  1. Hi Guys

I have a question, thanks in advance:

    1. Can WPML be used as a translation management portal for general purposes (such as a small translation agency) and not just for translating the website it is attached to? In other words can it be provisioned to allow for Word, PDF files to be uploaded or linked and then allocated to translators who are signed up?

    Many thanks

  2. Hi Agnes,

Do you plan to offer a lifetime access to WPML Multilingual Blog (no need for the Multilingual version)

    Regards,

    Ducktape

  3. Hi

Can you please tell me what is the best moment to install WPML on WordPress. I mean, do I have to create website first in one language, and then instal, WPML to translate everything to other languages and active.
Or WPML should be installed just after I install and activate WordPress theme, before creating website ?

    Thanks

    • Hi

I see you are answering new posted questions and mine is still unanswered after 3 days. Can you please take a look.
      Thanks

    • Hi Robert, sorry for my late reply. I overlooked your questions. I’m sorry.

Answering your question. It doesn’t mater at all. You can add WPML later. When you install it will ask you what is the your site’s primary language.

Lots of our customers already have sites filled out with contents when they decide to install WPML.

  4. Hi.

I am using cloudflare. I would like to show my users the site in the language of the country where they are. Cloudflare works fine detecting the country of the user.

Its possible to make wpml work with the cloudflare country detector? (instead of the default language detector of WPML that works fine but its not tottaly accurate because i have many users that use their navigator in english but they are spanish speakers from Mexico for example.)

    Thanks.

    • Hi Juan,
      thank you for your question.

I’m sorry, the only option WPML supports right now for redirecting the users is redirecting visitors according to their browser language. This option is disabled by default but can be easily enabled in WPML settings.

I would recommend to make the langue switcher to stand out and be easy to notice. This will allow the user to switch to the right language but in addition to index your site well. Please also have all elements translated and by humans. This will help to index your site and you will get a lot of organic traffic from search engines leading directly to the pages in a user’s language.

  5. Hi, I can buy the for one year the plugin and if this works good to my website after the year can buy the lifetime plugin ?

    • Hi Chris,
yes, it works exactly as you expect: you can buy the yearly subscription and then upgrade to the Life version. You will pay the difference only. This will be possible 30 days before your current subscription expires. You will get an email notification. But you cannot miss your renewal.

    • Hi Mohammed,
If you mean the changes done in your WordPress back-end, the answer is: No, you won’t lose anything. You are safe.
But if you do any changes in your PHP source files of the WPML plugin, yes, they will be lost after the upgrade.

  6. hi,

We are looking for a solution that will allow us to have products displayed in woocommerce that have a different base currency.

for example our stores site base currency is AUD and we want to also import products that have a base currency of USD. the currencies of both product would need to be converted to all other enabled currencies. the user at the front end would then select a currency to view all products. and be able to filter products using prices: low to high or prices: high to low.

We need to be able to import these products via WP import All and populate the relevant base product currency fields. Each product would not always have a value entered directly into the sites base currency field AUD, the value would need to be converted from the imported products base currency like USD.

Summary: Our base site currency is AUD, products with base currencies would be AUD,USD,NZD & GBP. Front end prices would displayed in AUD,USD,NZD,GBP, SGD,JPY,CAD,EUR. product sorting would be based on one currency like AUD (sites base currency).

We would also look to use languages if required.

    Thanks Lee

    • Hi Lee,

sorry but meeting all your requirements is not possible with our WooCommerce Multilingual plugin.

You can have only one primary currency and then add other currencies with exchange rate based on the primary one. Also WP Import will not correctly import current custom user currency fields.

  7. Anges dear,

My client is in Brazil and I had created the site first in english.
Now we need to translate it to Portuguese.

I am using Elegant themes template.

I am a designer and a very visual person 🙂

Is there a video tutorial I could watch that would help me to visualize what exactly needs to be done to make the site available in 2 languages? It woudl be an amazing help if I could see how it is done.

Also, if I need technical help, do you have a support available? If yes, how does the support work?

Please, let me know + many thanks in advance!
    Julia

    • Dear Julia,
thanks for your interest in WPML.

