This depends on the theme and how the banners are implemented. If the banner information is hard-coded in PHP, it will be a problem. However, if the banner info comes from an options screen, it will work without any changes.
In case you are coding the theme and can edit its PHP, placing a multilingual banner would be very easy. You can pass the banner information via GetText calls and translate it in WPML’s String Translation screen.
Hi Amir, just to make sure that we are on the same page, the banner that I’m talking about are those with image texts.
I do not understand the part on “if the banner info comes from an options screen, it will work without any changes”.
Can you share more on this?
“In case you are coding the theme and can edit its PHP, placing a multilingual banner would be very easy. You can pass the banner information via GetText calls and translate it in WPML’s String Translation screen.”
Dan> Do you have any reference documentation on this?
WPML comes pre-configured with most Western and Asian languages. If you need a language that’s not pre-defined, you can always add it to WPML yourself. Go to WPML->Languages->Edit languages. There, you can add your own language and set its locale and optional flag.
Hi. This might be a silly question but if I buy a Multilingual CMS for one year and after that I don´t renew..will all the sites that I´ve used the plugin still work regarding the translations? Or what happens if you dont renew?
Yes. Everything will keep working normally and nothing stops working because your account expires. If you don’t renew your account, you will not have access to our support or to downloading newer versions of WPML.
1. WPML lets you translate everything in your site, including WordPress menus. Navigation will persist in each language.
2. Yes. You can create Dutch pages which are completely independent of the English content. Of course, you can also create Dutch translations to existing English content.
1: Sorry, I am not clear with your answer. Does it mean i can NOT hide page navigation in other languages? So if I link to page X in English I must also link to page X in Dutch in the menu because I can not hide the menu link? Even if I don’t want to translate page X into Dutch? I can not hide the links in the navigation?
2: I understand i can add a separate page in Dutch which does not appear in the root language. but I am having the same problem with the Navigation again – obviously I only want to link to this page in Dutch. if I understand your answer to 1 correctly, then this is not possible.
Or am I misunderstanding this? Basically the navigation across the different languages must match the actually available pages in each translation. For your answer I read that this is NOT the case.
You can edit menu entries independently in each language. If you want, WPML can automatically synchronize the menus for you, but that’s only an option. You can also manually edit the menus and include the items that you like, in each language.
I’m not sure, as we haven’t tested that theme with WPML. If the theme authors are interested, we would be happy to review compatibility together with them. Would you like to ask if they can spend a little time to work together with us on cross compatibility? In that case, they are invited to our Go Global program: http://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/go-global-program/
Hello,
I am already a customer for Multilingual CMS, which I use for sites at my workplace. Now I need to purchase a Multilingual Blog license, for another project, not work related. Is it possible to create another account, i.e. with same first and last name, same credit card number, but different email address ? I would like to purchase this Multilingual Blog license on a separate acount.
Thanks for your help,
Pascal
Yes. If you use a different email address, it will be a new account. We don’t store payment information in our system, so you can use the same credit card number for a number of un-related accounts.
I want to translate the Directory Theme from “Ait Themes” and want to run only german on my site.
How hard is it to find the right Location of the words which I want to translate, because I only want to translate what the user and visitor can see, not the admin backend.
And when I do that with poedit I`ve no plan if the Phrase I try to translate, effects the Content on the Homepage or the backend, so sometimes the meaning of the Phrase is wrong (because it leads to a different function) or the Format is wrong (Phrase to Long for Buttons)
So can I locate easily if the Phrase/word is on the Homepage?
We have worked with Ait Themes on compatibility with WPML. You can see the themes that we’ve tested together here: http://wpml.org/developer/ait-themes/
WPML translates the user content, so this should be what you are referring to. However, I’m not familiar with their Directory theme, so I can’t tell for sure about compatibility.
If you are a client of Ait Themes, can you ask them if they would be interested in reviewing the Directory theme with us? We would be more than happy to join this work.
if I get WPML Basic, it only lasts for a year and i cannot use it after that year?
if i don’t want any update, then i can use it for as long as i want?
When you buy WPML (Blog or CMS), you get support and upgrades for a year. After that year, anything that you have downloaded will continue to work normally. You will only not have access to newer versions of the plugin or our support.
