  1. Hi, everybody, I have a question but it seems impossible to get in touch with any employee….

I have 2 languages on my site Dutch en English and for both languages, I made the pages. How can I add an existing page as a translation instead of opening a new page?

Hopefully, someone can help me, sent me an email, please!

    • Hello,
what do you mean by “but it seems impossible to get in touch with any employee”. Are you our customer and you tried our support forum?
Here, in pre-sales comments, it’s difficult to help with technical issues, especially when follow-up questions appear. For example, I’m not sure what you mean by “add an existing page as a translation”. This is how WPML works – it always creates a new page when you translate your page.

  2. Can I use WPML on a multi-site WordPress site, and then have it use the directory URL approach to appear under that?

    e.g. I have a multisite install with a ‘main’ site at https://www.mywpsite.com/
I want the new WPML enabled multi-site at https://www.mywpsite.com/wpmlsite/
And I want WPML to use directory url method so I end up with:
    https://www.mywpsite.com/wpmlsite/en/
    https://www.mywpsite.com/wpmlsite/fr/
    https://www.mywpsite.com/wpmlsite/de/

    etc.

Please confirm the url directory approach with WPML will work for a multi-site wordpress site which resides in a subdirectory of its own as above.

    Thanks.

    • Hello Tim,
yes, the url directory approach with WPML will work for a WordPress site running in the WordPress Multisite mode which resides in a subdirectory of its own. Please enable the WPML plugin(s) only for this subsite and then it will act as a regular/standalone WP.

  3. Hi,
We have a multisite network install with WPML, same domain (It is a Hotel group, with each individual hotel in its own sub-folder/languages). What license do I require? We are currently looking at CMS, but it says you can only register 3 sites.
    Thanks,
    Anton

    • Hello, if this is only one WordPress installation, you need to use only one key (you need to register only the main domain).

  4. Hi support,

We want to use the WPML for our current development site. We have two concern about the plugin
    – Do we support the testing environment site? Our current development process like testing, stage, preprod, prod environments.
    – Can we it together with WordPress Bedrock + Sage?

    Thanks and best regards,
    Hai Vo

    • 1. Yes, but our system request registering/using one key per domain. So in case, you don’t want to register and unregister the domain/keys a few times you would need to use separate keys for each of your domains. But registration is required only to receive automatic updates directly from your WP dashboard.
      2. Do you mean the Sage theme? Yes, it’s compatible: https://wpml.org/theme/roots/ but it was last tested more than 5 months ago
We don’t know much about WPML + WordPress Bedrock. The only thread I found is this one: https://wpml.org/forums/topic/problems-with-trellisbedrock-and-the-event-calendar-plugin-translation/

      • Hi Agnes Bury,

        Thank you for your reply.

        1. We need to purchase license for each domain ever just our testing and local development stuffs?

We don’t allow automatic update in WP dashboard, any update is come from your code first.

        2. Sound great! in Bedrock, the structure don’t allow to any plugin or theme to edit the WP core code which have manage by Composer.

So I want to sure WPML don’t modify any WP core code.

        • 1. You don’t need to purchase a separate license for your live/test domain. By automatic updates, I mean that you will get notification in the admin that a new version is available (nothing will happen automatically).
          2. WPML doesn’t modify any WP core code.

          • Hi Agnes Bury,

May I clarify a bit more about the live/test domains and keys?
If live/test domains are separate WP installations, I can install and use the WPML plugin on both domains without registering the key at all?

The key is just for automatic notification on updates? Do I need the key if I need to update the plugin on live and test domains?

            Thanks!!

            • Yes, 1 key = 1 domain.
If you buy the CMS package, you will be able to register 3 domains (use 2 keys at the same time).
Yes, the key is for automatic notification on updates. If you want to update the WPML plugins on live and test domains at the same time, you need to use 2 separate keys?

  5. Hi guys!!!I am trying to buy the Multilingual CMS. So I am tryin to register and it says an error that my email is already registered!! I have never been registered in WPML and moreover i have never use the company’s credit card.

    Thank you in advance!!!!

    • Hello,
yes, your email exists in our system but I can see “This user has no subscriptions for this status.” I will ask one of our admins to check your case to see why the account was created. Maybe your previous order didn’t complete? We’ll keep you posted.

