution time. For very busy sites, we recommend a series of simple optimizations, which take a little bit of work and can reduce much of WPML’s execution time.
Sorry I have not made it clear. Basically, what I need
1. I need only the function on the sidebar where readers can switch between two languages.
2. I do not need the language translation plugin to be installed because I will manually write into different language. If I have not misunderstood the language translation plugin will make the website heavy?
3. Is Wpml suitable for what I need? if so what version is it ?
Hi again Jane,
Yes, WPML doesn’t translate your content automatically but provides a way to create post/pages “containers” for different language content. This is what you expect I guess. Yes, you can easily add a language switcher to your sidebar. The Multilingual CMS version lets you translate all elements of your site, including image alternative texts for example. But you can start with the Blog version and upgrade to full version later, by paying only the difference, in case it turns out there is someting more you need.
Can WPML show a specific translation version dependent on the user’s IP address? So the customers from Hong Kong see the HK version (and prices) and customers from Singapore see the SG version (and prices)?
Hi Marcel,
in WPML there is a possibility to turn on (it is disabled by default) an option which will redirect your users to their lanague version based on their language set in their browser.
I would like to purchase WPML but prior to that, I would like to know if it also support English to Arabic translation? Where does one one see the list of languages offered by WPML?
Hello,
Thank you for your question. Yes, WPML supports Arabic. About the possibility to see the list of all languages. You are right. We should consider to create a separate item for it in our FAQ section. Thank you for indicating it.
Hi there!
I want to purchase the Multilingual CMS. Would I be able to update it to the Multilingual CMS Lifetime down the road? I mean paying just the difference between one and the other vs paying full price for the CMS Lifetime.
Please advise.
Thank you
Hi Amaia!
Yes, it’s possible and it works exactly as you expect: you will be able to upgrade to liftime license anytim,e by just paying a diffrence only. In your WPML account you will find an option for it.
I need to develop a bilingual website for a client which needs to have English (default) and Arabic. I have a few questions which unfortunately I cannot test myself due to not having WPML available.
The website (currently English only) is set up as follows:
– Pretty URLs with Permalinks set up as Post name.
– A custom post type named products (with a couple of additional fields to a normal post).
– Categories used to categorise products.
– Product image attachments using the Attachments Plugin
– Related products via the YARPP plugin
– Search (pages and products) via the Revelanssi plugin
Would I be able to keep my pretty URL permalinks with WPML and just switch the language using a URL parameter, such as:
(I don’t want the generated URL for the permalink to have Arabic characters even though the title in the Arabic version has it. I don’t want it to be /abc-2 either. I want it to be exactly the same, just with a different language parameter, and the user does not have to do anything to fix this manually or something of that sort.)
Will categories for the Arabic version be in sync with the categories for the English version? If the user adds/removes a category from the English version will it also be added/removed from the Arabic version?
Is there a way to synchronise attachments (images) to a product custom post type?
Would I be able to keep my pretty URL permalinks with WPML
Yes, this is possible. You should set English as primary language and then choose ‘Language name added as a parameter’ in WPML -> Languages ->
Language URL format.
Will categories for the Arabic version be in sync with the categories for the English version?
They will be in sync but only in a way that will allow to quickly switch between the language versions (both from back-end and front-end). When you add/delete a category, you have to do the same for the second language manually.
Is there a way to synchronise attachments (images) to a product custom post type?
thanks for your response. But a client from us use 3.1.5 and the website goes dramatically down. And any Topics in your support deal with this problem.
Can I use the money-back guarantee if this problem occurs?
I want to buy the wpml cms because of the good functions and documentation.
But I have heard and read from troubles with slow down the Servertime – sometimes up to 30-40 seconds for responding.
Hi,
We use wpml on our site for translations.
We would like to use the translation analytics wpml plugin http://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/translation-analytics-plugin/
We are thinking about purchasing The Translation Analytics module, can we buy this alone or do we buy the Multilingual CMS package.
It says, To use it, you also need to have the Translation Management module activated.
What is that?
Hi,
when you buy Multilingual CMS license, what you get is a package of modules (plugins). You can use only one, the most general but you can extend the functionality by other plugins as well. One of them is called ‘Translation Management module’. You install it the same way as all other WordPress plugins or using Automated Installation approach. More details here: http://wpml.org/faq/install-wpml/
I am creating a website in French for a client. For her shop, it seems the best solution is to use the Woocommerce WordPress plugin. Unfortunately I haven’t found this plugin in French.
For what I can read on your website, it seems that purchasing the WPML plugin could help me but after reading some articles on your website, I am afraid it’s gonna be tricky, also because I have never used the Woocommerce WordPress plugin before.
Later she’ll also need me to translate the french website all in Dutch.
So I have the Woocommerce pluggin that first needs to be translated from English to French and later that French version will need to be translated in Dutch. I am so scared there will be tons of errors and mistakes trying to do this?
Actually, another question that is not directly about WPML, you might know: she wishes to have a professionally looking shop so I’ll use the Woocommerce WP plugin however, she only wants that shop to act as a professional display of what people can buy when they physically come to her place. Is it possible, do you know? So she’d like that people cannot truly purchase products…
To display your store in a different language than English is a diffrent issue to making your store bilingual or multilingual.
For the first case you don’t need WPML at all. You only need WooCommerce plugin to include so called translation files (po/mo files). I can see that WooCommerce plugin is provoded with translation files in French:
woocommerce\i18n\languages\woocommerce-admin-fr_FR.mo
woocommerce\i18n\languages\woocommerce-admin-fr_FR.po
So make sure that you installed your WordPress using French install https://fr.wordpress.org/
and your WooCommerce plugin will be displayed in French out of the box.
For the second case (making your store multilingual) you will need WPML plugin and WooCommerce Multilingual plugin. Here we are talking about the case when your store is available in two or more language for your visitors. It will have a language switcher which let the visitor to switch between different language versions in the same domain.
You say, you are scared of tons of errors. Maybe this article will inspire you:
wpml.org/2014/03/build-online-store-different-languages-wordpress-wpml/
Answering your second question. Yes, this is possible and you don’t need a WooCommerce plugin at all. It will be a normal site displaying your products. You can use WooCommerce as well but not to show Buy buttons.
I installed WPML in my website but it didn´t work properly so I gave up and made a separate Chinese site instead. Now the plug-in has expired, so I don´t have access to the support tickets anymore. But I need one last thing since after uninstalling the plug-in from my site, now I get a fatal error calling the ICL_Translate Function (you can see http://www.andalusun.com for reference)
I deleted the function from the functions.php file but then I get the same mistake in header.php and so on.
How can I remove that function from all the places where it was installed and make my site work normally again?
It appears that you, or someone working on your theme, added some customizations which are referencing functions that belong to WPML. You can edit the theme’s source files, look for all these references and remove them.
I only worked on that with your colleagues from support and it is true we did some changes (a search for “andalusun” in the support page will display all my questions)
But I think I have been able to reverse everything except for what your colleague did here:
Can you please check “Main Services” section of your site now?
We had to suppress_filters => false argument to get_posts() in /includes/themes_shortcodes/shortcodes.php file.”
But I don´t know what that means, so I cannot reverse that.
Thanks a lot for your help, I really appreciate it.
I just buyed WPML on this page but i spelled my email wrong so i can’t login on your page now… I typed info@meganemedia.nl in stead of info@meganmedia.nl
Can you please check this and change my email so i can download the plugin 🙂
Hi Todd,
by default you will only see one ‘English’ language in the WPML language list. But in WPML seetings you can add new languages (WPML->Languages->Edit languages). en_US is your default locale but you can add more lanaguegs here. You can use en_GB for international.
Second question – see http://screencast.com/t/XppZmlrVdA for reference. Is it possible to split the language selection into to unique drop downs? For example, when English is selected, a second drop down would appear with “International” or “USA” but when another language, such as Spanish is selected the second drop down wouldn’t show?
Hi,
Have been a user for several years but now have a problem with translated page not appearing when second language is clicked (french).
However can’t log on to support because your site will not accept my account name.
Can you help by giving me appropriate account details
Hi Brian,
but your WPML license hasn’t expired yet, has it? Let us check your case in our system.
You can also use password recovery link: http://wpml.org/my-account/lost-password/
Hello,
We do our payment processing via PayPal and 2checkout. We don’t process credit cards manually. Maybe PayPal rejected your credit card. They have their own algorithms for fraud detection and they are usually accurate. If PayPal mistakenly blocked a legitimate payment, you can try buying via 2checkout.
Hi,
I was asked to create multilingual site for my department in my University. Now It will be only RU-EN but later we want add DE, CN etc.
In Russia State Universities are non-profit organizations. Is it possible and if yes – how can we get Multilingual CMS licence for free? Is it Ok if certificate that shows we’re a non profit organization (University) will be in Russian, or it should be in English?
And second question.
I’ve found that you have few sites in different languages, but blog in all of them the same – in English. I can’t fing info how to make it. I don’t want translate some part of site from Russian into other languages but I can’t duplicate them coz it will be many and many pages and posts. So I want make something like at your sites: part will be translated (mostly pages) part will be only in one language but it should be seen in all languages (sites) without duplication.
But few posts will be translated into all availiable languages and in blogroll shoud be visible only one copy at the needed language.
In reply to your first question
To apply for a free license, please fill out this form: http://wpml.org/purchase/non-profits/
Please don’t forget to attatch a certificate that shows you’re a non profit organization. If you don’t have it in English, give us what you have.
In reply to your second question
In WPML for each post/page you will find two options: 1. translate or 2.duplicate
When you choose the second one, your duplicated post will be the same as the original one. Whenever the original version is changed, your duplicated post will be automatically synchronized. You can always switch it off and translate independently.
You can also bulk duplicate posts in one go. Provided that you have “WPML Translation Management” installed (this is a plugin included in WPML CMS package), go under “WPML -> Translation Management -> Translation Dashboard”. Select the which documents to display and from the table below select them all. Scroll down to “Translation options” select “Duplicate content” and click on “Send documents”.
Can i use WPML plugin for more than one sites on different servers..?
Currently i am working on some wodpress projects and most of the them need muliple language support.
I was wondering if i could buy one bundle and use same for all my current and coming projects
Yes, you can use one WPML license for all the sites you build for you customers.
Will my WPML plugin (Multilingual Blog) stop working if I dont renew my account after 1 year?
Hi Deva.
No, it won’t stop working. But will not be have access to support forum and future updates.
I need country flags for choosen website languages to be inserted in menu at the very right side.
Is that possible with your plugin. May I use some trial version of your plugin before purchase?
Yes, you can achieve this with WPML. But probably (it depends on your theme) you will have to insert some code manually to your header.php file.