You can also buy a Lifetime account and get support and upgrades forever, without having to pay any extra for renewals.
We are almost ready with a new version of WooCommerce Multilingual, which will go out early next week. That version greatly simplifies running a multilingual e-commerce site.
Yes, WPML and WP SEO work great together. We work closely with Joost, the plugin developer and we make sure that everything is well supported. We use WP SEO on our sites and are very happy with it. Of course, it’s all multilingual for us.
I’d like to use WPML to manage content for different regions, but in only One language (English). E.g. when someone clicks on US they will see US content, when they click on Canada, they will see Canada content, when they click on Russia…they will see Russian content…but again, all in English. Can I do this in WPML?
Sure. I would suggest to setup custom languages for your site. You can add any language that you choose via WPML->Languages->Edit languages. Create the languages, choose a country flag and set the locale (all to English). Then, write the different content, per language.
Hello,
Will WPML help me to manage Events Manager in 2 different languages? Potentially at 2 different domains?
I want to be able to have an English site and a French site to advertise our events but I only want to have to input the info for the events one time, in one place.
Is this something wpml can help me with?
ps – I sent this as a message on your contact form before realizing that this may be the better place for the question.
Thanks for the quick reply! In that case, why do I need the extra plugin you referred to?
Back to my original question. Can wpml help me to manage content on 2 different sites from 1 central location? Most of this content will be submitted & organized with events manager plugin.
Yes, WPML lets you organize content in different languages, from the same WordPress site. It adds language information to your content and lets you either translate existing content or create completely independent content per language.
From everything I’m reading, it looks like WPML and Event Manager are working OK. We’re not using it for our sites, so I can’t give a certain answer. In any case, our support staff is very efficient at helping with compatibility issues, and we always have a 30-days money back guarantee, as a last resort.
It does. One other question – can wpml work with sites with different domains? I have 2 sites that will essentially be saying the same thing in 2 languages. Basically English.com and francais.com. My main challenge is to employ one instance of events manager for the two sites, but one showing the output in Eng and one in French. Is this even possible?
1) I would like to purchase and try the CMS Multilingual Plugin. If I purchase the CMS multilingual plugin and would like to upgrade to the Lifetime version, may I pay the difference?
2) Is it possible to default the language of the sites front end to Spanish with the CMS Multilingual Plugin?
Yes. You can upgrade from one package to the other and pay just the difference.
You can set any language as default for both the front-end pages and WordPress admin. If you are using Spanish for default front-end language, you need to take care of translatable strings. There is no problem, just need to be aware and work correctly. Have a look here: http://wpml.org/faq/string-translation-default-language-not-english/
If this is not the right place for my inquiry, apologies in advance.
I am tasked with completing a website for a company, and I desperately need multi-lingual options at this point.
WPML is exactly what I need, I know that much for sure. And I use the Avada theme so you guys are definitely hip.
The problem I have is that there is no doubt the installation and configuration will be too difficult for me to handle and have working correctly on my own. My skill-set is content and graphics only, WP CMS as a whole is brand new to me. I’m just not an advanced developer yet. (I read through your walkthroughs and it reads like latin to me) Beyond a video that walks me through the process like I’m a 6 year old child, I’m pretty sure I’ll mess it up and this site is involved with a large company. I can’t afford for it to go offline at all.
I’m wondering do you guys have any paid service beyond just buying the plugin – to the point of someone installing it correctly and liaising with me directly (via chat perhaps) to debug/configure any lingering issues? I’d really like to just see this thing up and running so I can email the boss and tell him to stop his whinging. 🙂
Please email if you can, with the over-and-above cost for this kind of hands on assistance, I’m almost certain it will be worth my money…
This is also a time sensitive query so reply at your earliest convenience.
Installing WPML and adding languages to your site doesn’t require any programming experience. You need to upload the plugin to your site’s ‘plugins’ directory, activate it and follow the setup wizard. This will help you select the default language, add other languages and display a language switcher on the front-end pages.
It should take just a few minutes. If you buy WPML and get stuck in any part of the process, we’ll be able to also give you that also. Since it’s a really tiny task, it’s going to cost a little too. Please note that if we run into major compatibility problems with your theme or other plugins, that paid work might grow, but it’s usually not the case.
