Hello,
We’ve got a website made with a Wootheme : Cityguide and with a Booking plugin from http://wpbookingcalendar.com, we are looking for a multilingual plugin for a while … Do WPML can work easily with this environment ? Thank you for your answer ;=)
WPML and WooThemes themes work well. When there’s any issue, the WooThemes developers are always very responsive and we sort out the problems together. I’m not sure about the Booking plugin. We’d be very happy to work on this together with the other developers and see how things behave together. Can you check if they’re interested too?
I’m looking for a plugin or that will allow me to write posts in two languages – or – one if it’s something I don’t want to translate. If I buy WPML – will I be able to say publish a post in German but not in English and vice visa? Or if I want to publish it in both languages? If I publish it in German only I don’t want it to be seen on the english site.
Yes. You can translate parts of the site that you want. Translated content will appear in each language. Of course, you can translate everything, but that’s up to you.
Cool, thanks. So if I publish a post in German it won’t show up at all in the English version if I don’t translate it – correct? What about pages? Will I be able to for example show a certain page on for people who visit my English site?
Do I need the Multilingual version or the standard version of WPML? It’s one site using Classipress theme. You told me last week you have a testing version ready, will that version be able to translate everything? Can’t seem to translate categories now with the old version (or doing something wrong).
I did send a message to Appthemes that you had the test ready but no answer from them unfortunately.
We haven’t gotten much progress with ClassiPress folks. As their paying client, would you like to remind them that we exist and are looking to make WPML and their themes compatible? We also reminded them, but no reply. Busy folks…
Well, I keep sending messages but without effect so far. Let’s hope they respond soon. The current WPML version can translate the standard pages but ad-categories not unfortunately.
We are looking into WPML for the moment and features seem to fill our needs, but have some questions.
1. It’s possible to give user different role for specificity language? Where users have admin role and can only write in language X and can’t write in language Y. When another admin user only can write in language Y. And so on…
2. We can write and publish text in language X while language Y will be published later? And language Y will have same published date as language X too if it published later?
We’re looking forward to use it as soon we get answer on our questions.
We synchronized the published date on purpose, because that’s what almost everyone asked for. You can control it in WPML->Translation Management->Multilingual content setup. Look for ‘Copy publishing date to translations’.
BuddyPress Multilingual adds the language switcher to your BuddyPress site and lets visitors switch languages. It translates the activity stream and several other key BuddyPress features. Normally, people use WPML Multilingual CMS version, so that they can translate everything, including widgets and non-post texts.

I want to set up a WordPress multisite that will be managed using the Thesis framework. Plugins installed include gravity forms, and premise for landing pages and member management.
Will WPML work with all these settings and components?
WPML works fine on Multisite installs, with Thesis and Gravity Forms. I haven’t tested with Premise, but I really see no reason for issues. It might be good to ask StudioPress folks to check it with us. If they’re interested, we’ll be happy to review this together and make sure that it’s working smooth.
As a paying Premise customer, you’re in the best position to ask them for cooperation. We’re happy to work with StudioPress folks.
You cannot install ANY plugin on WordPress.com, so no, you cannot use WPML too. To install plugins, including WPML, you need to host your own WordPress site.
WPML should work with these themes, but we haven’t fully tested it. We’re interested, but the folks from ElegentThemes appear busy. If you’re a paying ElegantThemes clients, ask them to check with us. We’re very interested.
Can this plugin help with mirroring the content between two sites? I’ve heard this is a good widget for what I need.
I have a classifieds ads website and want to know if this widget will help mirror the ads from one site on another site, one website is an english version and the other a dutch version.
Why would you like to mirror content? With WPML, you can run both languages from one site. WPML doesn’t have anything to synchronize content between different WordPress installs.
Basically, I would like to put my own translation in and the only way I see I can do this is with two similar but (backend-wise) seperate websites. Therefore, the ads on the english site, also needs to be displayed on the dutch website exactly the same and when someone posts a classified instantly. So I need a mirroring solution unless your software does something I am looking for.
Honestly, I wouldn’t know how to handle something like that. We really need to work with the AppThemes folks on making WPML and their themes fully compatible. We started on that, but it got stuck. Do you want to remind them about this and we’ll see if we can restart that process?
Hello i have installed a theme in my wordpress website, but have a problem. I have translate all file of theme ( file php ) in italian , but some functions of theme not work.I was also wondering if you can translate or tell me how to translate the administrator side without changing the php file. I tried using poedit and edit files .po in Italian, but the administrator side is in English. If i use WPML , be possible to translate the theme (including administrator side) so that I can see all of the admin side in Italian? or WPML translate only theme ?
