This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
You are experiencing issues with translated portfolio pages on your website, where photos disappear, and the arrangement shows incorrect language text. This problem started after recent edits to the portfolios.
Solution:
We recommend adding a custom XML configuration to your WPML settings to ensure that all necessary attributes are correctly translated. Here is the XML code you should add:

<wpml-config>
<shortcodes>
<shortcode>
<tag>norebro_heading</tag>
<attributes>
<attribute encoding="base64">title</attribute>
<attribute encoding="base64">subtitle</attribute>
</attributes>
</shortcode>
<shortcode>
<tag>norebro_text</tag>
</shortcode>
</shortcodes>
</wpml-config>

This configuration should help in translating the subtitle and other text elements correctly. If this solution does not resolve your issue or seems outdated, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If problems persist, please open a new support ticket at WPML support forum.

Background of the issue:
I am trying to fix issues with translated portfolio pages on my website. A few weeks ago, the categories of the store broke, with some not working and others leading to different addresses. I contacted the Norebro theme support, and they mentioned a problem with the translation. Recently, the translated portfolios from Bulgarian to English started breaking. Photos disappear, and the arrangement is incorrect, showing Bulgarian text. Almost all newly edited portfolios from the past month or two are broken. Here is a link to a page where the issue can be seen: hidden link

Symptoms:
Translated portfolio pages are broken. Photos disappear, and the arrangement is incorrect, showing Bulgarian text instead of English.

Questions:
Why are the translated portfolio pages broken?
How can I fix the issue with the categories and portfolio translations?

Thanks for contacting us. I've checked the page you shared and it doesn't seem to be translated.

I will need to closely examine your website. Therefore, I will require temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) to a test site where the problem has been replicated, if possible. This will enable me to provide better assistance and determine if any configurations need to be modified.

Please note that it is important to have a backup for security purposes and to prevent any potential data loss. You can use the UpdraftPlus plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/) to fulfill your backup requirements.

Your upcoming reply will be treated with confidentiality and will only be visible to you and me.

✙ To resolve the issue, I may need your consent to deactivate and reactivate plugins and the theme, as well as make configuration changes on the site if necessary. This emphasizes the significance of having a backup.

Thanks for your reply. I've checked the portfoliio and the translation does not exist in the Advanced Translation Editor nor the Classic Translation Editor as shown in the attached screenshot. Did you previously translate the portfoliio manually using the WordPress Editor?

I don't know for what reason, but the English texts disappeared and the Bulgarian ones appeared in their place. Including the differences in design between the two languages, it became in favor of Bulgarian.
Almost all the English pages that were made or edited soon went bad.
Here's how I do the English versions.

First I make the design in Bulgarian, switch to English, copy the content and paste the text in English.

Yesterday I fixed one portfolio and immediately after that it came back with the Bulgarian text

Thanks for your reply. It looks like you’re translating manually, there might be some misconfiguration which caused the content to be overwritten by the primary language.

Try using the these steps to translate a page manually:

1.Create the page design in Bulgarian.

2.In the sidebar’s Languages section, duplicate the page into English. https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/displaying-untranslated-content-on-pages-in-secondary-languages/#duplicating-content

3.Switch to the English version and click “Translate the page independently.”

4.Replace the content with the English version and save.

That’s it.

Just curious, why not use the Advanced Translation Editor? It offers lots of helpful features: https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/advanced-translation-editor/

Are you saying there is no damage at all? I just need to change how the pages are translated? I did a translation yesterday the way you showed. For now, the page is working

hidden link

But I am very confused because since yesterday the menu is not working. I'm guessing it's because of turning the translation plugin off and on. I'm trying to put the button (flag) next to the menu and I can't?

Please check everything again because the site is online and doesn't work properly for users for many days, which compromises me.

Besides the method of translation, what will you recommend to get out of the situation?

The thread doesn't see much of the old photos, I guess because it's off and on.

Do I back up and translate the pages the new way or start fixing one by one?

Please look at the site again?

I was able to run the flags but the English menu remained broken.

Please inspect everything in detail

Thanks for your reply. Could you please translate the navigation menu correctly following the instructions here? https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/translating-menus/

I understood the logic, how to make different menu in different languages. Thank you.
The page you made a day ago is still working.

Now I need to understand the logic and possibilities of this way of translation

Thanks for your reply. If you check this section of the documentation, "Translating Menus That Appear Different in Each Language" https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/translating-menus/#translate-menus-different-per-language, it explains how to display a different navigation menu for each language.

1. I think the menu is now stable.

2. I've been trying to make a translated page all weekend. I followed the Duplicate Content instructions. I manage to do it, it works for a while and returns the Bulgarian translation or what I have shown in the pictures. I think there is some problem with the translation of Norebro Heading.
Even the untranslated texts have spelling mistakes
example: НАТУРАЛНИ СЪСТАВКИ -> НЛТУЛНИ СЪСТВКИ

3.I also saw in the Support menu of the plugin that there is an error in the Advanced Translation Editor field.

Thanks for your reply. I've added the required custom XML configuration here hidden link and now it should allow you to translate the titles/headings as shown in the attached screenshot.

Could you complete the translation and recheck? I'm working on this page hidden link . Translate the page to English using the WPML translation editor and you'll see the same editor as shown in my attached screenshot.

I have translated this page as I have shown in the images.

Everything is working now.

As I understand it, first I make the original page, then I go to the classic editor of the translator and translate the text. When I save, does the entire page design and translated text appear in the English version?

That is very good. I think I have come a long way and learned a lot of new things, I have solved this problem.

If I switch to Advanced Translation Editor, do I still have to translate the same way?
