I tried to find an answer in your forums and documentation but was unsuccessful. My question simply is: Does WPML have utilities to import translated WordPress XML files. In other words, if we do a standard WordPress XML content export and translate the content in the XML files, can we import them back into the WPML plugin so we do not have to copy/paste each page and post into the admin tool?
We have an even better solution for you (I think). WPML exports and imports XLIFF files. These are XML files, with translation information. If you use this method, everything will fall exactly into place.
We have a WordPress 3.8.1 site that is hosted on http://givensa.com/blog and we want to get the wpml to have the blog in two languages.
The issue is that we started off in english and switched to spanish some time back so we have posts in both english and spanish. We do not have that many though so moving them manually will be possible.
Question 2:
During installation I understand I choose Spanish as default option. Then I guess all the english posts will be in the Spanish version as well right? And I have to move them manually to the english side correct?
Question 3:
Since the Spanish version will be the default option, I think all existing links should be fine right? The default language for the blog will still be at http://givensa.com/blog, correct?
Question 4:
This is just a small blog. Is there any reason the Blog option should not be enough. Occasionally we will have other people helping us to translate but that is not a problem with the Blog version right?
Anything else I need to think about before installing the plugin?
1. By default, WPML will put the site’s ‘default’ language in the root directory – givensa.com/. You can change it and set WPML to put Spanish (the default language) in givensa.com/es/. In this case, you will be able to choose what content to display for the site’s root URL.
2. Yes, when you choose Spanish as the site’s default language, all existing content will be tagged as Spanish. Later, you can mark some content as English and also indicate what’s the translation of what.
3. Yes. As long as you keep the default-language content on the site’s root, the existing Spanish content will not change URLs.
4. The size of the site doesn’t matter. It’s more important to know what sort of content your site includes. If you’re just translating blog posts, the WPML Blog version may be enough for you. Anyway, you can upgrade later to the full CMS version and pay only the difference ($50).
Thanks for the reply. I bought the blog version and I have installed it tonight. Cudos on an amazing module. Everything has been very intuitive and so far everything seems to work out of the box when it comes to the blogposts. I should have done this 1 year ago 🙂
The only thing I have pending is translating the things that I guess are connected to the theme. The category links in the header and the headlines in the right column.
I do not really get how the translation using the .mo files work. Can I solve this using without finally buying the more expensive version?
If these texts are hard-coded in the theme, their translation should be included in the theme’s .mo file. You can show the theme author which texts are not translated and ask them to provide an up-to-date .mo file, with the translation for these texts.

I am a web developer running a few WordPress installations for clients on different domain. From my understanding, the 89$ license is sufficient for all of my installations. Is that correct?
Q2. Will it take care of one-to-one content mapping and overrider WP’s default handling? For example, I have 3 languages – English, Chinese, and Japanese for my site. And I have a serious of pages like About Us, Products, News
Can I have URLs for the About Us page like http://domain.com/en/about-us/ http://domain.com/zh/about-us/ http://domain.com/ja/about-us/
Likewise treatment is wanted for blog post.
Q3. Does it support Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean by default? How about Arabic and Thai?
A1. Yes. WPML works fine on multisite installs. You can activate WPML for the entire network or for specific child sites.
A2. Yes, each page in a different language will have its own URL. Normally, people prefer to also translate the slugs of pages.
A3. Yes, all of these languages are pre-configured in WPML. WPML’s admin is also fully localized to Chinese (traditional and simplified), Japanese, Korean and Arabic. WPML also includes complete RTL support, for your Arabic content editing.
hello
1. if I purchase Multilingual CMS package for $79 and later want to upgrade to Multilingual CMS package lifetime, Can I do that?how much I have to pay for the upgrade?
2. Is WPML fully compatible with latest version of WPML?
1. Yes. If you buy a yearly account now you can upgrade to a Lifetime account later. You will only need to pay the difference between the two packages.
2. WPML is completely compatible with the recent version of WordPress. In addition, we always test WPML with new WordPress versions before they are released. Right now, we are starting to test WPML with WordPress 3.9 (which is in first beta).
I want to use same language (English) for two different countries. Look down for example:
1) Targeting India with .in domain – (Only English Language)
2) Targeting Rest of the world with .com domain – (Only English Language – Same Content)
and I discussed this in Google Webmaster Forum: http://goo.gl/SKRDo2 and I got perfect answer for the same. So According to Googler, We should use “hreflang” for different domains.
But my questions is…
1) Your plugin will support this option for different domains for same language and same content? (“hreflang” usage)
2) If so, Do I need to install your plugin in both sites?
3) If so, Do I need use Yoast SEO Plugin with your Plugin or any other All in One SEO plugin is ok?
Before buying this plugin I want to check this usage according to my requirements. So Please clarify my doubts. (And sorry for posting this with links in public page).
You can use WPML for this. It will add the hreflang links to content in different languages. You can see this in action, in the source code of every page on our site.
1. WPML sets the hreflang links for all translations, no matter what URL configuration you use. This includes languages in directories and in domains.
3. This functionality doesn’t require any other plugin. We use Yoast SEO plugin to set the SEO metadata on our site, but it’s not related to the langhref attributes. WPML does this itself.
when i’m trying to buy you plugin using Credit Card option, i’m getting
“Failed to authorize: Authorization Failed” error
if i’m using PayPal, i’m getting
“We are not able to process your payment using your PayPal account at this time. Please return to the merchant’s website and try using a different payment method (if available).