David
This really depends on how the theme was created. Normally, texts in the theme would be wrapped in GetText calls and you should be able to translate them. WPML lets you translate content in posts, pages, categories, tags, widgets and everything else that WordPress creates. However, if the theme has hard-coded strings, they would still not be translatable. You can refer the theme author to us and we’ll check the theme together with him.
Hello, thanks for a reply, the theme is this : http://www.dailywp.com/demo/?product_id=1653
Say me if is possibile translate admin area ( only theme lang , because wp is il italian ).
I saw the theme admin side and WPML plugin is installed, and I saw that you can translate the strings, including those that belong to the administrator side. But I would like to know, after being translated, as we do to get the admin side all in Italian? I have to add some files and then automatically translates into?
Thanks
Hi, we are currently investigating for WP multilingual solutions and WPML seems to be the right one.
But we have a particular question : the site must be in 4 languages, 3 with Latin letters (French, English, Espanol) and Arabic.
I see WPML gives the ability to search in the language you browse the website, but does it work for non-Latin written languages?
Yes. WPML will work fine for languages with non-Latin characters. If you notice, you’ll see that our own site is also translated to Chinese, Japanese and English. All these languages use non-Latin characters. Make sure that your DB uses utf-8 character encoding and everything will work fine.
Hello my name is Sandra from World University Service of Canada (WUSC) a non-profit organization in Canada. We want to download the WPML plugin for another site we’ve created (forum.anishparmar.com).
I understand you have to register as a non-profit to get WPML free of charge. However we’re on a time crunch and we were wondering if we could purchase our package today ($79) as well as register as a non-profit and then be reimbursed later?
That’s really painful for us. It takes work to review these non-profit requests and issue refunds. While you want to get WPML for free, you’re just going to cause us extra work. The non-profits queue is pretty reasonable length now. Please submit there and we’ll do our best to reach your request quickly. Thanks.
What is the policy about commercial use ? I’m a freelancer and often make wordpress sites. Can I buy your product and install multiple copies for each of my clients without them having to buy the product ?
Yes, this is exactly what most of our customers do. 90% of WPML customers are professional website developers and install WPML on their client sites. You can use WPML on all your client sites. Of course, we ask that you restrict usage to your clients.
We are going to create a new website for a client and we want to use WPML to have different languages, but we have three questions:
1. Is WPML compatible with Yoothemes? We have read different opinions about it and they do not completely agree, so we would like to know it from you (which gives us more guarantee).
2. One of the languages is Russian, is there any problem with it?
3. I have already read that posts can be in one language and not in another, but what about pages? Can I have 5 pages in one language and 7 pages in another? With other plugins it is understood as duplicated content for Google or another searchers, which penalize the page.
1. YooThemes compatibility is a tricky question. The themes are compatible with WPML. However, much of the advertised functionality of these themes comes from a plugin that they wrote, which isn’t fully multilingual-ready. We talked about it with YooThemes author before and they don’t seem to give this very high priority. Maybe if enough of their paying clients ask for it, they will spend the time to make their mega-plugin multilingual-ready.
2. WPML will work fine with Russian. Make sure that your database uses UTF-8 character encoding and everything will work smooth.
3. You can create pages in any language without restriction. If you want, you can translate all content, or some of the content or even have completely different content in different languages. WPML also tells Google where the source of duplicate content comes from. If you decide to have the same content in several languages, there shouldn’t be a problem for Google, because WPML clearly tells Google which is the original. This is pretty normal for some sites. In some cases, there’s no logic in translating parts of the site.
I finally found where to contact you before purchasing this plugin 🙂
It all sounds very good but one thing that is important is if it is possible to edit the translated text if we want a different translation? Or is the text “locked” after hitting the translation button?
Sure you can. You can translate and edit it as much as you like. Translated content is same as original content. It’s stored in the WordPress ‘posts’ table and you can edit it normally. Have a look here for how you can translate with WPML: http://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/
WPML should work with Artisteer themes, but we haven’t fully tested it. If you buy WPML and need any help, our support folks will do everything they can. If you discover any compatibility issues and cannot use WPML, we’ll refund your payment.
I’m not 100% sure about Headway 2.x. We’ve carefully tested WPML with the current Headway version and it works great, but it’s difficult for us to work with an older and unsupported version of the theme. I know that many people still use Headway 2 and that migration to Headway 3 is difficult, but it’s also very difficult for us to do that testing.
I haven’t tested it, but others have reported some issues with Headway 2. Since the Headway team is no longer supporting that version, there’s not much we can do about it.
Can I get translation within English, Arabic, Urdu, Farsi and Chinese?
I will be developing my site in English and I need to get my site translated in all above languages. Some times I will be posting few posts in Urdu language which I want to be available in all above languages including English.
