Hello,
What is the difference between your plugin “WooCommerce Multilingual & Multicurrency with WPML” and your regular WPML plugin?
is the first one free and can it still use automatic translations?
From a seo point of view, is it better to have a more geo focused domain for each language or is the subdirectory just as good?
F.eg, I have a .dk website which is the danish extension. Can I point a .eu domain to the same website where it shows all other languages except danish? Would that be possible with WPML and is it better for seo?
It is always better to have a geo focused domain for each language, but it is also more expensive to mantain. So it depends on the budget
Regarding the other question, it’s not possible, if you select the domain per language option, you need a domain for each language.
However, something that you could do is the following:
domain.dk domain for Danish
domain.eu domain for the rest of langauges with subdomains
es.domain.eu domain for Spanish
fr.domain.eu domain for French
Hi, my company is interested in using WPML with TransPerfect, but we would like to test the WPML plugin on our website before moving forward because we have some unique configurations and several other plugins. Is there a free version or test version that we can use to test this to ensure it will fit our needs and work with our website properly?
Hello Kylie,
Thanks for your email. We don’t have free versions of WPML but you can try it for 30 days and if it doesn’t suit your needs, we will issue you a refund. https://wpml.org/purchase/refunds/
Thanks a lot for your reply Mercedes.
I’m not sure how I can reply directly on your thread so hope you see this 🙂
Ok, so if I had to follow your suggestion with geo focused domains. Leaving the .dk site for danish and then create a .eu for the rest of the languages (with subdomains), then how is this achieved?
The original language is danish and would be translated, but to where? Would I need two separate WordPress installations and install WPML on both installations or how does it work?
We are developing a platform using Learndash and another plugin that manages instructors via another interface recommended by Learndash’s co-founder https://wisdmlabs.com/instructor-role-for-learndash/. Would WPML pro be able to translate Wisdmlabs Instructor’s (WI) interface.
a. We have not been able to translate this WI interface fully with other translation plugins ie some interface words would remain untranslated.
b. Would the language switcher be able to be deployed on this interface?
Hi, Albert.
Learndash is officially compatible with WPML. https://wpml.org/plugin/learndash-lms/ https://wpml.org/documentation/plugins-compatibility/how-to-create-multilingual-online-courses-websites-using-learndash-and-wpml/
However, the Instructor Role For Learndash plugin by Wisdmlabs is unknown to us and not officially compatible with WPML. https://wpml.org/plugin/
We cannot guarantee that you can translate all its UI and that the Language Switcher will work.
Nevertheless, we have a 30-day refund policy. You can purchase a WPML subscription and test your plugins with WPML, and if you are not happy, you can get a refund.
If you face an issue with the Instructor Role For Learndash plugin or any plugin for this matter, we will be happy to assist and fix things from our side as much as possible.

Hi Support, my client want to reduce the renewal, he plan to take to downgrade from 99 euro to 39 euro for blog. Our website is https://suryakemasindosejati.com/. What happened with translation that i already made, when we downgrade the wpml package??
The wpml.org account that https://suryakemasindosejati.com/ is registered with our Multilingual Multilingual CMS subscription, and it will expire on November 17, 2023.
The already completed translations will be kept on the site. However, if you downgrade the subscription to the Blog subscription, you will lose the ability to use WPML’s Strings Translation add-on and the Advanced Translation Editor, which enables automatic translation. In addition, you will not be able to use the automatic translation credits you have assigned to this website.
If you want to continue with the downgrade, you need to do the following. Log in to your WPML account: https://wpml.org/account/. You will see the subscription details on the left and the word Modify next to it. Click on it to find the option to cancel your subscription. This will stop the automatic renewal on November 17, 2023. Then, the day after, on November 18, 2023, while logged in to your account, you can purchase the Blog subscription here: https://wpml.org/purchase/.
Hi, I wanted to know why wpml doesn’t let the user choose Google’s automatic translation? that users can translate with their own api and do their translation at no cost
Because Google offers good free services
2- Is it possible to put a switch to change the currency of the whole store?
Hello,
WPML allows you choose the Google Translate translation engine without entering the API key. That’s the model we chose. DeepL is the default one but you can change the order in WPML settings to make Google your first choice. The model we chose to integrate with the translation engines – through our internal APIs and our keys – makes it easy for many clients who don’t want to deal with configuring separate accounts (at DeepL, Google etc). You will get 90 000 translation credits for free if you buy WPML, which allows you to translate 45 000 of words. BTW, Google offers only some of the services for free and if you translate a lot, you will need to pay too. If you are interested in using your own API key you can consider the TranslatePress plugin. This go with both advantages and disadvantages.
2. Yes, when you add the language switcher or the currency switcher to your menu (navigation) it will be applied to the entire site.
