Background of the issue: Symptoms: Questions: I also want to make sure I don't incur credits automatically when click the "+" sign by a page - as has just happened with the activate page. I thought if I created a new page for Spanish then I could view on the front end, but that didn't work. |

Hello, Thank you for reaching out and providing the video and details about the site! If the homepage is not yet translated to 100% and published, it is expected that you receive this redirect. About String Translation: Other translations: Taxonomies, like categories and tags, can be translated at WPML > Taxonomy Translation, but they are by default also included in the WPML Translation Editor if you, for example, translate a post that has a specific category or tags assigned. I would suggest you first translate the homepage with the WPML Translation Editor to 100% and then revise the frontend in Spanish to see which strings might still need a translation. I will be glad to help if further assistance is needed. --- IMPORTANT: Could you please increase the WordPress memory limit (WP Memory Limit) to at least 256 MB? WPML requires at least 128 MB. Your current values are: To do this, you need to connect to your website's server and open the wp-config.php file in a text editor. The file is located in the WordPress root directory. Add this code to the wp-config.php file to increase WordPress's memory:
define ('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M');
Add this just before this comment: // That's all, stop editing! Happy blogging. The current values can be viewed under WPML > Support > WordPress. If you need my assistance with making this adjustment, please let me know. Best regards |

Hi Andreas, Unfortunately translating the home page was a disaster and messed up the entire page - I think some of it has to do with Directorist, some of it not, but this is looking like a bit of a nightmare task and I'm wondering if it's a viable project to even attempt to take on. hidden link |

Update: apologies for the knee jerk initial reaction of overwhelm with my first response above. 1. For now, I've removed the setting "This post is available in English" that you see in the loom above - because there's no option to distinguish between pages and posts that I can see. Can you please advise if this can be done easily, because for my blog posts, this would be a great addition. Thanks! |

You need to translate all Templates in Templates > All Templates. Click the "All" filter to see all available templates. Translated them using the WPML Translation Editor, similar to translating pages or posts. Further, we would need to run some tests regarding translations for the Custom Elementor Widgets from "Directorist AddonsKit for Elementor". If I were to provide a WPML test site, would it be possible for you to install the "Directorist" plugins for testing? If so, let me know, and I will send you a link to a test site. Further, note that the author of these plugins provides his own compatilbity addon for WPML, which means that the author is already handling WPML integration, and issues should generally be reported there. |

Hello again Andreas, I have to use a developer for Directorist as their support is so poor that they cannot be given access to my site. So really hoping this can be resolved without that. Absolutely, send the link through and I'll upload the plugins, thank you. "You need to translate all Templates in Templates > All Templates. Click the "All" filter to see all available templates." - I'll take a look at this. "Translated them using the WPML Translation Editor, similar to translating pages or posts." - can you please elaborate on what you mean here please? Many thanks. |

About Elementor Templates: When going to Templates > All Templates, you will see a list of available templates. There is a bug in Elementor, which means you will again need to click the "All" filter to see all templates of the site. Each template has translation icons for each language inside the list, similar to how posts and pages do. You should currenlty see "+" icons, which mean that the contents are not yet translated. If you click the "+" icon, the WPML Translation Editor should open. It looks by default like this: Make sure to complete the translations to 100%. --- About Directorist: I can provide support, but please take note that it is the responsibility of the author to obtain such compatilbity. When it comes to Elementor Widget translation, there are some things that we can achieve from WPML's settings, but if there are further issues, then they can only be solved if the author cooperates and adjusts the code of the affected third-party plugin properly. Here is the link to the test site. One-Click-Login: Please install the latest versions of: Make sure to leave me a comment once the plugins are installed. |

Thank you Andreas, all plugins have now been uploaded to the sandbox site. I appreciate you looking into Directorist and I'm really hoping it is something that can be resolved from your end as their support create more issues than they solve (breaking live site when staging site access is provided, switching off key plugins in live site ... wiping all custom CSS ... the list goes on and I simply cannot ever give them access to my sites again. I have had to spend a fortune getting a developer to plug all of the holes and bugs as I think I already. mentioned. Should I translate pages first and then Elementor templates - what's the best order to work on for this please? Many thanks again for your assistance and I look forward to your update. Regards, Sharon |

Also, I've just gone back into the About page - this is the third time I've translated it, and most if it has reverted to English despite me being fastidious about saving to translation memory and hitting the "Save and Complete" button. I really can't face doing this a fourth time and there seems little point because it's just not sticking? |

Hello, For now, do not proceed with the translations. The problem might be that the custom Elementor widgets of "Directorist AddonsKit for Elementor" will each need a proper XML configuration inside a wpml-config.xml to be translatable with the WPML Translation Editor, and if such a config does not exist, the strings of those widgets will not show up inside the WPML Translation Editor. I will look into this in detail tomorrow and try to provide a config for you. If you would like to give it a try yourself on the sandbox in the meantime, please follow this guide: Best regards |

Thank you Andreas. If it's okay with you, I'll leave this part with the experts - it's a bit beyond my capabilities. Is all of this the cause of the failure of the translations I've been doing to the About page to save as per my last loom? |