I am using two plugins for multi-language but did not work properly. My client want Belgium, Nederlands, Français, Español and english languages.

Hi there!
I want to purchase the Multilingual CMS. Would I be able to update it to the Multilingual CMS Lifetime down the road? I mean paying just the difference between one and the other vs paying full price for the CMS Lifetime.

– Categories used to categorise products.
– Product image attachments using the Attachments Plugin
– Related products via the YARPP plugin
– Search (pages and products) via the Revelanssi plugin
Would I be able to keep my pretty URL permalinks with WPML and just switch the language using a URL parameter, such as:
http://www.mydomain.com/product/abc
http://www.mydomain.com/product/abc?lang=ar
(I don’t want the generated URL for the permalink to have Arabic characters even though the title in the Arabic version has it. I don’t want it to be /abc-2 either. I want it to be exactly the same, just with a different language parameter, and the user does not have to do anything to fix this manually or something of that sort.)
Will categories for the Arabic version be in sync with the categories for the English version? If the user adds/removes a category from the English version will it also be added/removed from the Arabic version?
Is there a way to synchronise attachments (images) to a product custom post type?
Revelanssi seems to be compatible with WPML, according to http://wpml.org/plugin/relevanssi/
Does this mean that the it ensures that all search results pertain to the current language?
Similarly for YARPP, does it ensure that all related posts are in the version of the current language?
Thanks.
Yes, this is possible. You should set English as primary language and then choose ‘Language name added as a parameter’ in WPML -> Languages ->
Language URL format.
They will be in sync but only in a way that will allow to quickly switch between the language versions (both from back-end and front-end). When you add/delete a category, you have to do the same for the second language manually.

