We are building a multi-site website on wordpress. So the idea is, We will use multi-site and each site will have different translation. We will be using either subdomains or own domains for each country and each will have different translation.
Multi-site WordPress (Sub-Domain)
– Singapore Site (sg.websitename.com)
— Translation: EN/SC (Using WPML Plugin)
– Taiwan Site (tw.websitename.com)
— Translation: EN/SC (Using WPML Plugin)
– Hong Kong Site (hk.websitename.com)
— Translation: EN/SC (Using WPML Plugin)
Multi-site WordPress (Own Domain Each)
– Singapore Site (websitename.com..sg)
— Translation: EN/SC (Using WPML Plugin)
– Taiwan Site (tw.websitename.com.tw)
— Translation: EN/SC (Using WPML Plugin)
– Hong Kong Site (hk.websitename.com.hk)
— Translation: EN/SC (Using WPML Plugin)
QUESTIONS:
What kind of license needed for ‘Sub-domain’?
Do we need to purchase one license for each ‘sub-domain’?
What kind of license needed for ‘Own Domain’?
Do we need to purchase one license fpr each ‘domain’?
Is the string translation addon included once we purchase WPML?
What addons are included when we purchase WPML?
What addons need to run WPML in a multi-site like do we need string translation, translation manager etc, since we will have multi-site and each site will have multiple translation?
You need only one key per WordPress install. So consider your WordPress Multisite one site. Once your have the WPML’s main plugin installed, on the network level you need to go to Plugins -> Add new -> Commercial tab and provide the key.
Case one from your list is easy to set up using WPML.
To answer your other questions.
The Multilingual CMS package includes all our plugins (Translation Management and String Translation and more). In your WP Multisite you will see them all under Plugins -> Add new -> Commercial tab once your install the WPML’s main plugin.
“Do mind that different subsites from the multisite install behave separately (independently) one from the other and cannot be linked together – if the user decides that he wants that at a future date.
This means that if the user has a shop in the main site, that is translated to another language and he has a shop on the second site, that is translated to another site – they will not be linked together and will not share the same product data/stock & etc… I am saying this because some people have asked for that in the past.”
We have 2 server setup:
1 Server for Production: example.com (Multi-site)
1 Server for Dev and Staging:
– Dev, dev.example.com (Multi-site)
– Staging, staging.example.com (Multi-site)
Do we still need to purchase 1 plugin for all? What is your suggestion?
By one plugin, you mean if you need only one registration key? You need one key per domain but registering is required only for updates. You can also delete your existing key and generate a new one with a new domain.
Yes, Because our plan is to buy 1 plugin and to use it across 2 servers.
Server 1: Production( We are using Load Balancer, We have Production 1 and 2 )
Server 1 URL: example.com
Server 2: Dev/Staging
Server 2 URLs: dev.example.com, staging.example.com
Our flow is, we will install the plugin on dev and using git we will pull the updates to staging and production.
If there a new updates for the plugin, we will update the plugin in dev then once that is updated, we will pull the updates to staging and production. Will that work or we will face any issues?
Can we still use 1 plugin and just use the flow i stated on the previous comment?
Hello,
I’m not sure what you mean by 1 plugin? in the WPML CMS package, you will see more than 1 plugin. In terms of licensing, you need to use one key for your WordPress installation. The CMS package will allow you to register up to 3 domains but as mentioned before WordPress Multisite counts as one domain as long as this is one physical WP install. You can delete your registration key and create a new one (with a new domain) in its place. The registration key is not required for plugins to work but for updates. PLease check here how you generate the key: https://wpml.org/faq/install-wpml/#register
Hello, it will work but our registration key is actually a pair: numbers+domain. The registration key needs to be provided only if you would like to update the plugins to the new versions. So you might need to delete your old key and generate a new one for your new domain name.
good day
before i made a purchase i would like to test plugin , so is there any testing code i can use to check it work fine with me
also because i don`t have a seals this days i would to ask if you can supply a good discount for a purchase
I am building a multilingual website and I would like to know if using wpml cms enables me to use the same SKU for the same product across three different languages.
Hi Martha,
thank you for your interest in WPML. SKU values for other languages will sync automatically by default but you can disable this option in WPML settings and set to translate.
“I have a link for the WMPL as follows, used by my previous provider that built my website: https://wpml.org/purchase/?add-to-cart=5513631&token=FvX0miOKyc&client=7f65651a413cf4d36f5e8b4b6b9963d2 Via that link the fee is $39 instead of $79 and is valid for my domain http://www.yolandejimenez.com. However because of a lot of problems with the updates, we are building right now a new website in a subdomain: the test.yolandejimenez.com. And when ready, we will transfer the subdomain to the http://www.yolandejimenez.com and delete the old website. So the subdomain is used temporarely. Can I use the license of $39 first for the test.yolandejimenez.com and when ready than transfer the license to http://www.yolandejimenez.com? And how can we arrange that? Or am I forced to buy a license of $79 ? Thanks! Kind regards, Yolande Jimenez”
Can I buy the licence with the link first for the test.yolandejimenez.com and when ready to move the same license to the http://www.yolandejimenez.com? In that way I can prepair the whole website first in test.yolandejimenez.com in the Dutch and English language. When I am ready, I like to move the test website + license to the new http://www.yolandejimenez.com. Is that possible?
I don’t like to buy a license twice!
That’s correct, you don’t need to buy anything twice. But if you want to register your site, you need to generate a key. And you generate one key for one domain (you need to provide the name of the domain). So if your domain name changes, you will need to generate a new key. But you don’t need to buy a new license to get a new key. You can remove your existing key, add generate a new one with your new domain name. Actually, WPML plugins will work without the key as well. The key is needed to get access to updates (new versions). I hope it helps.