Hi,
I want to create an English version for my blog using a different domain. Is it possible to have some posts/categories only on one of those websites?
The spanish version has recipe posts and some lifestyle posts. I want the english version to only have recipe posts..
Is that possible or both websites have to de identical?
Hello,
Thank you for your interest in WPML.
1. different domains
By default WPML adds languages as subdirectories but using different domains for languages is also possible but more challenging. You would need to follow this tutorial to see how it works and what is required: https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/language-url-options/how-to-use-wpml-with-different-domains-per-language/
2. skipping one category for the other language
Yes, it’s possible to skip one category for the other languages. Simply don’t translate the other category and don’t translate any of the posts that belong to this category. This means that you cannot use the “Translate Everything Automatically” mode (because it would translate all of your posts and categories). When setting up WPML, you need to choose the other mode (Let me choose what to translate). You can still use automatic translations for your posts if you want to but you would need to select the posts that have to be translated automatically and use the “translate automatically” in bulk option. You will find this feature in the WPML Translation Management Dashboard (it allows you to choose posts from a specific category). Of course, you can also translate posts manually.
Hello,
the Feast plugin hasn’t been tested by our compatibility team and I didn’t find any threads on our support forum related to this plugin either. This seems to be a niche plugin and therefore it’s difficult to anticipate what kind of issues you might expect when using it with WPML. If you want, you can give it a try by buying WPML and using our refund policy in case it doesn’t work with WPML.
So I hope you add our own api feature.
Because wpml is the best multilingual plugin…
And I’m sure your customers will be happy about it too!
Because they pay less.
Google gives 500 thousand free characters per month!
Hello,
you need to do it from the same place you signed you, which is your WordPress site. Please log into your WordPress site, WPML > Translation Management > Tools (3rd tab) and you will see a link to click to remove it.
Hello Omar,
we don’t have a lifetime version but you can cancel your WPML subscription at any time and still use WPML but without updates and our support help.
> if I cancel my sub, will I lose my trans?
No, you will not lose your translations
> if I cancel my sub, can I edit the translation for the old pages?
yes, you can still edit your translations
An active subscription is required only to get new versions of WPML plugins and our support help.
I am considering buying your Multilingual CMS package that comes with 90,000 credits. Your documentation shows we get 2,000 credits per month, which is confusing.
Does the 2,000 figure apply to the basic package, meaning we would get 7,500 credits per month with the CMS package?
If we need to use all 90,000 credits on one site in the first month, can we do this?
Hello Tricia,
thank you for your interest in WPML and your questions. The 90 000 credits and the 2000 are diffrent kinds of credits. Yes, you can use the 90 000 credits (you will get in the package) at any time. Even in the first month. You simply assign all of them or some to your site and then you can use them. This is done from within your WPML account. These are so-called pre-paid credits (but of course you are getting them for free when buying the WPML plugin). If you run out of the credits, you have two options to get more credits:
a) Pay-as-you-go
b) Pre-paid credits
Both are describe in detail here: https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/automatic-translation-pricing/
If you sign up for Pay-as-you-go, you will be getting addition 2000 credits each month, meaning, if you translate automatically you won’t pay anything for the first 2000 credits (1000 words).
I hope this helps. Yes, I know, it’s a bit confusing but I’m here to help in case you have further questions.
Hello, We are looking into using a language translation plug-in for a client site we’re building and have the following questions below. I don’t know how the tool works so any other information aside from answering the below questions would be helpful.
– Does your tool provide automatic translation? That’s something we’d like. How many pages or words does your subscription allow? If there is a limit on the number of pages or words being translated, can I designate which pages will be translated and therefore on the frontend the user will see specific pages will have a language selection dropdown?
– Do you have a list of languages you support?
– If say I need 6 different languages (English + 5 other languages), can I designate the English version as the default and if I make a change to English then the other respective language pages will also automatically update?
– How does the plug-in impact SEO? It looks like with your tool we’ll have different versions of the same page. So say Homepage.com/En, Homepage.com/fr, Homepage.com/es and so forth. This essentially will bloat the size of the site and could impact page speed and loading time.
– Does your tool also translate the meta information, alt text, tags, etc.
– Aside from the subscription are there any other costs?
Hello Christine,
thank you for your interest in WPML.
Does your tool provide automatic translation?
Yes, it does. WPML is integrated with the following translation engines: DeepL (default), Google Translate and Microsoft.
How many pages or words does your subscription allow?
When you buy the Multilingual CMS package you will get 90 000 translation credits for free, which will allow you to translate 45 000 words if you use DeepL or Google or 90 000 words if you use the Microsoft translation engine. DeepL provide the best translation quality.
can I designate which pages will be translated and therefore on the frontend the user will see specific pages will have a language selection dropdown?