Can navigation be customized for each separate language site? If so, is it limited to the main navigation or does it also include any navigation widgets? Is there a demo or example of how that is managed?
Yes. WPML lets you create separate menus, per language. These menus will include only items in the selected language. This includes all WordPress menus, as well as widgets.
Hello,
I am thinking of buying the Life time version… does the update come up in wordpress admin panel? or do i have to visit the site every time for update?
WPML includes an auto update mechanism. You can install it on your own sites and sites for clients and everyone will receive the updates, automatically, through your account.
I’m not 100% sure what form content you are referring to. Can you please create a thread about this in our support forum? Tell what you’re using for form and what you’re seeing now in the String Translation. You can attach screenshots to forum threads.
Ok, After using this for two days, i found out that all the translated pages does’t show the image galleries that supposed to go with it.
How do i fix this?
HI, I need to buy this plugin with my credit card so that my developers can install it on my website. The question is, what do I have to provide them with after buying it in order to get it running? is it an account? some sort of code? a downloadable software with serial number? how can my developers access this plugin after I buy it? please let me know, im a little confused. Thanks so much.
I bought WPML few years ago, now I am trying to buy Multilingual CMS version, but when I arrive on checkout page, it says “To upgrade your subscription, please visit your account page.” On my account page, the only upgrade i see is from blog to lifetime.
Sorry for the slow response. Looks like something in our system that we should fix. In the meanwhile, can you use a different email to buy a completely new account?
BTW, upgrading to a Lifetime account will cost you $166. A new yearly account will be $79.
Hi, I am struggling a little to understand if this plugin will do what I need it to and I figured it might just be best to ask the question because I’m pretty sure a lot of other people will want to know this too.
Will the plugin translate the English content I have in my WordPress site to any language I chose (provided it is available in the system) *on the fly*?
In other words once I have my English content I simply go in and select the languages I want and how I want the language selector to be displayed etc and the content will be translated in real time as users request the site in the language of their choice from the language options I have set up. Is this correct?
WPML doesn’t translate your site’s content. It’s a tool that lets you translate yourself, or get work from translators. Using WPML, your WordPress sites can have content in several languages.
We have WPML which was provided by our consultant. They sent us our license code but it’s licensed under their name and email address. How can we get this switched over to our account? I’m trying to figure out which type of license we have and then upgrade if necessary.
Before we switch the account ownership, we will need to get an OK from the original account holder. Please use our contact form, give the details and we’ll send a confirmation email to the original buyer. Should be quick to update.
I made a purchase a few minutes ago, and realised I mistyped my email address… Of course, I didn’t get any notifications. Please contact me for further assistance.
can you tell me what the yearly fee is for? is this for using the product, or do we get 1 year of support and updates? we don’t want to have to pay this fee, we only want the plugin, support and updates isn’t needed.
thanks 🙂
The renewal fee if needed to continue getting our support and upgrades. If you don’t renew, you can continue to use what you downloaded before, but you will not have access to new versions or to our support.
1) Is WPML comatible with YOAST SEO Plugin?
2) Do I have different Meta Descriptions, SEO-Titels and Focus Keyword for every language version of my post?
best regards ans thank you

