This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: The client is experiencing issues with the URL of translated posts not matching the new content after cloning and translating an original post. The translated post retains the URL of the original post instead of reflecting the new cloned content. Solution: We recommend the following steps depending on the translation method used: 1. If using the manual method and editing content directly in the second language via the WordPress editor, adjust the URL/slug manually from the same screen inside the WordPress edit screen, as you would do in the default language. If using the WPML editor or automatic translation, ensure that the slug/URL settings in WPML are configured to auto-generate from the title. Background of the issue:
I am trying to create new blog posts by cloning an existing post, entering new content, and then translating it. I clone an existing post, such as this one: hidden link, enter the new content in the cloned post, and save it. I then update the featured image in the Media translation module and check the translation. However, the translated post uses an iteration of the original post's URL instead of the new post from the clone. This issue can be seen here: hidden link. I expected the URL to be: hidden link.
Symptoms:
The translated post ends up using an iteration of the original post's URL, even though I cloned the original post, changed the content, and saved it. The translated post has a URL that does not match the translated post content.
Questions:
Why does the translated post use the original post's URL instead of the new post's URL?
How can I ensure the translated post URL matches the new post content?

Would you please make sure that you make a change to the original language in the edit screen and save the page (even if you do the media translation thing that you mentioned)
And make sure that the translation of the new page is 100% complete?

So the steps to go forward:
- Go to your Dashboard > Pages.
- Open the edit screen of the original page. You should see a pencil/circle/gear icon in the sidebar options under the "Languages" section.
- Make a small change, for example, add an extra blank space at the end of a sentence/paragraph.
- Save it.
- You should now see that a circular arrow appears beside the 2nd languages links, this means that an update is required.
- Edit the translation again and save it up to 100% translated.

I then clicked the "eyeball" icon that indicated the Spanish translation needed updating and I approved that translation.
However, the root issue has not been addressed. That is, the URL of the translated page echos the URL of the original post that was cloned to make the new post.

Only the English version of the post has an appropriate URL as noted in the first paragraph above.
Let us clear first things up, you say you duplicate and add content to 2nd language there, but in last reply you say you click eyeball.
Can you please explain how are you translating and adding content, since you can not mix 2 methods you mentioned manual and WPML editor, it will not work and will cause issues.
If you wish to use manual method you need to switch to WP editor and continue to add translations like that.
If you wish to use WPML editor, you should do no any of the steps you mentioned in first reply, but only to translate via WPML editor, and if you wish to use same URL, you would need to set from WPML settings to be copied and language to encoded:
This is going nowhere. Please read my first inquiry slowly and carefully to understand the issue I am having. In my mind, it doesn't have anything to do with what translation method I'm using (although I use the auto-translate method). It's the URL of the translated post that refers back to the originally cloned post that is the root issue of the problem.
Once again, please re-read and digest what the issue is I'm experiencing.
I understand your issue, just wanted to clear a few things up and hopefully avoid further issues for you that may happen due to mixing of translation methods.
Let me answer your question:
1) If you are using the manual method, manually adding content in the 2nd language vie WP editor, then you should adjust your URL / slug manually from same screen inside WP edit screen, same like you would do in default language:

2) If you are using WPML editor / automatic translation then the slug / URL of the translated page depends on settings set in WPML → Settings > Page URL.
Set option to Auto-generate from Title. Make a small change to default page , save, and re-translate. Note that all changes done manually will be overwritten when you re-translate via WPML editor / automatic translation.
I cannot say the issue is resolved, but I'm going to try something different in the future. Rather than begin by cloning an existing post in English, editing it and publishing, (and letting auto-translate do it's job), I'll create an entirely new post in English and let the auto-translate work. Perhaps that will solve the issue with the translated page slugs I'm having.