      You should do the following:
      1. First check if the theme you are using is WPML fully compatible.
The good news is that most Elegant themes are fully compatible with WPML so you shouldn’t have problems. Here’s the detailed list.

      2. Please buy CMS or Lifetime version. You won’t translate all elements of the Elegant theme with the Blog version.

      3. Please download and install the WPML main plugin first (WPML Multilingual CMS).

      4. Great that your site’s primary language is English! Configuring WPML shouldn’t be a problem now. After installing WPML you need to select this one as the primary language of your site. And then add Portuguese.

The video included in the homepage
      https://wpml.org/

      covers the basic steps.

Of course our support people will help you if you get stuck. My suggestion, if you ask them for help just make it clear that you are a designer not a programmer and you need step by step instructions.

  8. I missed the renewal reminder email. I want to renew my previous year subscription and want to use the discount. Can you please activate the discount or provide me with a coupon to do that.

    • Hi saraV,

We will check in our systems if we sent you the notification email.

Anyway for people who missed their renewal we offer an option to upgrade for Lifetime at a reduced price. But you must be logged in your WPML account to see this link.

    • Hi Sara,
we checked your case in our system. And indeed we didn’t send the 30 days notification. You were late only a couple of days so we decided to extend your license for a few more days to let you upgrade using the reduced price.

So please log into your WPML again and follow the relevant link. You have a few days.

  9. Hi,

Before I purchase your plugin I need to know the following:

    1. Is it possible for post/page comments to only appear in the language version of the post it was made?

    2. Is it possible to send an e-mail notification to the relevant language editor when a comment is submitted?

    /Elin

    • Hi Elin,
      thank you for your question.

      1. Yes. This is exactly how these pre-sales consultations comments work.
      2. No. This won’t happen automatically.

  10. we run a small website in Word Press. we want to translate it into Chinese. we have hired translators because it is a medical site, so we need specialist translation.

we were looking for a way to export the content automatically, have it translated and then import in bulk back into the system. is this possible? we are trying to avoid manual entry of content.

looking forward to hearing from you at your soonest convenience. we are hoping to start work next week. thank you in advance, Betsy

    • WPML lets you work with translators exactly like you are describing. The Translation Management module includes XLIFF export/import. You will be able to send any content from WordPress to your translators. They will receive emails with XLIFF attachments. When they finish to translate, you can create a ZIP file with the translated XLIFF files and upload back to WordPress.

      We explain it here:
      https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/using-desktop-cat-tools/

IF you are new to XLIFF, this is the file format that most translators prefer to work with. It allows them to use their own desktop software to translate conveniently. If your translators don’t use translation software, you can also let them work from inside the WordPress admin and translate using WPML’s translation editor.

      Does this help?

  11. Hello Agnes,

Im thinking on buying the WPML plug in. But before that, I have two questions:

    1. Is is fully compatible with DIYTheme Thesis 2?

    2. Can I buy the Multilingual CMS the first year and then upgrade to the Multilingual CMS perpetual for the price difference?

    Thank you very much!

    • Hi Inigo,
      1. Sorry, no, it wasn’t tested by our team. Some of our customers use it, some have issues. Depends on what you use and your context. If you want to give it a try, you can test yourself. We have refunds policy:
      https://wpml.org/purchase/refunds-policy/
      so there is no risk.
      2. Yes, it works exactly like you described.

  12. Hi there,
    I have some questions :
    – Firstly is have wpml support to the different mail languages for wp and woocommerce ? and how it’s select user lang and send mail ?
    – Is Wpml can change language on the woocommerce product content and currency (polylang just redirect another product but we have limited (Stock attribute) product so it must be same product just we want change the content lang and currency)
    – Is wpml work on php pages out of the wordpress (same domain and host just not created with wp )

    • Right now, WPML doesn’t make WooCommerce send emails in the user’s language. This is something that we are working on, but is not yet complete.

WPML does let you translate WooCommerce products. If you translate products, visitors will be able to switch the language of products when they view them.

WPML only lets you translate the content that’s inside of WordPress. Any other content that is not created with WordPress cannot be translated with WPML.

