Hi,
I have a website that will have content shared between two localizations, but will also have content specific to each location. Both countries are english, Canada and US. If a translation is required, ie, “color” and “colour” I want those to be translated based on location.
If a user is visiting the site from us, they should be brought to domain.com/us/, and if they are in canada they should be brought to domain.com/ca/
This needs to be SEO friendly as well. So content should be accessible from each language structure, meaning domain.com/ca/news/article-name and domain.com/us/news/article-name.
Is this possible? I will be using Advanced Custom Fields and Yoast SEO along with this.
Some content will change depending on location. ie social links, which posts are looped etc.

which posts are looped etc.
If you are going to hardcode this in your PHP files, you can still detect the language with WPML APIs and display some code conditionally directly in your source file but this is not recommended. I don’t know what kids of loops you have in mind. I don’t want to interfere too much in your project but if you have a scenario like this in mind:
1. Your homepage for Canada handles 3 WP_queries
2. Your homepage for US handles 2 (maybe different) WP_queries
one solution would be to use the Views plugin, define each of the queries as a separate View which will be available as a short code later and then in your homepage body edit screen include only the shortcodes that are needed. The Views plugin is WPML fully compatible (we are the authors). If you want to test how it works, please use this link and choose “Only Views plugin” and “Multilingual with WPML” when you will be creating the site.
I have purchased Bazar shop. And I am just starting to develop my business as web design.
I wanted to know if wpml works with Bazar shop?
How much is the lifetime purchase including woo commerce?
Is arabic language covered in all your support?
Together with a team of volunteers, we are trying to build a site to help with the refugee crisis, where people in need can post what they need, individuals and ONGs all over europe can post what they can offer. This would create more of a dialog and we feel it’s the way forward. To no surprise translation will be a huge thing for this website, however we have no donations or funds. We would love to ask you about sponsor oportunities. Who should I speak with?
Hi George, yes you can handle this with WPML and WooCommerce Multilingual plugins. The WooCommerce Multilingual plugin allows you both:
1. Create some products in your primary language and not to translate them
2. Create some products in your secondary language without having the products in your original language.
My template (goodnes) has been bought from momizat.com.
Template support team advised your product for multilanguage.
By the way is it possible trial version if it solves multilanguage issue I will buy Multilingual Blog release.
Actually my site is not commercial is there any discount for non-commercial sites ?
Dear Mehmed,
We didn’t test this particular theme for WPML compatibility but we tested another theme from the same vendor: https://wpml.org/developer/momizat/
and if the support team recommends you to use WPML there are some big chances that your theme will work ok with WPML.
We don’t have a trial version but we have refunds policy that allows you to test WPML for 30 days with money back guarantee: https://wpml.org/purchase/refunds-policy/
I would like to purchase the lifetime wpml. We are a registered company in Belgium with a valid VAT number. But when i try to purchase WPML and fill in the VAT number, the VAT of 21% is still calculated in the total price (but that should not be the case for registered companies). Do i need to write the VAT number in some format for your website to recognize it and not have to pay the VAT?
Hi,
it should work exactly as you expect: if you have a company register with a VAT number VAT shouldn’t be added. Let me check this with our developers and I will get back to you. If needed I will contact you directly for more details. Just let me check this first.
Our VAT number is EU registered in the VIES database but the form still wants to charge 21% VAT on top of the price. I’ve tried to go through the Paypal payment but the amount is not correct so i cancelled there.
Could you have another look please or is there another way to pay the correct amount (without VAT charged)?
Hi,
you renew for the future updates and the support. So renewing is not obligatory. After the first year you can also upgrade to Lifetime and pay the difference only.
May I know the below:
1. If I am going to purchase 1 year license can I upgrade to lifetime license next year?
2. is it support the Traditional Chinese?
Hi,
1. Yes, you can. And you will pay the difference if you upgrade to Lifetime before your current subscription expires.
2. Yes, it support Traditional Chinese, but please note that WPML doesn’t translate your contents automatically.
We would like to purchase a lifetime license. We do not work with credit cards at our nonprofit organization. Can we pay with a bank transfer?
Thanks,
Debbie
I want to purchase your plugin, I am from canary Island, the VAT TAX (IVA) its not the same as rest of Europe 21%, HERE IT IS 7% TAX IGIC
can u help me with that?
Hi, could you please contact us using this form: https://wpml.org/home/contact-us/contact-form/
and we will handle your case manually. We realize there is such an issue and we with get it automated soon.
I’m setting up a site for a client with WPML. Is it possible when the site is finished to transfer the WPML to a new WPML account for the client, which will be paid by him in the future. What is the most smootful way to do it?
Hi,
WPML is just another WordPress plugin so if you are asking about a possibility to move it between sites, of course this is possible without any problems. If you refer to WPML as a subscription there is only one owner of the subscription, the person who purchased it. But if you want you can change the email address of the owner in your WPML settings, this is also possible.
Hi,
I am involved with a group in our company that manages translations through external contractors. Our primary CAT tools are SDL Trados Studio and Alchemy Catalyst. These are the preferred tools for our translators. Another group in the company has purchased the WPML plugin and sent us some XLIFF files for translation. Imagine our surprise when we found only 2 translation units: one for the title and then a massive one one with everything else encapsulated in a CDATA section. This seems, to me, contrary to the spirit and purpose of the XLIFF file format. While CDATA sections are legal, the standard also states: “The use of CDATA blocks is not recommended from the localization viewpoint”. Is this intentional from WPML? It seems contrary to the intent of providing a useful plugin when the XLIFF file cannot be easily used by CAT tools.
You have a good point. It’s been on our radar for a while and we intend to allow splitting content into different CDATA blocks. As you can see, right now, it’s not implemented, but we’re planning to do this in the future. This isn’t a feature that we’re working on right now, so I can’t give you a good schedule for it. Thanks for reminding about this issue. This helps push up the priority of this important work.
It is good to hear that you are looking into this. But why continue using CDATA blocks, which are not recommended in the standard? Why not properly create trans-unit elements for each piece of text?
Because some of the content that you will receive from WordPress is loaded with complex formatting. Without putting it in a CDATA block, this will require complicated escaping, which we’ve seen is prone to errors. This escaping will need to fully parse the content and it’s not always easy. Some pages include inline CSS and Javascript (bad habits), which in turn frequently include HTML snippets. Very problematic to escape, both for WPML and for the CAT tool.
I was purchased from you plug for ( translation ) to add another language for my website but does not active until now. So please help me about that and if you have any business contact phone to solve problem easily and directly with us because i need it quickly.
You should have received a new-account email, with the details to login to your WPML.org account. If you haven’t seen it, please check your SPAM folder, as it’s probably there.
Noor, please provide us with something that will help us identify you in our system. Your full name and the order number and we will send the credentials again. Please use this form https://wpml.org/home/contact-us/contact-form/ since we cannot exchange sensitive data via public comments.
How can i make sign up in WPML to allow me log in and take support ?
Hello
I have a client that is using woocommerce but his shop is in dollars, but he would like people to have the option of either paying with PayPal or Payfast, but with woocommerce i see if your shop isn’t in Rands then it doesnt allow you to use Payfast.
I have spoken to WooThemes and they tell me they not 100% sure and that I should check with you if I use the WooCommerce Multilingual Plugin with WPML if it will work? Is this possible? Is there a way to do this so people have an option of paying with Rands on website thats set in Dollars?
Our plugins, WooCommerce Multilingual is intended for websites that have more than one language. In that case, you can also map different currencies to different languages. However, it does not work on sites that use a single language. So, I think that it’s not what you are looking for.
Hello, WPML doesn’t translate your site automatically. You can use WPML to turn your WordPress site into multilingual one (use the languages you want to) but providing the translation is a separate issue. Here are the possible options:
1. Do this manually – copy from the documents your customer has provided and paste translations directly into your WordPress. This is a simple process but a very time-consuming one.
2. Send your content to your own translators via XLIFF files. WPML Translation Management module helps you here.
3. Send your content to a professional translation. Completed translations appear automatically in your site. No manual work is needed. You pay extra for this, depending on the number of words to translate.
Hi, we are about to purchase your plugin but would like to know if the following can be done first:
1.) Be able to assign a different author per post. I read that WPML adds a separate post for each translations so I’m guessing this is possible?
2.) Be able to translate custom profile fields / user meta’s. We have created additional custom profile fields like quotes for each user. I’ve read this thread https://wpml.org/forums/topic/how-to-translate-custom-user-meta/ and you mentioned it’s added on your to-do list years ago.

