This is our main site: corporatedev.gofluent.com
Here is the copied version of it: hidden link

To be more precise, we have created a recording instead on tackling our current issues:

1. Missing translations on WPML, but translation content is showing on front end at the same time, there are instances form will work and won't work again, everytime this happens we go back checking WPML Dashboard and the translations are missing.
NOTE: In the video the sample has a few translation left, but we do have pages wherein all translation went missing completely

Hi there,

Thank you for contacting WPML support, I'd be happy to help you with this issue.

As I understand, the site hidden link has been moved or migrated from the sandbox site hidden link
and the page hidden link
is translated to the French language completely but when you edit the translation in the Advanced Translation Editor, some translated segments do not display.

It is possible that some new segments are added to the sandbox site and translated with the Advanced Translation Editor. Those segments are saved to the translation memory but it is associated with the sandbox domain, not the current domain.
When checking the Automatic Translation tab in WPML > Translation Management, I do not see both sites are linked to each other with an automatic translation account so the translation memory is not shared with the current site.
Please read more here https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/how-wpml-keeps-track-of-your-translations/

In this case, you can try to copy the translated segments in the French language and paste them to the Advanced Translation Editor and save changes.
Or try to create an automatic translation account and link them together to share the translation memory. Please read more here https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/automatic-translation-subscription-for-multiple-sites/

Look forward to your reply.
Thanks

Hello,

Just to be clear, hidden link is our main site. This is the instance we will be pushing through to go live, while the hidden link is only our pre-production. So this doesn't mean we migrated or moved it. I think the correct term would be copied, so it's just clear on both side.

With this, we don't update the sandbox and we're currently doing all the changes in the main website. But upon observation it seems that sanbox has no issues compared to our main website.

Even though you said that their ATE is connected, do you think it had an impact when we copied our main site and place it in our sandbox? Since for use, we can already assume that this is the root cause of the issue.

If this is the case, is there a way we can still bring back the main website without any issues same as with sandbox?

Thank you

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback.

If you do all changes on the main site, I think you or someone translates the page with the Classic Translation Editor (CTE). It is expected behavior when the translation is not available in the ATE if you use the CTE to translate the page and switch the editor then.

Please read more on the documentation
https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/translation-editor-options/
https://wpml.org/faq/why-arent-my-translations-showing/

Let me know if it is your case.

Hello,

No one used CTE in our team we always make sure to use ATE. So I'm not sure if this is a solution to our problem.

Thank you

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback.

I'm not sure why this happens but the translation is stored in the database so you can try to use the CTE to update the translation. Or paste the translation to the ATE again to save it to the translation memory.
Next time, if you move or copy your site, please read more on the documentation to set up correctly https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/advanced-translation-editor/using-advanced-translation-editor-when-you-move-or-use-a-copy-of-your-site/

Look forward to your reply.
Thanks

Hello,

In the beginning we have seen a prompt in WPML that says:

Site Moved or Copied - Action Required
Looks like this site is a copy of a different site, or moved to a new URL.
() I moved this site to this new URL
() This is a copy of my original site

And we just found out that someone ticked (I moved this site to this new URL) which shouldn't be the case since the purpose was creating a copy and not moving.

I think the reason why we are experiencing this issue is because of this. Is there a way we can revert it or change the settings to inform WPML that we have 2 site and the other is a copy and not a migration?

Or is it more worth it to use our preprod instead.

Hi,

Thank you for your feedback.

I check both sites hidden link (main) and hidden link (sandbox) on our server and see that:

- The sandbox site is moved from somewhere (maybe restore from backup) and created on September 30, 2022. It has about 32k words in the translation memory.

- The main site is a copy of the sandbox site, which means the action is: "This is a copy of my original site" and created on December 29, 2022. It has about 51k words in the translation memory.

In any case, Moved or Copied, the translation memory should be used on your main site as the note in the documentation https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/advanced-translation-editor/using-advanced-translation-editor-when-you-move-or-use-a-copy-of-your-site/

Note: Your copied site will keep your existing translation memory, but it will not continue to share the translation memory with the original site unless you link it with your existing automatic translation account.

You can try to make a small change to the page in the original language save changes and update the translation to see if it helps. If not, please try to copy the translation texts from the frontend and paste it to the translation editor and save.

Look forward to your reply.
Thanks

Is there a way we can revert it or change the settings to inform WPML to change who is our main site vs copied site

I think there is also some mixed up on what you sent since:
hidden link (main) is the one created on September 30, 2022
hidden link (sandbox) created on December 29, 2022

Which means on your reply, it means that sandbox is now our acting main site with 51k words in the translation memory, right?

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback.

1. There is no way to revert back the settings after you click Moved or Copied and re-select.

2. It is possible that the main site is synced back (and forth maybe) from the sandbox site on December 29, 2022 and action Copied was selected as I understand on our server log: 51k words in translation memory are associated with the main site (domain).

You can try to open the ATE on the sandbox site and see if the translation memory works there. If yes, please try to create an automatic translation account and link it with the main site. Please read more on the documentation
https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/automatic-translation-subscription-for-multiple-sites/

Look forward to your reply.
Thanks