  6. We are trying to buy wpml for our business website, however, we still don’t have a VAT number yet. Is it possible to add it to the invoice later? What difference does providing a VAT make? (the company is registered in Germany)

  7. Hello, I have WPML installed due to my contractor. Is it possible to purchase support access only so that I can fix issues on my own instead of relying on my contractor to do them?

        • Sorry, I just checked out the URL (https://wpml.org/purchase/transferring-account-renewals-to-your-clients/) and can see that it works for Lifetime accounts too.

But for Lifetime accounts, it means that after the transfer, I (as the client) will have to pay $39 a year for updates and support?

Cos currently, I’m already getting updates even without yearly renewal right?

Wouldn’t it be more cost effective for me to make “renewal payments” for the tier WPML blog instead to gain access to support since I already have lifetime updates and only need access to support?

Also, how does this transfer work if I end up switching my domain in future? i.e I change my domain name and migrate my site over. Am I able to deactivate the license on the old site and reactivate the license on the new site using the same activation key?

          Thanks 🙂

          • Hello Callie,
If your site is registered through your developer account and they have a lifetime subscription you will keep receiving updates normmally. If you want to access support independently you will need the end-user account. It costs 50% of a full CMS subscription, which is already a very good offer (39$ to acces technical support and receive updates independently). About the domain question, the technical team is taking a look and I will lete you know via e-mail when we have an update about this.

            • hi mercedes,

thanks for your reply. so can i confirm the following that will happen post-transfer (keeping in mind that my site is registered with through my developer who has a lifetime subscription account):

              1. i will gain access to support for 1 year
              2. should i choose to stop my yearly renewal, i will lose access to support BUT will still continue receiving updates normally
              3. if I need access to support again, I can choose to pay for renewal again at $39 for another 1 year of support

And, I cannot access support through the purchase of a WPML blog account instead. Is that what you’re saying?

Also, looking to hear back from you regarding the change in domain issue. Thanks 🙂

              • Hello Callie,
Let me summarized once again, how it will work.
If you buy this option, we provide now, you will get access to your support (and WPML updates) for as long as your subscription is active. You can cancel your subscription any time and you will lose access to our support forum. The Blog subscription allows you to access our support forum as well but please note that in this subscription you have access to only one WPML plugin (the core one) and if you have issues with other plugins, our supporters won’t be able to help you.

Changing domain is not possible at the moment but our developers are working on that and it will be possible in the future. Once this is possible, you will need to log into your WPML account and change the domain for your registration key. The key will remains the same but will be assigned to a new domain.

                • Thanks for the clarification Agnes but if I take up your option now, once I stop the renewal payments:

                  1. Do I lose access to updates as well? Cos I currently have lifetimes updates without having a pay a recurring subscription

                  2. If I choose to resume my subscription at a later time, I will pay $39 a year again?

Assuming my site is http://www.domain.com and my development site is dev.domain.com, do I need another license for my development site? Or will 1 license suffice?

                • 1. Yes, you will lose access to your updates. You get access for as long as your subscription is active.
                  2. Yes, you need to pay again according to our current pricing. Right now is what you can see in this table: https://wpml.org/purchase/
                  3. If you have a separate instance of WordPress on your subdomain, then yes, you need a new key (you can use the WPML plugins without the key but in this case, you won’t be able to receive updates directly from your WordPress admin).

    • Hello, yes, you can start with the Blog version and you can upgrade to the CMS package later (our system will calculate the difference in purchase price according to what you already paid). The CMS package provides an additional WPML plugin so you won’t need to change anything in your existing WPML core plugin if you upgrade.

  8. Hi

I would like to ask about the website quota and renewal.

    1. If I do not renew the account, do I have to use all the 3 website quotas within the same year?
    2. Can I unregister a key from Domain A and use it on Domain B?
    3. Can I upgrade from Multilingual CMS to Multilingual Agency? Can I do it over a year?
    4. After a year of purchasing Multilingual CMS, can I cancel renewal on the 2nd year, then renew it on the 3rd year?

    Thank you!

    • 1. Sorry, I don’t understand this question. You can use WPML plugins for as long as you can, even if you don’t renew your account.
      2. Yes, you can.
      3. Yes, you can.
      4. Yes, you can.