I would ideally like to have just a couple of pages on my website available in German and Japanese. Is this possible? and how would you achieve it with WPML?
I’m aware there would be work involved in translating the content of each page, so we only really want to do this work on relevant pages if possible.
Yes, you can translate only some of your pages. You can try the Blog first, which includes the basic functionality that allows you to translate posts, pages, categories, tags, menus. If it turns out that you need to translate something else, you can upgrade to the CMS version for the difference in the purchase price.
Hi there,
A quick question.
I have inherited a number of WordPress sites which I would like to convert to a single multi-lingual site.
Because of language string issues these all use their own child themes and also the menu structure is slightly different across different translations.
Is it possible for each language to use it’s own child theme and also to hide / show different menu options depending on the language?
Many thanks,
Steve
Hi,
I have a website that uses a total of 3 languages. (created with the polylang plugin)
Will the Multilingual Blog package be sufficient for migration? (I use my betheme)
Regards
and you don’t need to rebuild other languages from scratch.
But the CMS package includes the String Translation and Translation Management plugins which are needed in most cases for multilingual websites.
You can do this:
1. But the Blog package
2. Try to migrate
3. If it turns out that on your site you have content to translate that requires using the String Translation and Translation Management plugins, upgrade to the CMS version for the difference in the purchase price.
i have an inquiry regarding WPML plugin, i have a page. in french and in english. i know with wpml there will be very esy to translate but i would like to put videos. on french page video should be in french and on english page video should be in english. it that possible with WPML.
Hello,
I assume you embed your videos inside your page’s or post’s content/body, correct? Is so, yes, it will work. All you need to do is to provide a different video for posts in different languages.
Currently, I have Woocommerce based shop in English.
I would like to add another language Norwegian.
If I chose you product, can I upload Woocommerce Norwegian file automatically or I need to do translations by myself?
Second question – is there a risk of slowing down the loading of my website after installing your plugin? What can be done to prevent it?
Hello,
Thank you for your interest in WPML.
I’m not sure what you mean by “Woocommerce Norwegian file”. By file, you mean a WooCommerce product? If so, you have both options: you can translate your products yourself or you can apply machine translations our ATE editor provides (which can be updated/corrected by you if needed).
You shouldn’t see any significant difference in terms of performance after using WPML but yes, we do have cases when WooCommerce sites are slower but that might’ve caused by WPML itself but by the combinations of your plugins used. For such cases, please open a ticket on our support forum and we will look into it to help you detect what exactly slows it down.
I need to be able to translate gravity forms into multiple languages BUT the translation has to be official from the Linguistics department in my company. I cannot accept a 3rd party or machine translation. Does your tool offer that flexibility? If so, which license do I need to purchase in order to install it on one site for Gravity Forms.
Hi there
Do you still have a lifetime licence option?
I need to add a multilingual tool to my plugin “arsenal” and heard WPML is a great option. I prefer to invest now and getting something premium rather than implementing the Polylang free and falling short.
If you still offer the lifetime option I would buy.
I am interested but there is no where that mentions currency? Is it live updated according to currency tables exchange rates? And how many currency could WPML support?
New customer here, purchased the “WPML Multilingual CMS” plan on April 27 but my order is still in “pending” status. Any help would be kindly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hello,
from what I can see in our system, the process of creating your WPML account hasn’t been completed. We are going to check if you were charged and send you the next steps to do. We’ll keep you posted.
We are planning to buy the WPML plugin. We have three websites (including staging) where we want to use this plugin.
So, we are planning to start off with the middle plan that offers three 3 websites.
So in the future, if we want to add more websites, can we do an upgrade from the middle plan, i.e, Multilingual CMS to Multilingual Agency by paying the difference: $70 (159-79)
Another question:
Can we change the websites that are included in a plan? Let’s say if there is domain shift in our staging website? Can we change that in the plugin settings?
can we do an upgrade from the middle plan, i.e, Multilingual CMS to Multilingual Agency by paying the difference: $70 (159-79)
Yes, you can.
Can we change the websites that are included in a plan? Let’s say if there is domain shift in our staging website? Can we change that in the plugin settings?
Yes, you can but you will need to do the change in two places: your WPML account and your WP site (Plugins -> Add new -> Commercial tab).
Hi My web master made a site for us 3 years ago and he has installed WPML back then he gave me the license number few days ago because we want to renew the site and we are working in a subdirectory in wordpress, but I don’t know to how get the WPML download file!!
please let me know
best regards,
Simone
Hello,
please on your WP site go to Plugins -> Add new -> Commercial tab and you will be able to update the plugins from there after entering the key. Another way to get the plugins it to log into your WPML account and go to the Downloads section.
I unfortunately I don’t have the commercial tab, i don’t know why, I just cannot understand why in this new wordpress installation I don’t see it. I do have the Wpml licence number but don’t have the commercial tab, can you send the intallation file?
Can you please check if you have WPML plugins installed on your site? In your WordPress go to plugins and look up any plugin with the WPML prefix. If you don’t, your site key won’t help much because you need to have the plugins. You would need to ask your developer to install the plugins or share the plugins with you.