Sure. That’s exactly what WPML is for. You can translate all content, or some of the content, and even create some content in some languages directly (not translations of anything). Make sure that your database uses the default UTF-8 charset, so that characters will display correctly in all these languages.
1) For how-many domain i can use this purchase CMS-WPML? (can i use it for my development server after wards i will upload it on Client’s server ?)
2) some of the sites providing WPML-CMS 2.4.1 for free (i don’t know whether it is working plugin and supproted of not), if some user used this free version (2.4.1), is there any issue in live site? of course they will not get “supprot” and “future update”
You can use WPML to build as many sites as you need. It’s a tool for professional web developers and we assume that you will want to build different sites for different clients.
There’s no ‘free’ version. The last version that was on wordpress.org is from almost two years ago. It was created before WordPress 3 and is completely not functional for current WordPress versions. If you’re building sites for your clients, you should really use the current version, which is a lot better, more solid, secure and fast.
Correct. You can use WPML on different domains. WPML 2.4.1 is about 3 months old. I think that you’re referring to WPML 2.0.4.1, which was the last version released on WPORG. That WPML 2.0.4.1 doesn’t run at all on WordPress 3.3 or WordPress 3.4.
If you got WPML 2.4.x for free, you should be very careful about that. I would never ever run plugins on my site that I don’t know where they came from. I can assure you that it didn’t come for free from us. If you got it ‘for free’ from somewhere else, ask yourself why they’re giving it away, and what they might have added to it.
Hi
I would like to know if WPML can be used on a single instance of WordPress (not MU-enabled) with multiple domains with a different language (only one WordPress structure, but multiple domains, and one language per domain).
I’ve read through your descriptions and much of the pre-sales forum and am still a bit confused by the differences in the two packages. I have used qTranslate in the past, but am told that you product is likely better.
I need:
1. Ability to write posts and other content in at least two languages (EN, LV and possibly a few others).
2. Ability for website visitors to click on a flag button to change the language of not only the posts, but things like the widget headings, blogroll links, META links and other “system” text.
3. Option to have the backend be in another language, but this is not a deal-breaker.
Currently, qTranslate does all of the above, but I do need to manually edit the dual names for things like widget headings, blogroll links, etc. by putting both names in the titles with coding separating the various languages.
Also, if this makes a difference, the site would be for my kid, a young (school-age) artist and, at least for the forseeable future, won’t be revenue generating. Since it is basically a student site, would that be considered non-profit? (The $29 package isn’t a big deal, but since it is coming out of her pocket the $79 would be more difficult)
You probably need the CMS package. The String Translation module lets you translate all the ‘system’ texts, which are not part of a specific post or page, such as widgets.
Just so I’m explaining correctly, I don’t need WPML to translate the widget titles for me, but it needs to know how to switch the titles when the language switches.
With qTranslate, which I previously used, it would grab the .MO file for the language from the WP Localization Repository and that was it. It was enough to change the backend language, the META widget (login, register, etc.) and it allowed for me to submit multiple language versions for not only widget titles (or things like the blogroll title) AND the link names. For example, if I had a link to other office locations, it would say “United States” in English, but if you switched to Spanish, it would say “Estados Unidos.” I had to provide the translations, but the switching was automatic.
Themes and plugins load .mo files themselves. They call ‘load_theme_textdomain’ and ‘load_plugin_textdomain’. qTranslate auto-downloads .mo files for you and WPML currently doesn’t do that. You should go to the WP localization project and download the .mo file to wp-includes/languages. It’s a one-time operation. We’re looking at adding this operation to WPML too, but it’s not a critical thing, as people need to download these .mo files once and that’s it.
Once placed in the right directory, WordPress loads it .mo file without any help. Neither qTranslate nor WPML do that. It’s a core WordPress operation. WPML sets the correct locale, so that WordPress, themes and plugins load the correct .mo files.
So, once I download and install the proper .MO file, WPML will use that file for translating things like the META widget?
That doesn’t answer my second question, though… Can I manually give things like links, widget titles, pages, etc. different names for each language? I don’t need them machine translated. I just need to have language switching control the link descriptions.
Meta widgets are dynamic texts and they are probably translated with WPML’s String Translation and not .mo files. .mo files contain translation for static texts (found in PHP code). Once you install the .mo files, they will be used for strings in the PHP.
You’ll be able to translate widget titles, strings in the WP admin and other non-post texts using WPML’s String Translation. For anything that’s part of a post (post, page, custom types, custom fields) or taxonomy (tags, categories and custom taxonomy), you use the features in WPML core.
So, to confirm, if I want WPML to change things like link names in a blogroll when the language changes, I have to have the $79 “pro” package. Correct?
