I was wondering what the URL looks like when installing WPML in a multisite enviroment.

domain.tld/sitename/pagename
With WPML would it now be
domain.tld/lang/sitename/pagename
oder
domain.tld/sitename/lang/pagename
I recently installed a WordPress site. My goal is to share general information and best lists etc. I’m not very familiar with WordPress or website work. My problem is this: I want to share both English and Turkish content on the site.
I do not know how to set this location-based or user based. I want the users of the site from Turkey, Turkish, etc. that appear in the menu and only the Turkish article. If the user is from abroad, the site, menus, etc. in English.
Is this possible? How can I do if possible? If not, what do you think I should do? Because I write both Turkish and English articles, I would like to make more use of both English and English. If you help me with this questions and give me some advice and tutorials about how can I do that via your app, I gladly purchase your application.
Hello,
do you mean if you can translate your feature images and use a different one for each of your languages, with different captions and alt attributes? Yes, WPML can handle that.
Hello Matt,
it depends on the theme you use and how your header and footer are built. If your theme is WPML compatible you should be able to translate every piece of your site, including stuff coming from header and footer.
Hello,
thanks for your interest in WPML. No, we don’t have a trial option. But our refund policy allows you to test WPML for 30 days without any risk. It’s even better than a trial since during the probation period you can ask technical questions in our support forum.
I´m interested on purchasing Multilingual CMS or Multilingual Agency, but from what i understand, the only difference between CMS and Agency is the number websites registered, 3 for CMS and unlimited for Agency.
But using Multilingual CMS, i will only be able to register 3 websites (updates, support, etc), but i will be able to install and use WPML fully on unlimited websites but those extra websites will not be registered (updates or support), but all WPML functions will be available, correct?
Yes, it will work exactly as you expect. The same applies to the case when your subscription expires. You can use WPML but without access to new versions and our support forum.
Hi Tiago,
Agnes has closed for the day. Yes, you can upgrade to Agency at any time for the difference only. You only need to log in to your account to do it.
Hello Joe,
Thanks for your interest. I am afraid we have started to work with Ulitimate Member plugin authors but they have stopped replying to us. I cannot say it will work 100%. Let me check with the tech team. I will contact you back via e-mail about this.
I have specific requirements, i want to use this with acf-to-rest-api with acf, each post should be able to have a different featured image also, all this is also running under custom post types, is this possible?
Generally speaking, if you can do it without WPML in one language you should be able to do it with WPML in several languages.
As usual with REST API you may have to add some code for specific things (like exposing the CPT to rest)
But if you are fluent with REST there should be no problem with WPML.
If you run into anything we can help you in our support forum.
I have a question: I made a website with a theme I downloaded from themeforest. This one is compatible with WPML, so no problem. I made the website in English and with WordPress settings “Site Language” on English(UK). I did this because this theme (Soho hotel booking) came in this language. But now I want to make it multilingual with main language Dutch and as extra languages English, German, French. Finally my question: In which way should I install WPML? With site language still English, or adjust it to Dutch? Or should I just install it with English as main language and later on make Dutch as main language? Won’t I get this problem: http://www.mywebsite.nl is english now and http://www.mywebsite.nl/nl is dutch??
Hope you understand what I mean 😛
Another question:
Can I also add extra languages llike a few months later? Like maybe Spanish, Chinese and Japanese? Or does this needs to be done when installing the plugin?
Hello Henk,
Your comment was awaiting moderation. You can install WPML at any step of the site development. YOu will be asked to select the source and the translated languages. When you do, select Dutch as the source and any other languages as the translation. If you need to add more languages you can do it later on, not a problem.
I’m not sure if I made it clear in a good way.
– I am from the Netherlands, so the main language needs to be Dutch.
So the Dutch language needs to be on http://www.mywebsite.nl
– But I bought an English Theme, and with this came widgets and stuff with text I couldn’t translate directly into Dutch. That’s why I first made the entire site in English.
– If I do as you say, then I will have my Dutch pages in English first. I copied those “Dutch” (in English) pages to the English. And I would have to adjust these “Dutch” pages to Dutch.
Is it still possible to adjust those english widget names to dutch with string translations?
Hi Henk,
Even if the site default language is Dutch, the default language for strings is still English (it can be adjusted if necessary). You will need to translate the strings from Dutch to English.
Hello, the website I’m currently working on is translated into both languages Polish and English with Polylang plugin. I found out today when working with event calendar plugin that I can’t create calendar in different language than English, so I googled and found out solution to migrate Polylang plugin to WPML (because WPML is compatible with The Event Calendar Pro). So everything looks cool I saw tutorial on youtube how to do migration, but I am little bit concerned that after migration the website data can be corrupted.
Hi,
I tried to make a purchase few times and no result, I am getting information that my card is decline or card information can’t get through… I have debit card, I don’t have credit to use.. please help me to make a purchase
Hello Sophie,
Please contact your bank about this. You may need to get authorization from them to make this specific online purchase first. Remember you can also use PayPal, if you have an account.
A couple of followup questions from my original post. I tried replying but it didn’t work and it has been a coupe of days.
1. What if I do not want my blog posts and pages translated – is this possible to leave theme Chinese?
2. What if I do not want a page translated? Will it still show up in Chinese in the menu
Hello Marcelo,
Thanks for your interest. I am afraid the lifetime subscription has been removed and we are not selling it anymore. You can see the current options here https://wpml.org/purchase/. We now offer yearly subscriptions with automatic renewals.
Hi, I’m due to launch a website shortly (currently being finalised) and we’d like to have a translation into three languages – I have a few questions I’d like answering about the service please as I’m new to this:-
– Can it translate into the three languages we want and is it the one overall cost?
– Which package do you recommend for our site? – the multilingual cms?
– Not quite sure how it all works -once we pay the fee to join is it all done – I have already linked WPML to my WordPress CMS. Is it all automatic once we’ve registered and paid the fee?
– How long does it take to translate it?
– Is the $79 an all in cost for the whole year?
– Does it translate every page or just the static ones (ie if I update the blog does it do that?)
– Will they understand technical industry terms/jargon and translate it properly?
Hello Jo,
Thanks for your interest. WPML allows to translate the content of your site in different ways. You can activate our Advanced Translation Editor and use the machine translation at no further cost, you can use one of our integrated translation services at a separate cost, or add your own translations manually, More info here https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/
The CMS version gives you access to all the modules (besides the core plugin), it will allow you to translate all parts of your site. The CMS version costs 79$ and has a renewal fee of 59$/year.

Are you offer WPML for free to nonprofits?
Hello, the website I’m currently working on is translated into both languages Polish and English with Polylang plugin. If I will purchase plugin or get free license as a non profit organization I will get migration plugin from you? How does it work?
Thanks a lot 🙂
Could you please let me know if WPML offer free license for non profit organization ?
Hi Sophie,
Thanks for your interest. I am afraid we no longer offer non-profit subscriptions for free. You are welcome to try WPML and see how it works for you. You have until 30 days to do it and get a refund, if you need it https://wpml.org/purchase/refunds-policy/
The transition should be fine, if you run into any issues our supporters can assist you at the forum. You will need the CMS subscription to translate The Events Calendar and to download Polylang Importer. More details here

Hello,
as long as the plugin you use is compatible with WPML, you will be able to translate in WPML all the strings coming from your plugin.
Please check the list of plugins compatible with WPML here.
https://wpml.org/documentation/plugins-compatibility/
We also have a Polylang->WPML migration plugin, in case you decide to migrate to WPML.

Do you still offer WPML free of charge to charities and non profits please?