Hello
One of my friends bought “Multilingual Agency + Life time license with one time fee” many years ago. ( It is not in your plans now, as I can see)
I asked him to buy for cheaper price from him for my website (15$) , without use his webdesign services.
He says I don’t know if WPML policies let me do it or not ?!
Is it legal to buy from him for me or not ?
I’ll be happy if the answer is yes.
Hello Mari,
The only place to buy a legit subscription of WPML is our site. You are welcome to use your friend’s subscription to use WPML on your site, if they are willing to, but this is not the same as buying a subscription. A subscription gives you independent access to updates and support from us.
I have my own Woocommerce webshop with a Porto theme running on it, the only thing is that i need to change the language to dutch (The netherlands) i’ve read some articels that WPML would be capable to translate the current language to dutch is this true? or are there more actions needed to let this work?
If it actualy can translate it to dutch, what is the best offer i can buy? (I am just using it for 1 website)
Is it possible to use this plugin on only certain parts of a wordpress site? For example, if I only want several pages to be translated and the others to stay in the original language with no translation options visible anywhere – is that possible?
Hi! I want to clarify that the 10,000 words of free “automatic translation” will translate the 10,000 words from the “main-language” to several languages.
ie. 10,000 words on my current page (in english) => Spanish, French & German etc. is within the 10,000-word limit included in the $79 annual subscription without having to pay extras?
Hello Dirk,
It’s 10,000 words in all, so 10,000 to one language; or 5,000 to one and 5,000 to another, for example
You have access to the free words with an active WPML subscription. It renews every month.
I would like to purchase WPML with my email ubai@hellokitchen.com.au but when I press “Place order”. A message occurs shown as” An account is already registered with your email address. Please login.Use the Lost password form if you do not know or remember your access credentials.”
I use lubai@hellokitchen.com.au to place order again but I can’t. And I tried to log in but I don’t have password yet.
I am a member of dutch buddhist nonprofit foundation. We are a registered charity. I was wondering if you offer different pricing for charities/nonprofit organizations?