I couldn’t find a link for the languages WPML works with — I’m assuming Vietnamese is OK — would you confirm WPML is compatible with Vietnamese?
I intend using it with BuddyPress (and the BuddyPress multilingual plugin). As WPML is compatible with Buddypress this is probably a silly question, but would you confirm compatibility with the (Buddypress) bbPress forum?
You can use WPML with Vietnamese. WPML itself is even fully translated to Vietnamese, so if you want to run the WP admin in Vietnamese, WPML’s menus will display correctly.
We are in the process of updating BuddyPress Multilingual. It works OK now, but several new features in BP are still not supported. We should have an updated BPML version in a couple of weeks. BuddyPress adds features very fast and we’re a bit behind.
We use bbpress here, on our own site. We don’t use one multilingual forum, but several forums, one per language.
Is it possible to purchase either the Blog or CMS version of WPML and then later, after it has been approved by you guys, transform the account into a non-profit account? Thanks for your help.
Seems my subscription has expired – I got a notice in 2012 March that I need to renew and did that, but there has apparently been no notice in 2013 March (and the system shows no order)… but the account has been working until November 2013 – latest version I have is 3.0.1
Is it possible there is just some problem with my subscription and I actually renewed in 2013? Or why haven’t I received reminder notices? (account is the same one I’m currently logged in with)
Our system sends renewal notifications 30 days and 3 days before accounts expire. Any chance that our notification emails are hiding in your SPAM folder?
If your account already expired, you can buy a new account ($79) or upgrade to a Lifetime account. When you upgrade to Lifetime, you only need to pay the difference – $116.
I have version WPML Multilingual CMS 2.5.2 but do not have the rights to upgrade to the latest version anymore.
Everything seems to be working fine I just upgraded to the latest version of WordPress 3.8.1
Is there something critical I´m missing if I don´t upgrade or am I ok with 2.5.2 ?
We constantly improve WPML and add new features. If you are happy with what you’re using now, that’s fine. We don’t run QA with older WPML versions and new WordPress versions, so I can’t tell for sure how WPML 2.5.2 works with WordPress 3.8.1. WordPress 3.9 is also coming out soon and we are doing more changes for complete compatibility.
2) Is there a way I can specify my own domains per language. So that when someone say goes to http://www.name1.gr goes to greek, yet http://www.name2.fr goes to french? If yes, what kind of setup would be required for wordpress?
Yes. You can upload your custom flags, which will replace the flags that come with WPML. To do this, go to WPML->Languages->Edit languages. You will be able to specify a file for each flag for each country.
Velocity page says it’s compatible with WPML. I don’t see it yet on our compatibility list, but that just means that our team hasn’t fully tested it. If the theme author for Velocity tested and reported, it looks fine to me.
In any case, if you run Velocity and WPML and have any trouble, our support team will be happy to work with the theme author and get it resolved.
I decided to buy the CMS Lifetime version, can I installed it on different WordPress sites for my clients? Their sites are not networked mapped, they are all separate.
I tried to find an answer in your forums and documentation but was unsuccessful. My question simply is: Does WPML have utilities to import translated WordPress XML files. I have a couple of questions.

Hi Amir,
Can you respond to my pre-sales question?
Hi Amir,
Do you have any support email IDs that I can send this question directly to you?
Sorry, but we try to limit the pre-sales support to this page. Can I help with anything?
I missed that question. Here goes…
You can use WPML for this. It will add the hreflang links to content in different languages. You can see this in action, in the source code of every page on our site.
1. WPML sets the hreflang links for all translations, no matter what URL configuration you use. This includes languages in directories and in domains.
2. Using WPML, you will run both sites from the same WordPress installation. WPML lets you serve different domains, for different languages from the same site. Have a look here for the web server config:
http://wpml.org/faq/server-setting-for-languages-in-different-domains/
3. This functionality doesn’t require any other plugin. We use Yoast SEO plugin to set the SEO metadata on our site, but it’s not related to the langhref attributes. WPML does this itself.
Hi,
when i’m trying to buy you plugin using Credit Card option, i’m getting
“Failed to authorize: Authorization Failed” error
if i’m using PayPal, i’m getting
“We are not able to process your payment using your PayPal account at this time. Please return to the merchant’s website and try using a different payment method (if available).
” message
That’s odd. Do you have another credit card you can use?
i tried 3 cards, and i also have 3 of them added to paypal account.