I want to make sure you’re talking with the right person here. If you need paid help at any time, please go to this page: http://custom.wp-types.com/
Sounds reassuring no doubt amigo :). Thanks heaps for your quick and detailed response.
OK I guess I will go out on a limb and give it a try myself. Just so I’m savvy, and assuming everything is correctly done on my end, your plugin has a standard translation feature that automatically changes the language on pages within the site yes? A sort of general google-like translation feature selectable by the switcher-thingy if someone wants to read through the site in…say… Malay or Spanish?
Sorry if that’s a question I should already know, but I’ve only been checking on the more advanced translation features of your plugin via the Avada forum, aka how to send jobs out and upload translated text. Eventually I was hoping to have something up that works immediately, to quell the bosses excess bitchiness lol.
Sorry for the misunderstanding. WPML doesn’t translate your content and doesn’t use Google Translation for content translation. It lets you translate yourself, or translate with translators.
Again, thanks for jumping right on my queries. Amir bro, you’re like an internet support ninja rock star. Much appreciated.
OK, although that’s a bit of a drag, it’s also good to know how those machines can affect SEO. Added, I was originally looking for manual translation capabilities anyway, since my company has translator folks ready to go in their respective international branches.
Thought I might get ahead of the curve here, but it’s all good. The google machine is merciless on most translations anyway, and really makes some wicked mistakes. I’m still grabbing the plugin right now. Look for a purchase coming in from Singapore… that’ll be me. 🙂
Do keep an eye out in the support area though, because I’ll no doubt be full of more silly, eye-rolling questions soon enough haha.
Does that mean all untranslated content must be duplicated for it to show up on a different language? For instance, a page in the default language english, is not translated to swedish, but we still want the page to show up when displaying the site in swedish. Does this mean the page needs to be duplicated or can it automatically fallback to the default language for this page?
Yes, it does. But this shouldn’t be a big deal. You can do this duplication in one batch through WPML’s Translation Management screen, or individually, for pages.
Duplicating content for different languages has a tiny impact on your site’s size. If you consider the amount of posts created for revisions, you’ll see that these language duplicates are negligible. On the other hand, this method is great for site speed and in keeping languages consistent in the navigation.
If you fall back to the original content, you’ll switch to the navigation in that language too. Usually, you don’t want that.
WPML, like most premium WordPress plugins and themes, comes with GNU license. This means free, as in freedom, not as in “free beer”. The freedom that GNU gives you is in getting the open code, which you can edit and modify.
To download WPML from us, and get our support, you need to buy an account. Here is the purchase link: http://wpml.org/purchase/
I’m sure that you can find hacked versions around the web. When you do, consider why anyone would take the time to provide you with ‘free’ hacked versions and if it’s really a good idea to run untrusted code on your websites.
Thank you for your answer. I understand now.
Would you be able to provide me the version I need (2.6.0) and are the prices the same as the latest version ?
When you get an account, you can download the current and any previous version of WPML. All these downloads require a valid account. We really recommend staying updated. As WordPress evolves, WPML updates as well, so it’s best to use the current version. With an account for wpml.org, you can access previous versions too, but you should use the current version.
ok, thank you again. We will have to think about the purchase of the plugin.
One more question if you don’t mine :
I wil have to change my site url. I have seen on the web that this could be difficult with this pluging. What is the reallity ?
Ccould you tell me if the plugin can handle this properly ?
If I use the process recommanded by wordpress (http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress) to change my url, with I have difficulties with the plugins ?
I use WPML multilingual CMS, WPML String Translation and WPML Translation Management ?
We regularly move our sites between domains for testing and QA. There are no special considerations for WPML for this. You should do a complete DB dump, so it will include all the language information. An XML export and import will not include WPML’s language information.
hi,
I want to install the WP on my new domain.
Once I install the WP and the respective theme, ONLY AFTER THAT I need to buy the multi language plugin and install it, right?
You can start with WPML right after you install WordPress, or later. I would suggest to install the theme and see that everything is good. If you install the theme and all plugins (including WPML) together and have trouble, you can’t tell what’s causing it. Adding features one by one makes it easier to setup the site.
But, there is no restriction. You can enable WPML first, last or at any point.
thank you for prompt reply,
So,
Its better to install WP first, WPML after that and any other theme or plugin after
1.
