Please help me choose between Blog and CMS version of your plugin. This seems like quite an important decision, yet there is very little info on your site about the differences.
I have a simple site, just 4 pages using Ventura theme. I want it to run two languages, each in their own subdomain:
en.mysite.com
ja.mysite.com
1) Can I get away with using the blog version?
2) If I get Blog version, can I ‘upgrade’ it later to the CMS version by paying the difference?
I’m not sure what your site will do and what needs translation. The biggest difference between the blog and CMS version, for you, will be the String Translation module. That module lets you translate texts that don’t belong to a specific post. This may contain theme strings, homepage texts (if they are not part of the page content), widgets, etc.
I would be very interested to know this too – I am planning a site for a client and will be wanting to use wp-estore alongside wpml – unless you can suggest an e-cart plugin that is proven to work with wpml?
We don’t know. Once in a while people ask us, but we have no experience with Artesteer generated themes. We’re going to approach Artesteer and check if they want to cooperate with us on that. It would help if you raised the question to them too. The most Artesteer clients asking about WPML, the better attention we will get.
I purchased blog version as I just want my blog to be translated in 2 other languages. Can you advice if i can use it to translate my blog or i need to buy CMS?
You should be able to translate blogs with WPML’s Blog version. It’s hard to tell what you’re trying to achieve without looking at your site. Since you’re a paying client, you can get more detailed help in our technical forum. I suggest that you visit our forum, provide a link to your site and explain what you’re trying to do. Our support folks will be able to help you much better.
I use vantage theme which has a section called listings. Basically its the same as pages setup but what i need is a tool that can translate categories & tags in a smart way.. I use another pgin now but it makes a new page for each language i add.. same it does for categories and tags… Thats not the way it should work as you will get tons of pages/categories & tags..
I really like to know if WPML can do translation for those areas…..before i purchase it!!!
It’s a bit difficult for me to fully visualize your setup and advice how to use WPML to translate the site, with the Vantage theme correctly. It really depends on how it’s coded. We would be very happy to work with the theme developer and review this together. Would you like to refer them here? http://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/go-global-program/
I went to the link you put in the reply. What info do you want me to put.
I will put oofcourse my name, but do you want the website of the developers of the theme?
I’m sorry for the misunderstanding. The theme authors need to go there. This section is intended for theme and plugin developers. It will put them in touch with our developers, so that we can review compatibility status together and make any required adjustments. Do you want to refer the theme developers to that page?
I have sent mails several times and havn’t heared ever since. I think it will not be to difficult to answer if at least you have contact with the developers i send you so i know if your plugin will contribute going live soon or that i have to find others ways to get the job done…. Not answering is normally i pretty good measurement what to expect from a company.. Until now not really hopeful….
Sorry, but I’m not familiar with that theme. Generally speaking, we’re very happy to work with theme developers and check compatibility status with them. If you’re a ‘core’ client, would you like to invite the theme author to our ‘Go Global’ program?
The ‘core’ theme author will need to visit that page and subscribe. We’ll take it from there and work together to ensure that the theme and WPML are compatible.
I’m sorry but we haven’t tested WPML with that theme. We’re trying to get more interest from the developers in ElegantThemes to work on compatibility with WPML. If you’re their client, can you mention to them that we’re interested and waiting for them to review how WPML and their themes work together?
We have completed adding WPML support to GeoPlaces. Right now, it’s waiting for Templatic team to integrate into their theme and release a new version. You can remind them that you’re waiting for this too. The more people remind them, the faster it will happen.
we are using cudazi-luxury theme http://themeforest.net/item/luxury-wordpress-template/83220 . We would now like to translate the site into 4 additional translations – one of which is Hebrew – does this plugin correct the RTL problem? Will the whole theme be changed in the Hebrew section to RTL?
Hi,
first I took the multiblog version and later bought the upgrade for CMS. Is there some kind of installation to do to access to the upgraded application ?
Vincent
Now that you have upgraded, the rest of WPML’s modules are available to you. You will see ‘download’ buttons on all of the components in your Downloads section. Please see this page for a description of the different addon modules: http://wpml.org/documentation/wpml-core-and-add-on-plugins/
The documentation is not available until after the purchase, so I might be asking something that is already outlined somewhere. Here is my question:
Let’s say that I have a website with english and spanish version. And lets say that I publish a post in english, and then it will take several days for a translator to translate that post into spanish. What is the status of the english post on the spanish vs of the website? Will it be in an unpublished state until it translated and approved or will it appear in english on the spanish version of the site?
Hello,
I am using a theme Aplex that I have purchased on Theme Forest.
I have used qTranslate before, but it does not work with this theme. I do not see the theme in the list of compatible themes.
Is there a way for me to find out if the theme is compatible with the plugin before I purchase it?
Hello, Could you please tell me if this plugin works with the sky template from elegant themes? I`ve red a lot of it online but couldnt find the right answers. Also most answers are from 2011 and maybe there is a lot changed in the mean time.. (updates) thanks in advanced. p.s. If this doesnt work / isn`t supported, do you know a template who looks most likely like the sky theme from another vendor which is supported?
I’m not sure about this theme. We’ve started working with ElegantThemes about compatibility and it’s going pretty slow. If you can remind them about it, I’m sure that it will help to speed things up.
Hi,
just discovered your plugin and website, to go sure that it works like I think please let me know this answers:
I plan a multilanguage website based on http://www.geotheme.com/.
I have 4 country domains for my website .com .de .es .ru and want to redirect the user based on their browser language to the language english, german, spain and russian. Can I realize this with your plugin and/or whatelse is necessary?
We’re contacted Catalyst team and are interested in working with them on WPML compatibility. We’re waiting for them to get back to us. If you contact them too and ask for their cooperation, it might help speed things up a bit.
Hi 2 questions:
1. Is WPML finally compatible with Pagelines? I’ve read various Q&A’s on your site about that; I understand that basically yes but maybe there are still issues?
2. Are the menus and sidebars translations (including drop-down menus to choose language) available with the WPML blog version?
thanks
1. We’ve tested WPML with Pagelines a few months ago. There were several issues, which we handled and now WPML and Pagelines should be fully compatible.
2. The blog version includes menu translation. For translating widgets, you’ll need the String Translation module, which is part of the full CMS package.
WPML can automatically detect which country or IP user enters the site and then change the language accordingly?
Case of IP, may I able to insert the range of IPs ?
I’m looking for this kind of option to my site.
WPML includes browser language detection. This checks the language settings sent from the browser. Often this is more reliable and a lot more practical than IP-based language detection. A person living in the US, will surely have a US IP address, but may be a native Italian speaker, so his browser can be set to Italian.
True, but the site should display relevant information by country and less by language.
The site display content and list of medical clinic based on visitor country
Hi Amir,
Well just in general.
It is for a client of me.
So to be clear: It translates texts automatically (english to dutch) and if i want perfect translation i can pay for professional translators.
Also: Once translated automatically, i can alter text myself. Right?
WPML does not translate any texts. It’s a tool that lets you (or your client) translate himself. There are other plugins, which operate much differently from WPML, which provide machine translation. These plugins get translations from Google and show them on your site.
We don’t do any of this, per Google’s instructions. Google strictly prohibits using their machine translation as your own texts. They recommend that if you want to show machine translation, you use the online (live) translation from them.
1. If you use the default UTF-8 character set, you’ll be able to write fine with Taiwanese characters.
2. We’re in the process of testing things with ElegantThemes. They seem to be very busy, so we’re not getting a lot of priority. If you can remind them about compatibility with WPML, I’m sure that it will help speed things up.
We are currently evaluating the WPML plug-in for translating our online help site. In a CMS comparison I read recently, WordPress has the following limitations for multilingual content management. Does the plug-in solve any of these problems?
No multi-site deployment
Limited web-based translation management
No template language
No content staging or reuse
No workflow engine
I’m not really sure what you mean by that list. Let me try my best to answer:
– WPML runs fine on single-site and multi-site installs. You can activate it per site or as a network plugin.
– WPML has a comprehensive translation management module – http://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/using-the-translation-editor/
– What template language are you looking for? What are you trying to do with it?
– I’m not sure what your goals are for content staging. If you can tell what you’re trying to do, I’ll see if there’s a way to do it with WPML.
– What sort of workflow are you looking for?