  13. Hi Agnes,

You migth have miss my previous question so trying again.

Do you plan to offer a lifetime access to WPML BASIC Multilingual Blog ?

We are using only 2 language and we have no need for the Full Multilingual version since we do the translation ourself.

    Regards,

    Ducktape

    • Hi,
I’m sorry but no such plans. So, if you don’t want to pay each year you need to upgrade to CMS (you will pay the difference only) first and then to Lifetime (again you will pay the difference only). But don’t worry about the extra modules – they are optional and you don’t have to install them.

If you are interested in upgrading to CMS/lifetime please remember to do it from your WPML account. You will find relevant links there.

  14. Hi, I wanted to purchase your plugin for my wordpress site but your payment system seems to be having an issue. I have tried my credit card from Korea, from Indonesia, I even got my developer to try his credit card just to make sure that it’s not my browser or computer or account.

I need to purchase your plugin quite soon as we are nearing the end of development.

What other way can I make a purchase?

    • In our purchase page, you can choose between PayPal and 2checkout. Sometimes, the fraud protection algorithms of one of the payment processors mis-fires and decides that a legitimate client is attempting a fraud. This is very rate, but can happen. If PayPal or 2checkout doesn’t let you complete your payment, can you try the other one?

When you go to the purchase page, select your package. Then you arrive at the checkout page, asking for your name and email. At the bottom of this page, you can choose the payment processor. Select the ‘other one’ and continue. Let me know if you need more help.

  15. Hi,
I wanted to buy WPML for our company, but after entering EU VAT the VAT amount was not deducted from original amount. In EU VAT should not be added to total amount when we pay.

    How we can buy it?

  16. Hi
Just thinking about purchasing WPML and want to make sure that I don’t need additional addons/extensions to make it work fully. It’s important that I make it clear to my client that all that is needed will be included in my quote.
    Thanks
    Lyse

    • Hi Lyse,
thank you for your question. What do you mean by “work fully”? Please note that WPML doesn’t translate your contents automatically. It is also good to check in advance if your theme is WPML compatible.

      This list helps
      https://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/

If it’s not you will still be able to translate most of your site’s elements (for sure the basic ones such as posts, pages, menus, categories etc) but you might have some issues with theme custom options.

  17. Hi there,

Please advise if we can have different menu items shown in some languages. For example, we offer more services in one country than another, so I might want 5 sub menu items under services in Spanish, but only 3 sub menu items under services in English. Please confirm if this is possible and if you have any documentation on how to do this.

    Thanks,
    Lisa

  18. I am trying to run a freelance marketplace site on WordPress that will be in both Chinese and English depending on the user’s display language. Each freelancer profile, employer profile, project title and description, and project workspace communications will need to be translated into both languages.

The problem is that with using a plugin like WPML, each project will be split up into a separate post for each language. I am not sure exactly the extent that WPML is able to “sync” posts, and that is important because in this marketplace, an employer posts a project, in which a freelancer then views it and makes a bid. The project manager then accepts the best bid from a freelancer and they both enter a project workspace in which they can communicate in. If all posts are kept separate, and have separate URLs, wouldn’t the functions for making a bid, accepting a bid, and the workspace be separate and therefore broken as well?

Anyone have this problem before? Is there a solution just for this sort of problem that is hiding out there?

    Thank you!!

    • Hi George,
look at your WordPress site in terms of different building blocks. So you have: posts, pages, custom post types, custom fields, categories, taxonomies etc to store your contents. Now WPML lets you translate each of these elements. I don’t know how the elements are put together in your site and if you are using something else to store your contents. But as far as you are using these standard WordPress elements you will be able to translate them all with WPML. From an end-user perspective it means that whenever he/she browses a page in a given language WPML will provide them the relevant translation.

      Did I answer your question?

    • A valid account is needed to receive our support and download updates. If you don’t renew, the plugin will continue working on your sites and you can even install on new sites. We recommend to all clients to have valid accounts, so that you can use the most recent versions.

We release versions frequently. Our version updates cover WordPress changes, new features, bug fixes, better performance and security.
