My hosting partner confirms that "httpd_can_network_connect" is enabled and working correctly on the server.

Hi there! you can return your license to how it was (you can de-register it from plugin > Add New > Commercial) and then add your own license since the problem is not related to your account or the license.

We might know already what the problem is and we're trying to solve it. sorry for the wait, your case is highly unusual!

If you are on a hurry, you can update your plugins manually, but if it's possible, we'd be glad if you could create a staging site and check if the problem happens there as well, so we can make sure that you won't have issues with any other update afterwards.

I'm very curious if you can find the problem.

Regarding updating manually; you mean like this? https://wpml.org/faq/updating-wpml-manually/#:~:text=You%20can%20manually%20update%20WPML,database%20backup%20for%20the%20site ?

Could it be that there's a firewall in place in your hosting that could be blocking some inbound and/or outbound requests from us? because the problem here is that we never get the requests from your end and that's why as a result they return a forbidden status.

When i mentioned manual install, i meant downloading it manually from https://wpml.org/account/downloads/ (by clicking the link at the end of the page and downloading the plugins individually) and then installing it on your site from plugins > Add New.

But this is only needed if there was something specific you wanted to do with our latest versions.

Regards.

I will ask again the hosting partner.

I created a staging site and get a failed status when updating the plugins via 'commercial'.
Then I deregistered wpml from the staging site. Do I need to register the staging site? or?

The hosting provider did a 'summer check' on august 8.

During this summer check they changed some settings.

The following was then done:

SSL was forced

HSTS has been enabled as additional security

OpCache has been enabled

PHP version is set to the latest version (8.1)

All (core) WPML (language packs) have been updated

Can forcing the SSL and enabling the HSTS have anything to do with it?

Best, Chris

I'm aksing our systems team. i don't think the SSL forcing could generate problems but i'm not familiar with how would HSTS affect us (or if they would affect us). i'll wait for their answer and let you know.

This brings me to another question. did you ever successfully update WPML in the same wy that's now giving you the cURL error?

Yes I did. All my updates were succesfull. As well via the plugins > new > commercial way as for updating it in the plugin update screen.

When I manually update the plugin by simply uploading the zipfiles to wordpress. I don't have to disable and or delete the current plugins right? I can just overwrite it and I won't loose anything?

You don't have to delete anything, you can upload them normally and WordPress will tell ask if you want to overwrite the old with the new.

By the way, we checked everything on our end and we are even receiving your requests from WPML and are allowing them, not blocking them.

Could i be you're using an AUTH window? as in when you block the site by adding a window before th page loads where a user/pass is asked?

if that's the case, it could be that the window is blocking the incoming request because of the headers that window adds.

I don' t use an AUTH window?m I will try manually update then.

try to update manually and do the following afterwards:

- Follow this guide to unregister your site (delete your domain from wpml.org): https://wpml.org/faq/install-wpml/#unregister
- Then use this one to register it automatically: https://wpml.org/faq/install-wpml/#register
- Now click the "check for updates" again
- Try to download any of the other plugins.
- Save the time and date of the process and send it to your hosting
- Ask them if they can see any error or blockage in their servers in that timeframe (please send them your timezone too in case their servers have a different timezone on their end).

let's see if they can see anything happen there, maybe an IP blocked or something that we can use. let me know the same date and time as well so we can trace the call from our end as well and maybe send you information that could be useful to your hosting.

I will try!

Since you have access to my site. When I want to translate this product in a new language, or edit an existing language I get the message: A critical error has occurred on this site. Please check your site administrator email inbox for instructions. When I go back in the browser everything is fine. Everything works. However, I can't translate or edit this product.

Is this a stand alone problem? or does it have to do something with the current problem. And how to fix this?

Ok, thanks.

I see Wordfence plugin was disabled.

Did someone from the wpml support did this? I have the user data which I could share. It was from Foggia, Italy.

Regards, Chris

Hello, i had done this but i enabled it with the same configuration as before. it was me yes because i was trying to see if wordfence was creating any interference or installed something that would prevent our plugin from working or communicating with our servers (but it wasn't).

I'm not sure why my replies aren't reaching you because i've written 3 already so i hope this one does reach you.

------------

You were blocked today on our servers because of too many requests but we unblocked you. in the meantime i was trying to check what else could create this cURL error and i saw a code in the wp-config.php that could be part of the issue.

the code has a comment "too many redirections" and it seems to have been added by your hosting or a dev since it's not a default one on the wp-config.php file.

i'd ask you to talk to your hosting tosee if they added that code there because it looks like a workaround of a http > https redirection issue so you might want to check your database for similar occurrences and after that is fixed you can try to see if the cURL issue disappears.

also, i saw you had "redis" installed so i wonder if you can try disabling it (this should be done by your hosting) and try to download a plugin from our commercial tab and see if it helps instead.

Let me know if something changes in these scenarios so i can send that info to our systems team and try to find a solution for it.