Hi, I have now created a WPML XML Configuration for the widgets of "Directorist AddonsKit for Elementor". Note that usually our support will not create such configurations, but as my current workload allows me to assist, I am making an exception. There are various problems: Most of these widgets do not include any text that could be translatable with the WPML Translation Editor. Most of the data in those widgets is dynamic data that is built directly from the database. The current WPML XML Config for all widgets of the plugin looks like this:
<wpml-config>
<elementor-widgets>
<widget name="directorist_all_listing">
<fields>
<field>header_title</field>
</fields>
</widget>
<widget name="directorist_search_listing">
<fields>
<field>title</field>
<field>subtitle</field>
<field>search_btn_text</field>
<field>more_filter_btn_text</field>
<field>more_filter_reset_btn_text</field>
<field>more_filter_search_btn_text</field>
</fields>
</widget>
<widget name="directorist_search_result">
<fields>
<field>header_title</field>
</fields>
</widget>
<widget name="directorist_category">
<fields>
<field>header_title</field>
</fields>
</widget>
<widget name="directorist_location">
<fields>
<field>header_title</field>
</fields>
</widget>
<widget name="directorist_tag">
<fields>
<field>header_title</field>
</fields>
</widget>
<widget name="directorist_user_login">
<fields>
<field>signin_username_label</field>
<field>signin_button_label</field>
<field>recovery_password_label</field>
<field>recovery_password_description</field>
<field>recovery_password_email_label</field>
<field>recovery_password_email_placeholder</field>
<field>recovery_password_button_label</field>
<field>signup_label</field>
<field>signup_linking_text</field>
<field>author_role_label</field>
<field>user_role_label</field>
<field>username_label</field>
<field>password_label</field>
<field>email_label</field>
<field>website_label</field>
<field>firstname_label</field>
<field>lastname_label</field>
<field>bio_label</field>
<field>privacy_label</field>
<field>privacy_linking_text</field>
<field>terms_label</field>
<field>terms_linking_text</field>
<field>signup_button_label</field>
<field>signin_message</field>
<field>signin_linking_text</field>
<field>active_form</field>
</fields>
</widget>
</elementor-widgets>
</wpml-config>
As you can see, the config is not very huge, as there are not many fields that actually could get translated. You can only send texts from Elementor Widgets to the WPML Translation Editor if the widgets have editable text fields. This config I saved at WPML > Settings on the tab "Custom XML Configuration". After that, the original widgets will need to be edited on the original contents, then the content needs to be saved, and once you open the WPML Translation Editor, the translatable texts should show up. Anything else, apart from this, is dynamic data coming from the database or is coded directly inside the plugins. This means ideally, as long as the Listings, their taxonomies are translated, you should see translated content on translated widgets and anything else, needs to be translated with WPML > String Translation. To make the listings translatable, go to WPML > Settings > Post Types Translation and set "Listings (at_biz_dir)" to "Translatable only show translated items". To make the listing taxonomies translatable, go to WPML > Settings > Taxonomies Translation and set the following entries to "Translatable only show translated items": Further, you will need to go to WPML > Settings > Custom Fields Translation These are global fields that control each listing. The fields should be adjusted before translating the listings. Usually, the author of the plugin can define a default config for all post types, taxonomies, and custom fields in a wpml-config.xml file, but as this is not the case here, each field will need to be configured manually. If you do not plan to translate the listings and their taxonomies, please let me know. Finally, I suggest you go to WPML > Translation Dashboard > Other texts (Strings) and enable the option to auto-detect strings on Frontend: If you now visit translate pages or listings, the strings that require translation at WPML > String Translation will be registered automatically. On our test site, I imported the demo content and used a dummy engine to translate all listings, taxonomies, and strings coming from the plugins. The auto-detection feature of WPML did in this case, not yet capture all the strings - there might be various reasons for that, for which each string would need to be investigated closely inside the code of the plugins. Suggestion: Then translate newly registered strings at WPML > String Translation. In my sandbox, you can currently review a page that includes all custom Elementor widgets of the plugin and is mostly translated: Some exceptions: - Add Listing Form There is sadly no workaround for that, as once I try to translate strings of this widget with WPML > String Translation, the strings disappear on the translated widget. - All Locations and other dynamic widgets - Search form Furthermore, the plugin by default uses shortcodes to, for example, display all listings in pages. This also does not work. The shortcodes are not displaying the translated listings. These issues might only be solvable by implementing compatilbity code for WPML inside the plugin, or the author might consider including actually all "Add listing" form fields inside the Elementor widgets, instead of loading them directly from the plugin's code. We can offer assistance on this matter, but it would be ideal if you first forward this message to the author and ask if there is any interest in making the plugin and its widgets compatible with WPML. The author will need to make use of the following hooks to make the plugin compatible with WPML: We can offer guidance on this behalf if the author is interested in making the plugin compatible with WPML. The author can fill out this form if there is any interest: Also note that the author has their own WPML Compatilbity Addon which currently seems not to work as expected. Example: After all, there are too many issues that I could solve in one support ticket. I hope for your understanding. |

Thank you so much for going to. such lengths to help, Andreas! I am working through all your advice as we speak and will reach back out with any questions if that is okay! I've forwarded your message to Directorist, but I sincerely doubt that they will action this. How nice it would be to be surprised on that front! One question right at the outset: if I follow these steps, will translations then save and not keep being lost? |