If you buy the basic Blog version, you can always upgrade later to the full CMS version. You’ll pay the difference in price.
Hey
Would WPML work with:
http://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/
WP-estore
WP-emember
?
We haven’t worked with the authors of these themes, so I can’t tell for sure. If you’re using these, would you like to invite the author to check compatibility together with us? Send them here:
http://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/go-global-program/
I would be very interested to know this too – I am planning a site for a client and will be wanting to use wp-estore alongside wpml – unless you can suggest an e-cart plugin that is proven to work with wpml?
We’re very happy with the cooperation with WooCommerce and MarketPress plugins. Things are also working fine with JigoShop.
hello, I habe a short question.
Does wpml Support Artesteer Themse?

Hello,
Would WPML work with “Core” template from themeforest ?
Thanks
Sorry, but I’m not familiar with that theme. Generally speaking, we’re very happy to work with theme developers and check compatibility status with them. If you’re a ‘core’ client, would you like to invite the theme author to our ‘Go Global’ program?

Hi –
We use MegaMenu plugin and want to be sure WPML will be compatible.
Thanks
Chris
Sorry, but I don’t know that plugin. Where is it coming from?
I have an elegantthemes.com theme (“The Source” is the name of the theme)…. will WPML be compatible with my theme?… Thank you.

Hi,
i am using templatic GeoPlaces v.4 WordPress theme for runing tourist web portal for Rovinj city in Croatia…..multilingual site is must……
so my question is : can we use WPML with templatic GeoPlaces v4 theme?
thnx
We have completed adding WPML support to GeoPlaces. Right now, it’s waiting for Templatic team to integrate into their theme and release a new version. You can remind them that you’re waiting for this too. The more people remind them, the faster it will happen.

RTL is a theme issue. Many themes correctly support RTL display, but many do not. We’ve written here how we added Hebrew to wpml.org:
http://wpml.org/2011/12/adding-rtl-support-for-theme/
We haven’t tested WPML with that theme. As their client, you can refer the THEME AUTHORS to our Go Global program:
http://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/go-global-program/
We’ll be happy to work together to ensure compatibility between WPML and their themes.

All the documentation for WPML is available here on our website. The support forum is open to paying clients only.
While you’re translating posts, you can choose to have the English posts appear in the Spanish blog or have nothing appear for untranslated content.
Hi, I’m wondering if WPML allows you to hide pages that aren’t translated so that they won’t show up the site menu?
Yes. This is the default way WPML works. It will only show translated content.
hello
does WPML have a language drop-down select box? can it translate menu?
thanks
Yes. WPML creates a language switcher. You can display it as a widget, or add to the theme using an API call. WPML translates WordPress menus.

Can you direct the theme author to our ‘Go Global’ program?
http://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/go-global-program/
Our developers will work with the theme author and check for any compatibility issues. We are pretty efficient at this work.

WPML can display different content in different domains. Have a look here for how to do this:
http://wpml.org/faq/server-setting-for-languages-in-different-domains/
WPML also includes language detection, which will redirect visitors to their language based on browser settings.
I’m not sure about that theme. The best would be for the THEME AUTHOR to work on it together with us. If you can refer the theme author to our ‘Go Global’ program, we’ll review compatibility together:
http://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/go-global-program/
Do you know whether wpml is compatible with the Catalyst/Dynamik theme?

hello
can the Multilingual Blog $29 (USD) version translate theme and plugin, i mean the mo and po files are provided? can’t slow down the site?
thanks
The Blog version, costing $29, will correctly set the locale, so that the theme and plugins can load their respective .mo files.
Hi Amir,
I have two questions :
1) Does WPML supports taiwanese caracters ?
2) Does WPML works with elegant themes ? Especially Glow, Glider and Chameleon ?