Yes, you can. If you want to decided which pages to translate automatically, please select “Let me choose what to translate” instead of “Translate Everything” when configuring WPML. Then you can still use automatic translation for selected pages (even in bulk).
Do you have a list of languages you support?
Yes, we do: https://ate.wpml.org/mt_langs
If your language is not on that list, you can still add it to WPML but in that case, you will need to translate manually.
If say I need 6 different languages (English + 5 other languages), can I designate the English version as the default and if I make a change to English then the other respective language pages will also automatically update?
If you update the original page, WPML will detect it and depending on your settings will do the following:
a) indicate with a special icon that the original content has changed and you need to update the translations. You will need to click on the icon and then resave the translated page.
b) if you are using “Translate Everything Automatically” mode you don’t need to click anything, the translated page will be updated automatically
How does the plug-in impact SEO? It looks like with your tool we’ll have different versions of the same page. So say Homepage.com/En, Homepage.com/fr, Homepage.com/es and so forth. This essentially will bloat the size of the site and could impact page speed and loading time.
Having a multilingual site improves your site SEO because Google and other search engines appreciate that the site is available to more users. Performance-wise, you shouldn’t see any significant difference.
Does your tool also translate the meta information, alt text, tags, etc.
Yes, it does. We are compatible with the most popular SEO plugins.
Aside from the subscription are there any other costs?
Yes, there might be in case you run out of the free credits (90 000) and you would like to buy more credits. If that’s the case, feel free to see how the additional credit costs: https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/automatic-translation-pricing/
This calculator will also help: https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/automatic-translation-pricing/
When setting up WPML, I’d recommend the following:
a) add only one additional language at first
b) select “Let me choose what to translate” when asked about the translation mode in your WPML wizard
c) go to Translation Management, select a few pages in bulk to use automatic translation
d) check the Tools tab to see how many translation credits have been used and if everything is fine
only after add more languages.
This will allows you to control the credit usage.
I am planning to purchase the WPML for one of my WP multisite. I am having a query about WP multisite will be treated as one site or multiple sites. Example : https://abc.com, https://abc.com/bcd, https://abc.com/dec/, https://abc.com/efg
the above all are subsites in the WP multisite. when i activate the plugin it will consider as one or multiple sites. Please clarify the scenario and how much price for this yearly.
As of my knowledge above is one site. let me know your inputs ASAP.
Yes, you can still translate your pages even if your WPML subscription expired. You can translate your site manually all the time. Please note that to use automatic translation, you need translation credits. If your site has some credits assigned, you can still use them, even without an active WPML subscription. Alternatively you can sign up for the so-called Pay-as-you-go credits and you can use these one at any time, even if your WPML subscription expired. Both types of credits are covered in detail here: https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/automatic-translation-pricing/
I trust this email finds you well. My name is Miky Armengol, and I am currently evaluating WPML for a multilingual website project. I have a few questions regarding its functionality:
1.- I’ve come across information suggesting that WPML converts the website into a multisite. Can you confirm if this is true?
2.- If I install the WPML plugin on a Woocommerce-enabled website, can I choose to translate only specific pages?
3.- Is it possible to translate the website into 2 additional languages but NOT translate Woocommerce products, as they will only be displayed in the base language? How does this affect stock management?
4.- I have a Woocommerce site with the WordPress dashboard in Spanish but the frontend in English. Does WPML allow for the translation of text strings such as cart messages, checkout, login page, etc., similar to Loco Translate?
5.- Is there an option for a “lifetime” payment in the “Multilingual Agency” package?
Your assistance in clarifying these points is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and support.
Best regards,
MikyArmengol.com
WordPress and WooCommerce Developer
Hello Miguel,
thank you for your interest in WPML.
1. No, WPML doesn’t, convert the website into a multisite. There is another plugin that does it: https://multilingualpress.org/ in case if this is your goal. WPML adds languages in subdirectories, please check our showcase to see sites from our clients: https://wpml.org/showcase/
2. Yes, you can. But please make sure not to select “Translate Everything Automatically” when setting up WPML. Choose the other option.
3. Yes, it’s possible. Again, when setting up WPML, please select the correct setting. We also provide a setting how to handle WooCommerce products.
4. Yes, it does. Many themes provide Spanish translations for WooCommerce so there is a big chance you won’t need to translate the WooCommerce strings yourself but in case your theme doesn’t provide the translations, you can translate these strings using WPML.
5. No, there is no such option.
My company has purchased an account for the WMP plugin. And only Microsoft is present in the list of engines for automatic translation. How do I add Google Translate?
Hello,
here’s the list of supported languages: https://ate.wpml.org/mt_langs
Please check your language and the supported engines. If you can see only Microsoft, there is nothing we can do. If you can see DeepL or Google on that list and still you cannot see it on your site, you need to open a ticket on our support forum because this means there is something wrong with your WPML site and our support team will help you sort this out.