Thanks for your reply.
I just paid for the $79 version…hoping to upgrade it soon.
How do deal with form contents that, can find the form contents with the String translation.
I’m not 100% sure what form content you are referring to. Can you please create a thread about this in our support forum? Tell what you’re using for form and what you’re seeing now in the String Translation. You can attach screenshots to forum threads.
http://wpml.org/forums/forum/english-support/
If you open a thread and need more help, please paste here the link to that thread.
Ok, After using this for two days, i found out that all the translated pages does’t show the image galleries that supposed to go with it.
How do i fix this?
Have you seen the Media Translation component?
http://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/media-translation/
It allows the same media files to appear in translations. You can also translate captions and image-alt texts.
Well, i’ve removed the Media Translation. And had to upload different gallery for each translated pages.
I’ll have to study the MF more.
Thanks though

When you buy WPML you get an account, with login information. From there, you can download WPML and access our support.
Hello,
I bought WPML few years ago, now I am trying to buy Multilingual CMS version, but when I arrive on checkout page, it says “To upgrade your subscription, please visit your account page.” On my account page, the only upgrade i see is from blog to lifetime.
Need your help.
Thanks!
Sorry for the slow response. Looks like something in our system that we should fix. In the meanwhile, can you use a different email to buy a completely new account?
BTW, upgrading to a Lifetime account will cost you $166. A new yearly account will be $79.
Hi,
Can you respond to my Pre-Sales question?
Hi,
Looks like this will work according to the following tutorials you’ve given.
http://wpml.org/2013/07/how-to-do-multilingual-seo-for-wordpress-sites/
http://wpml.org/faq/server-setting-for-languages-in-different-domains/
Please confirm the same. Thanks.

Yes, WPML works great with Yoast SEO. In fact, we use it on our sites. You will be able to enter separate SEO meta for different languages.
I couldn’t find a link for the languages WPML works with — I’m assuming Vietnamese is OK — would you confirm WPML is compatible with Vietnamese?

Amir,
Is it possible to purchase either the Blog or CMS version of WPML and then later, after it has been approved by you guys, transform the account into a non-profit account? Thanks for your help.
Seems my subscription has expired – I got a notice in 2012 March that I need to renew and did that, but there has apparently been no notice in 2013 March (and the system shows no order)… but the account has been working until November 2013 – latest version I have is 3.0.1

Hi!
Regards
/Anders
We constantly improve WPML and add new features. If you are happy with what you’re using now, that’s fine. We don’t run QA with older WPML versions and new WordPress versions, so I can’t tell for sure how WPML 2.5.2 works with WordPress 3.8.1. WordPress 3.9 is also coming out soon and we are doing more changes for complete compatibility.
Would like to know two things:
1) Can I replace the flags with my own icons.
2) Is there a way I can specify my own domains per language. So that when someone say goes to http://www.name1.gr goes to greek, yet http://www.name2.fr goes to french? If yes, what kind of setup would be required for wordpress?
Thank you.
Yes. You can upload your custom flags, which will replace the flags that come with WPML. To do this, go to WPML->Languages->Edit languages. You will be able to specify a file for each flag for each country.
You can set any domain for any language. Have a look here for server settings:

Hi,
I would like to know if WPML is compatible with Velocity Theme for WordPress. See the link below:
http://themes.damojothemes.com/?theme=velocity_wp
Thanks !
Hi Amir,
I decided to buy the CMS Lifetime version, can I installed it on different WordPress sites for my clients? Their sites are not networked mapped, they are all separate.
Thanks !
Mary
Sure you can. WPML is meant for developers and you can install it on your client sites. They don’t need to be on one WP network.