This will work fine if the theme and plugin are free, but what if they are fee based? How can I check the compatibility before I buy something?
2.
Can I for example show you what I plan to install and you tell me whether the theme and the plugins are compatible?
3.
Do you you usually update WPML along with the WP updates?
4.
My plan is to have WP on two languages: English and Georgian. Is this ok?
Of course, many more themes are compatible with WPML.
If you buy WPML and run into any problem, tell us and we can refund your order. We have a very simple 30-days money back guarantee. If you are not happy with WPML, you can get your money back.
We will do our best to help, and we usually do that very well. I am mentioning the refund option, just so you know that it exists.
2. Check that page. Maybe your theme is there. If not, we will be happy to check compatibility together with the theme author. Of course, this takes time and we understand that the theme author might have other priorities.
3. We ALWAYS update WPML before newer WordPress versions come out. Usually, we start this process when the first beta version comes out and we are ready with a new WPML version together with the WordPress release candidate. This saves trouble to us and to our clients.
4. You can use any language with WPML. It comes pre-configured with over 40 languages. Georgian is not among them, but it doesn’t matter. After you install WPML, go to WPML->Languages->Edit languages. Add Georgian and you’re ready.
Sure. You can map languages to different domains. They would still all run from one WordPress install, but appear to visitors as different sites in different languages. Have a look here at the server configuration: http://wpml.org/faq/server-setting-for-languages-in-different-domains/
Oh GREAT!
That’s an outstanding news and perfect solution in terms of better SEO.
Thank you very much. I can start with Multilingual Blog.
One more question: one install of WPML is per single WP installation, right?
That is if I buy WPML for bstrat.ge/bstrat.com I will not be able to use that on another domain. Right?
Actually, you can use WPML on all your WordPress sites. WPML is a tool for website developers. We understand that you need to build different sites and you can use WPML on all of them.
Sorry, but we just have one pricing for WPML. We try to keep a single low price (been steady since we launched). This money is used to power our support and new development.
I’d like to know which version of WMPL is needed to use it with Woocommerce. Is the blog version sufficient or do I need the CMS version. Also, are the necessary extra modules included in the purchase, or are they sold seperately?
I have the nonprofit license to WPML, and I need to ask a question, but I seem to not have access to posting in the forums even when I’m logged into my account. Is this normal? If nonprofit users don’t receive support, then I also can’t figure out how to purchase support. Please help, my question would probably take 2 minutes for one of your experts to answer. Thanks.
I have images with texts in them so I need to change the links so the different versions of the pages point to different images. Is that possible with WPML?
Yes. WPML lets you reuse the same images, but have different texts for different languages. This is achieved through our Media Translation plugin, which is part of the Multilingual CMS package. Have a look here: http://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/media-translation/
You didn’t understand… I cannot reuse the same images, the texts are part of them (they are not text any more). I’d need to uses different images for different languages.
Does the wpml plugin translate an already existing wordpress blog that has content? I am assuming yes. Or do I need to upload the plugin first and add/upload/publish content afterwards?
You can install WPML at any time – before or after you write your content. You can start translating your content as you write it, or wait until your texts are completed in one language and then translate to other languages.
Please note that WPML doesn’t translate your content for you. It lets you translate yourself or via external translators.
WPML is really not intended for automatic content translation. It includes XLIFF content export and import, but this is normally used for human translation. XLIFF is the standard interface format for translators.
Hi,
I want to ask about multilingual banner or images. Can WPML switch the banner/images to the non-English version when the language is switched?
thanks.

Thanks a lot for your time.
I hope I did not missed any information that is already listed in your website. My question is:

Can you please clarify the following issues for me before purchase?
1: If I have a website with 20 pages and menus which match these pages and I translate only 5 languages – what happens with the navigation menu’s?

You can edit menu entries independently in each language. If you want, WPML can automatically synchronize the menus for you, but that’s only an option. You can also manually edit the menus and include the items that you like, in each language.
Have a look here for how the menu translation works:
http://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/translating-menus/
To summarize, you have full control of what appears in the navigation in each language.
Does this answer your question, or did you mean something else?
All clear now. And i can add pages in other languages which do NOT exist in the original language. So this solves all my questions. Thanks.

