This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem:
The client is using the Avada theme and translating their start page using the regular WordPress Editor instead of the WPML Editor. After updating, the translations disappear and revert to the original German text. This issue occurs regularly.
Solution:
We recommended that the client install the latest stable version of WPML instead of the beta version they were using. We provided instructions on how to switch from beta to stable versions and links to download the stable versions:
- How to install beta and development versions of WPML
- WPML Downloads
- WPML Multilingual CMS Changelog
- WPML String Translation Changelog
If you're experiencing this issue, we recommend trying these steps and ensuring you are using the latest stable versions of WPML. If the problem persists or the solution seems outdated or irrelevant to your case, please open a new support ticket. We highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins.

Hello, this is expected if you are mixing the translation methods. If you wish to use manual approach, via WP editor you need to switch to that editor for that page or general. Otherwise, WPML will consider you are using WPML ATE editor for translation. Image attached. Further info: Regards, |

Hello, edit your default language and you can change back to WPML editor, and then change back to WP editor, but if you have already done this it should work fine. Maybe warning stayed from before, but just in case make sure to confirm default language page is set to WP editor. Try to add some changes in 2nd language, save, and then re-update the default language, if the content in 2nd language stays, then it means it is configured correctly, if not let me know and share admin access to private fields and I will take a look. Hello Walter, sure, I can take a look. I tried but I get next message: LOGIN BLOCKED: 2FA is required to be active on your account. Please contact the site administrator. Can you please disable it temporarily while we check it out or enable me to login? Thanks, |

Hello, thanks. I did not check on the homepage since I see you are working on it, I created a new page Test WPML Support, and then duplicated and translated it manually and it seems to work fine, so might be the only issue with your current instance of the homepage. If it is okay, I suggest duplicating homepage to a new draft in default language, without translations or just copy pasting content to new page, and then do the manual translation workflow and it should work fine. You can then delete old homepage. Let me know if this helps. Regards, |

Hi! Actually, I was not really working on the webpage, so you could easily check there. But regarding to your suggestion: Would it mean that I have to translate everything again? This would be tons of translations and not doable! Could you please just check the start page in the original to see why it doesn't work? Best regards, |

Hello Walter, I was getting notifications from WP that another user is working on this page, so I could not access it. You would not need to re-translate if you already have translated the homepage, you can easily connect them. Anyway, I see now that your EN homepage is still in German, can you please make sure it is translated, and then I can easily create a new draft and do these steps for you? - hidden link I suggest this approach since sometimes there could be some DB corruption and it is easier to create a new page to avoid such a thing than to fix DB. As said if you have translations I can easily and quickly just copy them to the new homepage set it up and confirm it for you. Let me know. Thanks, |

Hi Drazen, Ok, but I cannot translate this website, since the translation disappears all the time after updating the English site. That's the problem. But I have the site translated offline. Regarding the setting up the site from scratch (creating a new draft): that we are clear on this, we are talking online about this one site ("Home") of the website and not all the different pages of the whole website? Or do you need to set a draft of all pages of the whole website? If it is only the one "home" site, you could create the new draft, and I put the English translation afterwards. Please let me know, how the procedure would be. best regards, |

Hello Walter, thanks for getting back. Yes I mean only for the Home page, since I do not see issues on other pages. Can you confirm issue happens only for the homepage or for all other your existing pages? If yes for all other pages, then of course my suggestion is not usable for your case and I will have another look and try other things. Let me know. Thanks, |

Hi Drazen, Thanks for asking. I had some similar problems in the past with at least one other site (e.g., hidden link) and the problem persists with this other site, too, as I have just noted. I have just updated the translation of this other site (hidden link) by adding some link. And now the whole translated site is again without translation and shows the original language. How can this be solved? Best regards, Walter |

...suggestion: you could reset these two pages (hidden link and hidden link). I will translate them again afterwards. If other sites on our website show some more similar problems in the future, I would then come back here to ask for a broader solution?! Best regards, Walter |

Hello, thanks. I could not access your DB, but if you can please try next. Sometimes, a post can be displayed as a duplicate, even if we set it as “translate independently”. It happens because something is wrong in the database when a third-party post has the “_icl_lang_duplicate_of” key with the wrong ID. Please make a backup before proceeding. FIX Please let me know how it goes. Thanks, |

Hi Drazen, I couldn't find these data. But maybe I was not looking correctly in the databse. I could give you access to the database if that helps via a private message. Best regards, Walter |
