Is it possible to only translate certain sections of a page?
ie. I have an english and a french version of my site. I have a translated french version of our about us page already, however I needed to make template format changes to the French version and not the English version, so they are no longer a 1 to 1 match. Does WPML recognize these differences and can still recognize NEW changes to the english version? If so, how does the translation service work if the copy that is translated are in different areas of the page. Or can you only support pages that are identical in template styling. I hope this makes sense and I look forward to a reply.
Hi Henson,
thank you for your question. I’m not sure if I fully follow you so let me explain how WPML works.
1. WPML doesn’t translate your contents automatically.
2. WPML doesn’t support the so called “side by side” translations – when you have texts in two languages on the same page (Google doesn’t like it either).
3. You create a post/page in one language and then you create its “copy” in another one. You can do insert the translation yourself or you can send it to one of the translations services (currently there are two services integrated with WPML, both paid).
If my answer doesn’t help could you please contact me again and explain what you mean by “the copy that is translated are in different areas of the page”?
1. I have a page in English
2. I use WPML and let’s say CloudWords to translate the page, so essentially I have an English version of the page and a French version on a different TLD.
3. Let’s say a week later I make edits to the French page by moving a section of copy lower on the page.
-How does WPML deal with these change going forward?
-Are the 2 pages still synced because copy has not changed, just moved around?
-Will they no longer be able to be synced because I moved a section around and all edits need to be placed in manually?
Hello, I would like to know if this plugin converts the content or if it a dynamic translation only. I’m looking for a translation plugin that can completely translate from English to Spanish but to keep the content translated so that I can also rank in Spanish search engines. Can your plugin do this?
WPML doesn’t translate content automatically. It lets you translate yourself or send content to professional translation services. You should know that Google very much discourages the use of machine translation as your content. You can use free Google translation by inserting the Google wizard, but this doesn’t get you indexed in other languages. The only way to get indexed in other languages (and not penalized by Google) is to translate your content manually.
WPML allows you to run multilingual WordPress sites. It doesn’t automatically translate the content for you. If you are translating yourself, you don’t need to pay any extra. If you need help with professional translation, you can get that from translation services, at an additional cost.
I was interested in purchasing the license for the Multilingual Blog but wanted to make sure it would translate the sidebar areas (widgets) as well as the basic page content and posts. I know the next license up says widgets, but I wasn’t sure if it meant the sidebar area or something else (may be dumb but I need to make sure before purchasing the wrong item).
Hi Shawna,
you will be able to translate your widgets with WPML and your pages/posts but please note that WPML doesn’t translate content automatically. It provides you with the interface that makes posting in different languages easy but you translate contents yourself or send your content to professional translation services. Human made translations will be appreciated by Google and other search engines and will help to rank your site better.
I would like to buy WPML. I am looking at $79 Multilingual CMS, due to the limited budget. I would like to upgrade to $195 before 1 year ends, so does that mean I can just pay the differences of $116 later on (before 1 year subscription is finished)?
Hope to hear from you soon and thank you in advance! Cheers…
Hi Yulia Magdalena,
yes, our subscription upgrading system works exactly as you described. So you can start with the CMS subscription and then, 30 days before your yearly subscription expires you will be able to upgrade to the Lifetime license by paying the difference only.
I’m setting up a website for a client, and I was planning on testing out the WPML plugin so I am wondering how licensing works: are there any issues if I buy and register the plugin – or should I register directly in the client’s name when I buy it?
You register WPML under your name. Then you can use it for all your customers. Each site that will use WPML might be registered in your WPML account but this is optional (to update WPML to new versions in an easy way).
Hi Mchael,
it depends on how your Listing descriptions were implemented. WPML allows you to translate different elements: also custom post types, custom fields etc.
You can also buy WPML and test it yourself. Our refunds policy allows you to test it for 30 days and we will refund your oder if you are not completely satisfied.
I would like to build a bilingual website and I really like wpml as a solution. The thing is I live in Greece and with the current banking situation I cannot send any money abroad. Is there a way for me to be able to get your plugin so I can keep working on developing my website? Do you perhaps maintain a Greek bank account or is there another way to work around this?