Hi again,
I have just replied to your previous comment so let me answer what’s left:
WPML is SEO friendly:
https://wpml.org/documentation/plugins-compatibility/using-wordpress-seo-with-wpml/
https://wpml.org/documentation/support/multilingual-seo/
when you turn your post/pages to be multilingual ready you will be able to access them on separate URLs.
WPML supports translating fields created with ACF
https://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/setting-wpml-advanced-custom-fields/
WPML works well with the Yoast SEO.
How you translate them depends how this is implemented. Better not to hardcode it.
If you are going to hardcode this in your PHP files, you can still detect the language with WPML APIs and display some code conditionally directly in your source file but this is not recommended. Hi,
I’m trying to purchase wpml with a greek VAT number but in the checkout form I get VAT API Error: MS_UNAVAILABLE even if I use the country prefix.
I don’t know what that means and I’m not sure what I am doing wrong.
Thanks,
Hi, looks like something is not working as it should on our side. Let me check this with our developers and I will be back to you.
Could you please try again? We rely on the EU VAT validation system to be available and sometimes it’s not so we get these messages.
Hello,
Is it possible to arrange flags horizontal in the menu. Without using widgets?
Thanks.
Yes, this is possible with some custom CSS.

Hi, yes for both questions. So you can assign different authors per post. And you will be able to translate custom fields with WPML.
Thanks, we already purchased the plugin. We surely can translate the author fields using String Translations but only the default ones (first name, last name, etc.). We have custom fields and they don’t appear on the Authors domain http://i.imgur.com/OjeJh9V.png
The custom user fields were added via the hooks:
add_action( ‘show_user_profile’, ‘show_extra_profile_fields’ );
add_action( ‘edit_user_profile’, ‘show_extra_profile_fields’ );
Thanks
Hi, thanks for purchasing the plugin. Now you can ask technical question in our support forum.