I cannot assure you about this one. It wasn’t tested with WPML in our plugin compatibility program.

Hi Markus, hi Again. Please see my answer above.
Hi,
We use wpml on our site for translations.

More details here:

Hi Linda,

and your WooCommerce plugin will be displayed in French out of the box.
For the second case (making your store multilingual) you will need WPML plugin and WooCommerce Multilingual plugin. Here we are talking about the case when your store is available in two or more language for your visitors. It will have a language switcher which let the visitor to switch between different language versions in the same domain.

Answering your second question. Yes, this is possible and you don’t need a WooCommerce plugin at all. It will be a normal site displaying your products. You can use WooCommerce as well but not to show Buy buttons.

http://wpml.org/forums/topic/english-and-chinese-posts-mixed-ii/
He said…
“Dear Raul,
Can you please check “Main Services” section of your site now?
We had to suppress_filters => false argument to get_posts() in /includes/themes_shortcodes/shortcodes.php file.”
But I don´t know what that means, so I cannot reverse that.
Thanks a lot for your help, I really appreciate it.
Regards,

Hi there
I have a client who needs a multi-lingual website, but for the English site, it needs to have two regions, USA or International.
Would I be able to handle this with WPML?
Thanks
Todd
Hi Todd,
by default you will only see one ‘English’ language in the WPML language list. But in WPML seetings you can add new languages (WPML->Languages->Edit languages). en_US is your default locale but you can add more lanaguegs here. You can use en_GB for international.
Ok. I think this answers the first question.
Thanks!
Yes, this is possible. You can create your language switcher manually and play with CSS (or JS if needed). These two docs will be helpful:
http://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/custom-language-switcher/
http://wpml.org/tutorials/language-switchers/
Hi,
Have been a user for several years but now have a problem with translated page not appearing when second language is clicked (french).
However can’t log on to support because your site will not accept my account name.
Can you help by giving me appropriate account details
Thanks
Brian
Hi Brian,
but your WPML license hasn’t expired yet, has it? Let us check your case in our system.
You can also use password recovery link:

Hello,
I’m trying to purchase lifetime WPML with my VISA and it’s not accepted (it’s all ok with my account)? Are you having some issues with VISA payments?
Thanks in advance…
Hello,
We do our payment processing via PayPal and 2checkout. We don’t process credit cards manually. Maybe PayPal rejected your credit card. They have their own algorithms for fraud detection and they are usually accurate. If PayPal mistakenly blocked a legitimate payment, you can try buying via 2checkout.
I hope it helps.
We are looking at purchasing a several theme options with Template monster. Some examples are:
http://www.templatemonster.com/demo/44492.html
http://www.templatemonster.com/demo/44814.html
http://www.templatemonster.com/wordpress-themes/48920.html
They cannot pledge that ANY plugin will work or be compatible with their themes. Would you be able to pledge that WMPL would work with these themes?
thanks
Kyle
Hello,
For each of the themes you listed, please go to ‘Template Details’ section
for example:
http://www.templatemonster.com/wordpress-themes/44814.html
go to ‘Technical Details’ tab
field: Features – you will find: WPML ready
the same you will find here:
http://www.templatemonster.com/wordpress-themes/44492.html
http://www.templatemonster.com/wordpress-themes/48920.html
To sum up: they all say that they are WPML ready.
Hi,
I was asked to create multilingual site for my department in my University.
Thx in advance
PS. Sorry if my English isn’t very clear.
Hi Shamil,
In reply to your first question
Here is more information about Translation Management: http://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/using-the-translation-editor/