Hi Ronnie,
what do you mean by “free plugin”? WPML is a paid plugin. It was free years ago but for sure the old version won’t work with current WordPress release. Yes, you will be able to bulk duplicate your posts with WPML. For this you need the CMS or Lifetime subscription – they include the “Translation Management” module that supports bulk duplication.
I have the Multilingual CMS version of $ 79 on October 10, 2015 – purchased. Would still like the Multilingual CMS Lifetime of $ 195, – in its place purchase. What must we do to make arrangements.
You can always upgrade to a Lifetime account. To do this, log in to your existing account (even if it’s expired). On the right hand column, you will see a button to upgrade to Lifetime. When you upgrade, you only need to pay the difference ($116).
We made a Woocoommerce integration in one of our multilingual sites (we are using Polylang).
Polylang is not 100% compatible with WC, but we need it for the ‘corporative’ part of the site: can we use WMPL to manage the Woocommerce part (products, accounts, checkout, etc)?
We know WMPL can handle everything but, in this case, keeping the Polylang development is a must.
Hi Facun,
maintaing these two plugins on the same site isn’t a good idea. Even if it work technically it will be very tricky for the end user not to mix these two interfaces (everything will be doubled). But you can test it yourself if you want. Our refund policy allows you to test WPML for 30 days and if you are not completely satisfied we will refund your order. https://wpml.org/purchase/refunds-policy/
Hi I purchased WPML CMS and it did not function well on my site. So I requested and got a refund. Now I have another coder who wants to give this a try for my site. I’m willing to purchase again, but what if he too cannot fix the problem? Can I still get a refund again or would I be stuck with the plugin?
i just want to purchase this plugin and integrate with the wordpress buddypress. i need to add a sinhala(sri lankan language) as a 1st or 2nd option.. can i do it with this plugin ?
hi im using Book Your Travel WordPress The an im whant to Know if i purchase your Multilingual CMS will it ranslate EVERY THING IN the theme ?? including my posts and information ?
Hi Galin,
the theme authors say that this theme is WPML compatible but it wasn’t tested by our “Compatibility Team” so I cannot confirm that all the elements will work without any issues. Most of the elements do work with WPML but sometimes there are theme dependent options that require special treatment. You can check it out yourself. Our refunds policy allows you to test WPML for 30 days and if you are not completely satisfied we will give your money back https://wpml.org/purchase/refunds-policy/
I’ve already used WPGlobus and Poedit for a lot of my translations, but unfortunately am unable to translate specific form fields using an automotive theme I’ve purchased that recommends WPML. If I upgrade to WPML am I going to have to do everything all over again or can I simply deactivate WPGlobus and activate WPML for a seamless transition that will allow me to still use the /en format for English.
Hi Kevin, the WPGlobus guys say that switching from WPML to WPGlobus is possible but requires manual work so I suspect that the same applies when you want to switch from WPGlobus to WPML. But we didn’t test it. How about if you buy WPML and check it yourself? Our refunds policy allows you to test WPML for 30 days and is risk-free: we will give your money back if you are not completely satisfied. No questions asked. https://wpml.org/purchase/refunds-policy/
Hi I have bought Multilingual CMS 2 yrs ago, then expired now. If i upgrade to Lifetime account $116 as your offer, can I get new file to download ? Because I don’t have the file any more….
I asked a pre-sales question earlier and I cannot find a response to it despite the fact that it was asked prior to some of the other questions. This was just a seamless integration question regarding my current solution since that doesn’t seem to be working out too well. What gives? Can you email me if for some reason my question wasn’t worth answering publicly?
Okay sorry my last comment was related to me not understanding the time difference. I assumed this was an American plugin for some reason. My apologies.
Hi Kevin, yes that was the time difference. I have just answered your question. By the way we are a global company. You can find out more about us here: https://www.onthegosystems.com/

did you try both ways we offer? PayPal and Credit Card? Did you fail on both?
Sadly yes, since all transactions that include sending money off the country are currently blocked for Greek citizens.
I uploaded the free plugin but I do not see the option to do a mass duplicate of my posts. If I upgrade will that feature be available?

Hi,
Here’s a list of languages that come pre-configured with WPML:
https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/pre-configured-languages/
inhala (sri lankan language) is not present on that list but WPML allows you to add more languages:

Please note that WPML doesn’t translate your contents automatically.
Here are some instructions for using WPML with buddyPress