Case one from your list is easy to set up using WPML.
Case two – this is more complicated because some extra setup on your server is required – https://wpml.org/tutorials/2016/04/use-wpml-different-domains-per-language/ but in your case you also have WordPress Multisite. Let me consult this case with our experts and I will get back to you.
To answer your other questions.
The Multilingual CMS package includes all our plugins (Translation Management and String Translation and more). In your WP Multisite you will see them all under Plugins -> Add new -> Commercial tab once your install the WPML’s main plugin.
For WP Multisite we have this page:
https://wpml.org/documentation/support/multisite-support/languages-in-domains-for-wordpress-multisite-mode/
A note from our supporter about your case #2:
“Do mind that different subsites from the multisite install behave separately (independently) one from the other and cannot be linked together – if the user decides that he wants that at a future date.

Thanks agnes,
Which package do we need to purchase for the case 1 setup? is it the Multilingual Blog
or Multilingual CMS?
For the multilingual cms, do we need to renew every year? how does it work?
You can but you don’t have too. Renewals are for updates and our support help.
Multilingual CMS

Do we still need to purchase 1 plugin for all? What is your suggestion?
Is it possible to also change the language format to follow this?
Hong Kong (English / Traditional Chinese)
http://www.example.com/en_hk/
http://www.example.com/zh_hk/
so its Language + _ + Locale format. Possible to help us point to which article is it or how to accomplish?
Yes, but you would need to use this option: https://wpml.org/documentation/support/editing-wpmls-languages-table/
By one plugin, you mean if you need only one registration key? You need one key per domain but registering is required only for updates. You can also delete your existing key and generate a new one with a new domain.

If there a new updates for the plugin, we will update the plugin in dev then once that is updated, we will pull the updates to staging and production. Will that work or we will face any issues?
Just to clear the setup:

As soon as you have access to WPML plugins, you can use them. You need to register your site only if you need to update the plugins.

Hello, no, the Blog version won’t suffice in this case, the migration plugin is included in the CMS package.
Hello again,
If I buy the blog package, then I have to rebuild other languages, right? (I can’t migrate my old translations)
Hello,
you can use the Blog version because it turns out that the migration plugin can be downloaded from here:
https://github.com/OnTheGoSystems/migrate-polylang-to-wpml
and you don’t need to rebuild other languages from scratch.
But the CMS package includes the String Translation and Translation Management plugins which are needed in most cases for multilingual websites.

2. Try to migrate
3. If it turns out that on your site you have content to translate that requires using the String Translation and Translation Management plugins, upgrade to the CMS version for the difference in the purchase price.

Writing the correct difference here: $80
I got the idea 🙂 Yes, our system will calculate the difference between those packages.
Hello,
thank you for your interest in WPML.
Yes, you can.
Hi!
I unfortunately I don’t have the commercial tab, i don’t know why, I just cannot understand why in this new wordpress installation I don’t see it. I do have the Wpml licence number but don’t have the commercial tab, can you send the intallation file?
thanks
Simone

Kind Regards
Mari
Hello Mari,
The only place to buy a legit subscription of WPML is our site. You are welcome to use your friend’s subscription to use WPML on your site, if they are willing to, but this is not the same as buying a subscription. A subscription gives you independent access to updates and support from us.
Kind regards,
Hi WPML,
I have my own Woocommerce webshop with a Porto theme running on it, the only thing is that i need to change the language to dutch (The netherlands) i’ve read some articels that WPML would be capable to translate the current language to dutch is this true? or are there more actions needed to let this work?
If it actualy can translate it to dutch, what is the best offer i can buy? (I am just using it for 1 website)
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
Boyd Huigsloot
Hello Boyd,
WPML can translate to any language. To translate with WooCommerce you will need the CMS version https://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/woocommerce-multilingual/
https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/#site-languages
Best,
Hello,
Is it possible to use this plugin on only certain parts of a wordpress site? For example, if I only want several pages to be translated and the others to stay in the original language with no translation options visible anywhere – is that possible?
Thanks!
Hello Dawey,
Yes you can choose what to translate and what not with WPML
Trying to compare my options, Thankyou!
Hello Dirk,
It’s 10,000 words in all, so 10,000 to one language; or 5,000 to one and 5,000 to another, for example
You have access to the free words with an active WPML subscription. It renews every month.
Best,
Hi there,
I would like to purchase WPML with my email ubai@hellokitchen.com.au but when I press “Place order”. A message occurs shown as” An account is already registered with your email address. Please login.Use the Lost password form if you do not know or remember your access credentials.”
I use lubai@hellokitchen.com.au to place order again but I can’t. And I tried to log in but I don’t have password yet.
Please help with this issue.
Thanks
Reeve

Hello! Do you need any help?
Hello,
I am a member of dutch buddhist nonprofit foundation. We are a registered charity. I was wondering if you offer different pricing for charities/nonprofit organizations?
Kind regards,
Wouter
Hello,
I’m sorry but we don’t have any special discounts for charities/nonprofit organizations but thanks for checking.