Again, I’m not asking it to do the translation. When I use qTranslate and create a new link for the blogroll, I enter, for example “[:en]Germany[:lv]Vācija” in the NAME field. The WEB ADDRESS and DESCRIPTION remain the same. When the site language is English, the link says “GERMANY.” When the language is Latvian, the link says “VĀCIJA.”
Will I be forced to use WPML’s machine translation or can I enter what the link name (or other text) should be in each language?
That isn’t an answer to my question. I’m glad that “almost everyone” buys your $79 product, but the site I’m building is a personal / not-for-profit site for a young artist, so every dime counts.
Could you please tell me — yes or no — if the standard WPML is capable of handling the switching for the descriptions of links in a blogroll?
Can I define what the link name/description should be in each language?
You can buy the $29 version and put together some code, yourself, that will handle these few texts. It’s going to be a lot easier with WPML’s String Translation, but doable with some PHP without it. Anyway, if you buy the $29, you can upgrade to the full version later and pay the difference. Does this answer the question?

1. For managing translators, I strongly recommend using WPML’s Translation Management module. It has a complete workflow for managing translators and lets you control who does what. Have a look here:
http://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/using-the-translation-editor/
2. Yes. You can set languages as ‘hidden’, edit them until you’re happy and then publish at once. See here:
http://wpml.org/tutorials/adding-another-language-to-your-site-privately/
Folllow up: Will the later version have a true publishing date? Not just copy the publishing date of the “original” language?
We synchronized the published date on purpose, because that’s what almost everyone asked for. You can control it in WPML->Translation Management->Multilingual content setup. Look for ‘Copy publishing date to translations’.
Takk!
Can I buy “Multilingual Blog” version and then upgrade to “Multilingual CMS” later (if I’ll need it)?
Yes. You can buy the Blog version and then update to the full CMS version. You’ll only pay the difference.
I am creating a buddy press site and using the BuddyPress Multilingual plugin
I need to add users at time of register choice of language (English, Polish, German).
Will this plugin fulfill my requirement ?
also all the buddy press section will be converted to that language .
will the Multilingual Blog version fulfill my requirements?
please reply asap.
thanks.
I’m not sure that I understand your question. What are you trying to do with users and languages?
ok leave that but rest of the requirements.
just clarify that. buddypress account will be translated to selected language.
and which version i need to buy?
BuddyPress Multilingual adds the language switcher to your BuddyPress site and lets visitors switch languages. It translates the activity stream and several other key BuddyPress features. Normally, people use WPML Multilingual CMS version, so that they can translate everything, including widgets and non-post texts.
ok thanks. i will ask my client to buy it.

does the plubin handles arabic?
Arabic is not a problem, as long as you are using utf-8 character encoding (the default character encoding set by WordPress).
Hello,
It is possible to have a different domain for every language. EXample. http://www.english.com for english translation, http://www.spanish.com for spanish translation etc.?
Thank you
Yes. Possible and very popular. You can arrange content in completely different domains or subdomains.
Thank you for your answer. Where I can read how this work? Do I need to install wordpress and your translation plugin on every other domain?
Sorry, I forgot to paste the link before. Have a look here:
http://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/
Look under ‘Language URL format’.
You only install WPML once and then add more domains to the same WordPress install. This FAQ explains how to configure it in the DNS and Apache:
http://wpml.org/faq/server-setting-for-languages-in-different-domains/
Thank you

Sure you can. You can translate and edit it as much as you like. Translated content is same as original content. It’s stored in the WordPress ‘posts’ table and you can edit it normally. Have a look here for how you can translate with WPML:

Plugin work with Artisteer 3.0 Standar??? Thx
WPML should work with Artisteer themes, but we haven’t fully tested it. If you buy WPML and need any help, our support folks will do everything they can. If you discover any compatibility issues and cannot use WPML, we’ll refund your payment.
Hi. I have three questions:
First, can I use WPML pro with Headway 2.x?
Second, can I easily put the icon to trigger the translation in the menu?
Third, how does your translator engine compare with Google?
Thanks in advance for your help, Alan
2 questions
1) For how-many domain i can use this purchase CMS-WPML? (can i use it for my development server after wards i will upload it on Client’s server ?)
2) some of the sites providing WPML-CMS 2.4.1 for free (i don’t know whether it is working plugin and supproted of not), if some user used this free version (2.4.1), is there any issue in live site? of course they will not get “supprot” and “future update”
Thanks, Waiting for you answers!
If you’re building sites for your clients, you should really use the current version, which is a lot better, more solid, secure and fast.
thanks Amir,
so it is not for single domain license, i can use for multiple sites right?
and for 2nd question, i saying that some of the sites providing Free version of WPML-2.4.1 ( i can understand that it’s cracked version)
Thanks
So, WPML can’t use .MO files for translation?
You should probably buy the $79 version. Almost everyone buys that.