    • Hello,
Yes, your subscription is automatically renewed every year unless you cancel it. You can buy WPML and cancel immediately after the purchase and use WPML plugins for as long as you need it. After the first year, you won’t have access to update and our support forum.

  9. English is not my first language and I am very new at this, so I am sorry if I ask stupid questions:
The site is under construction and will be moved to https://lisberg.dk/ when finnished Wil that count as use of two sites?
    Will WPML work in danish?
Wil WPML work still work with Spacious pro? (I saw that last test was in 2016)

    Best regards
    Flemming

  10. Hi there – we have a query on the automatic translation pricing for our client’s website of ~70,000 words.

In April 2020 near the end of development, we need to do a one-off automatic translation of the site from English into 6 other languages. Is it correct that if we sign up for the 100,000 quota / $17 per month subscription in April this will cover what we need? (i.e. will cover translating 70,000 words into 6 languages?) Or would it be 70,000 words x 6 languages = 420,000 words / $72?

In May 2020, we will need a smaller amount of automatic translation, maybe 10,000 words. Is it correct that our subscription payment would automatically be less that month? ($7)

In June 2020 onwards, we may do no automatic translation. Is it correct that our subscription payment will then automatically be $0?

Is it correct that once words are translated, there is no ongoing cost to ‘maintain’ the translation? So the automatic translation price covers the cost of running the automatic translation and once this is done, we don’t need to keep paying to maintain the 70,000 word website in another language?

    Thank you for your help!

    • Hello,
420,000 words would be needed in your case (70,000 words x 6 languages) so you will need to contact us and enable the 500,000 words per month option
      2) In May 2020, we will need (…) – Yes (15000 words per month package)
      3) In June 2020 onwards (…) – Yes
      4) Is it correct that once words (…) – Yes

      • Hi Agnes, I would like to buy the 79USD version but in the basket it keeps on adding the account renewal. I dont want to buy the account renewal, nor want to later cancelt it somewhere. Can you help and make sure I can order only the normal version without renewal?

        • Hello, you need to buy with renewals (that’s how our system work) but you can cancel your renewals whenever you want to. Even right after the purchase and this page explains how to do it: https://wpml.org/purchase/how-to-change-your-payment-method/  Please note that even if cancel your renewal immediately after the purchase, you can use WPML for the first year with access for our support forum and updates. After the first year, you can still use WPML plugins but without access to new version and our support assistance.

  11. Hi Agnes,

Me again. Sorry, I just have 1 more question to ask with regard to the transfer option. To recap, this is what you confirmed:

    1. Even though I have lifetime updates now, if I request for my developer to use the transfer option, I will lose access to my updates once I stop the yearly renewal payments of $39/year. I get access to both support and updates for as long as my subscription is active.

    2. If I request for my developer to use the transfer option and I stop the yearly renewal payments of $39/year but decide to continue my renewal payment after some time has passed, it will still be at $39/year.

So, my next question is, if I have 3 websites with WPML lifetime from my developer and only 1 of them gets transferred, are my support questions only limited to questions pertaining to that 1 domain that gets transferred? Or can I ask any support question?

    • Hello Callie,
      1. Yes, that’s correct.
      2. I need to check this without a development team. This whole thing is new for us and our documentation doesn’t provide the answers to this question either. https://wpml.org/purchase/transferring-account-renewals-to-your-clients/
      3. I think that the support will not be limited to one site, especially considering that our development team works on adding a feature to change the domain, but again, let me consult it with our team. It might take a while. Thank you for your patience.

      • Hi Agnes,

Thank you. Please be sure to get back to me as soon as you find out the answers from your development team because I’m now unsure of how I should proceed with my WPML installed sites. The costs will be too high for us to maintain if we have to transfer all our sites and pay a yearly renewal fee just to gain access to support.

So I hope that a single site transfer will be enough to have access to your support team 🙂

Thank you again and I’ll be waiting for you here 🙂

        • Hello Callie,
yes, $39 is a constant price but if you have more than one domain, you are right, it might make better sense to consider buying the WPML CMS subscription instead. The transfer makes sense only for clients with one domain. We need to discuss it with our management. I’ll keep you posted.

          • Hi Agnes,

Thank you for understanding from my perspective. So now that I know that the renewal is at a constant price of $39/year and that I can pause renewals in between, all I need to know now is:

for multiple domains, can I transfer just 1 account in order to gain access to your support team?