Hello,
What is the difference between your plugin “WooCommerce Multilingual & Multicurrency with WPML” and your regular WPML plugin?
is the first one free and can it still use automatic translations?
Hello Sharif,
“WooCommerce Multilingual & Multicurrency with WPML” is for the WooCommerce store on your site. It’s one of the modules included in the CMS and Agency subscriptions of WPML.
https://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/woocommerce-multilingual/
We have a Multicurrency plugin version for free but this does not include automatic translation.
Check here https://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/woocommerce-multilingual/multi-currency-support-woocommerce/
Kind regards,
Hello,
the free version doesn’t allow to translate at all (neither manually nor automatically), it only adds multi currency support.
Thanks Agnes. We have multiple sites, can we share the payments details to another site?
Yes, you can, please check this page how: https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/automatic-translation-subscription-for-multiple-sites/
Hello, I want to purchase the WPML Multilingual CMS add-on
I need to get a discount on the price.
Is it possible to encourage us to purchase the WPML Multilingual CMS add-on and give us a suitable discount in the price?
Hello,
I am afraid we don’t have any discounts available- Our pricing is the same for everyone, all year long.
Kind regards,
Thanks for your replies. My next questions:
From a seo point of view, is it better to have a more geo focused domain for each language or is the subdirectory just as good?

Hi!
Our website is already translated in English except for the store pages. Could we translate only a few pages with your services? Merci!
Hello Al!
Yes, WPML allows you to select what content to translate https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/#translate-what-you-choose
Kind regards
Thanks a lot for your reply Mercedes.
I’m not sure how I can reply directly on your thread so hope you see this 🙂
Ok, so if I had to follow your suggestion with geo focused domains. Leaving the .dk site for danish and then create a .eu for the rest of the languages (with subdomains), then how is this achieved?
The original language is danish and would be translated, but to where? Would I need two separate WordPress installations and install WPML on both installations or how does it work?
Regarding the domains creation, this is out of the scope of WPML. This needs to be done through the hosting company where the site is held.
https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/language-url-options/how-to-use-wpml-with-different-domains-per-language/
However, you shouldn’t have different WP installations per domain, you need to have only one.
If you prefer to follow up via email, feel free to contact me directly on hello@wpml.org

Yes, it does. WPML is integrated with the following translation engines: DeepL (default), Google Translate and Microsoft.
When you buy the Multilingual CMS package you will get 90 000 translation credits for free, which will allow you to translate 45 000 words if you use DeepL or Google or 90 000 words if you use the Microsoft translation engine. DeepL provide the best translation quality.
Yes, you can. If you want to decided which pages to translate automatically, please select “Let me choose what to translate” instead of “Translate Everything” when configuring WPML. Then you can still use automatic translation for selected pages (even in bulk).
Yes, we do: https://ate.wpml.org/mt_langs
If your language is not on that list, you can still add it to WPML but in that case, you will need to translate manually.
Having a multilingual site improves your site SEO because Google and other search engines appreciate that the site is available to more users. Performance-wise, you shouldn’t see any significant difference.
Yes, it does. We are compatible with the most popular SEO plugins.
Yes, there might be in case you run out of the free credits (90 000) and you would like to buy more credits. If that’s the case, feel free to see how the additional credit costs: https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/automatic-translation-pricing/
This calculator will also help:
https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/automatic-translation-pricing/
When using WPML on a WordPress Multisite, you need to use only one registration key.
https://wpml.org/documentation/support/multisite-support/#registering-wpml-on-multisite
In other words, the Multilingual CMS package will suffice in your case.
if my subscription expires, can I translate new pages for the same domain?
Yes, you can still translate your pages even if your WPML subscription expired. You can translate your site manually all the time. Please note that to use automatic translation, you need translation credits. If your site has some credits assigned, you can still use them, even without an active WPML subscription. Alternatively you can sign up for the so-called Pay-as-you-go credits and you can use these one at any time, even if your WPML subscription expired. Both types of credits are covered in detail here: https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/automatic-translation-pricing/
Dear WPML Pre-sales Support,
I trust this email finds you well.

Hello, i am trying to register a new client under his email but i when i am logged out i can’t find the register buttons – only login.
Hello, you have to buy WPML to create a WPML account. WPML is a paid plugin.
I mean, WPML account will be created automatically for you as soon as your purchase is complete.
My company has purchased an account for the WMP plugin. And only Microsoft is present in the list of engines for automatic translation. How do I add Google Translate?
Hello,
here’s the list of supported languages:
https://ate.wpml.org/mt_langs
Please check your language and the supported engines. If you can see only Microsoft, there is nothing we can do. If you can see DeepL or Google on that list and still you cannot see it on your site, you need to open a ticket on our support forum because this means there is something wrong with your WPML site and our support team will help you sort this out.