we are using woothemes (function) + woocommerce
we would like to see a live demo of this product!
At the moment, there is no live demo for WPML + WooCommerce available. We might be able to add it in a few weeks. WPML does work well with WooCommerce, using our WooCommerce Multilingual plugin:
http://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/woocommerce-multilingual/
We are almost ready with a new version of WooCommerce Multilingual, which will go out early next week. That version greatly simplifies running a multilingual e-commerce site.

There is a plugin that interfaces between Event Manager and WPML:
http://wordpress.org/plugins/events-manager-wpml/
Have you seen it?
The author of Event Manager is maintaining that plugin. I am not familiar with it and it doesn’t appear to be very popular, but it’s out there.
Does this help?
Hi there,
According to this post in your forum, events manager works well with wpml. Is this not true?
http://wpml.org/2013/03/this-week-compatible-rt-theme-16-soundboard-rt-theme-16-and-events-manager-plugin/
It should be fine.
Thanks for the quick reply! In that case, why do I need the extra plugin you referred to?
Back to my original question. Can wpml help me to manage content on 2 different sites from 1 central location? Most of this content will be submitted & organized with events manager plugin.

If you need paid help at any time, please go to this page:
http://custom.wp-types.com/
(it’s our site too)
Does this sound OK to you?
Amir,
Sounds reassuring no doubt amigo :).
Have a look here for how to translate with WPML:
http://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/
Regarding machine translation, you might want to read this FAQ, before looking for a way to add machine translation to your site:
http://wpml.org/faq/does-wpml-support-machine-translation/
It’s not impossible, just that there’s a right way to do it.
Cheers com-padre.
Hello!
I am trying to find information regarding untranslated content and found thins link:
http://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/displaying-untranslated-content-using-content-duplication/
Hello,
I will have to work with a website using WPML Multilingual CMS version 2.6.0.
The license indicates GNU and I understand this is a free version.
I cannot find this version of the plugin on the wordpress site.
How can I get this version of the plugin ?
WPML, like most premium WordPress plugins and themes, comes with GNU license. This means free, as in freedom, not as in “free beer”. The freedom that GNU gives you is in getting the open code, which you can edit and modify.
To download WPML from us, and get our support, you need to buy an account. Here is the purchase link:
http://wpml.org/purchase/
Is this ok?
Thank you
1. WPML is compatible with most WordPress themes (because of the way it’s been built). We’ve listed themes that we tested ourselves here:
http://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/
Does this help?
oh yes,
You are truly fast in feedback. I appreciate that
One more question if you don’t mind
Is it possible to have one WP blog but one domain for one language version and another domain for another language version?
For example, bstrat.ge only for the Georgian language pages and bstrat.com for respective English version pages?
Sure. You can map languages to different domains. They would still all run from one WordPress install, but appear to visitors as different sites in different languages. Have a look here at the server configuration:
http://wpml.org/faq/server-setting-for-languages-in-different-domains/
Hi, is there a educational price? Please advise.
Thanks.
Sorry about that. I’ve restored your account, so now you can access downloads and support again.
I have images with texts in them so I need to change the links so the different versions of the pages point to different images. Is that possible with WPML?
Yes. WPML lets you reuse the same images, but have different texts for different languages. This is achieved through our Media Translation plugin, which is part of the Multilingual CMS package. Have a look here:
http://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/media-translation/
You didn’t understand… I cannot reuse the same images, the texts are part of them (they are not text any more). I’d need to uses different images for different languages.
That’s even easier. Just upload different images to the translations.
Should I install the wpml plugin before I create and upload/post the content or does the plugin translate already existing content on a blog site?
Does the wpml plugin translate an already existing wordpress blog that has content? I am assuming yes. Or do I need to upload the plugin first and add/upload/publish content afterwards?
You can install WPML at any time – before or after you write your content. You can start translating your content as you write it, or wait until your texts are completed in one language and then translate to other languages.
Please note that WPML doesn’t translate your content for you. It lets you translate yourself or via external translators.
what translator software integrates with your plugin so that the content can be automatically translated into the desired language?
WPML is really not intended for automatic content translation. It includes XLIFF content export and import, but this is normally used for human translation. XLIFF is the standard interface format for translators.