To make sure we are on the same page, this is what I envisioned: I have WPML installed on domainA.com, domainB.com and domainC.com and all 3 of them have lifetime access to WPML.

I request for my developer to transfer domainA.com to WPML and pay $39/year to continue support. In doing so, I lose lifetime updates for domainA.com and will have to make yearly renewals in order to continue having updates

However, I now have access to support and my support queries extend to include troubleshooting for domainA.com, domainB.com and domainC.com

If I pause renewal payment for DomainA.com, I will lose access to support and updates for DomainA.com

However, DomainB.com and DomainC.com continue to enjoy lifetime updates (but without support too).

When I restart renewal payment for DomainA.com, it will be at the same rate of $39/year. Once I restart renewal payment, domainA.com will once again receive updates and all 3 domains will enjoy support again.

Please check with your management if this is going to be how the renewal system work for owners with more than one domain.

            Thank you!

            • ok, I doubled checked with our developers and they are working on a fix, where users like you will be able to switch domains and use the same key. Right now it is not possible but it will soon (in a week maybe, I cannot provide any ETA). It means, that you will be able to get support for any of your domains. This is not possible right now but it will be soon.

              • Thanks Agnes, please be sure to update me when the fix is ready. Waiting for a week is fine 🙂

But just to clarify, will it work like this:
                https://imgur.com/a/u1zUHG6

*I created a table so that I can make sure we have the same understanding 🙂

                • To add on, my main concern right now is that:

Since I have lifetime updates, support is an on-demand thing for me. I believe I don’t need support every single year.

But I definitely need continuous updates.

So whilst I’m fine with paying for support when I need assistance or when an update causes an issue, I don’t wish to be caught in a situation where renewal payments become compulsory for me in order to continue getting updates.

Because like I said, I’m already getting lifetime updates.

To switch from getting lifetime updates to getting yearly updates with support will be kinda like a downgrade? You get what I mean? 🙂

                • Yes, if you are interested in getting lifetime updates for free as you’ve been doing so far, maybe, in this case, it’s not worth transferring your domain(s). We no longer provide lifetime accounts.

  12. Hello, we have built this site using Be Theme and WPBakery and we’re trying to determine which version of the plugin we’d need to purchase. We do not use Woocomerce or custom post types. Do we need to purchase Multilingual Blog or Multilingual CMS? Thanks

  13. We have a question about the currency converter. We would like to use WPML to have a currency converter on an international site. We would use fixer.io or currencylayer as per your documentation:

Use the Exchange rates source to select the source of the exchange rates data. You can choose from two renowned services including Fixer.io and currencylayer.
You can set an additional Lifting charge percentage to adjust the final, effective exchange rate. This is usefuI for internationaI transactions that may add additional charges.
The following is how the effective rate is calculated, based on the set lifting charge:
    Effective Rate = Service Rate x (1 + Lifting Charge / 100)

For our products, in some countries, the currency conversion fails to take into consideration certain increased and unique installation costs for that particular country. So, is it possible to set a certain lifting charge for example for Australia and a different lifting charge for Singapore, and so on?

Or, have I incorrectly read your documentation, and any lifting charge applied to a product, will be applied to all currencies? It will be the same surcharge to every currency we convert to?

    • Hello,
we don’t have Geo-Location settings for currencies yet (we have plans to add it). All exchange rates apply for currencies in any language/country.

  14. the key system is failing, the generated code is being declined by the plugin, i’ve a Lifetime account, and cant find a sales support mail where must i contact? thanks!

  15. Hi we boughtWPML for WordPress but don’t know how to translate it? The question is: How to translate complete data of website as I do not see Editor for inserting data in different language?

  16. Hello!

I want to purchase the WPML but still not sure which plan I should take since It’s 1 website I’m doing right now that should be in Arabic and English only (no woo commerce is used).

I won’t be needing translation since I will be putting the content myself in both languages.

So which one shall I purchase? The blog or CMS?

    • Hello Samar,
If you want, you can start with the Blog package and upgrade to the CMS later for the difference in the purchase price. The Block package includes the core WPML plugin which allows you to translate your pages, posts, categories and your navigation. But if you have anything extra to translate, maybe some strings coming from your theme or you use a page builder, you will need to CMS package.
